Zavala, Witness to Secrets - A Serious D2 Short Story

Zavala, Witness to Secrets – A Serious D2 Short Story
Change: to shift; to move from one thing to another either in order to survive, or to better apply oneself to the present situation. -Unknown
First it was the Drifter, a rogue seeking solace within the Tower. Then it was Crow, a redeemed killer and prince. Now, it’s a Hive Guardian named Faeradûn. “And he holds the secret to defeating Savathûn?” Heath nods stiffly. “And why hasn’t he told you?” “He insisted on seeing you first. I don’t know why.” “And he’s here, outside my office…right now?” “Yes sir.” I pause, my eye drifting to the papers on my desk, papers that would be rendered meaningless if this new Guardian was telling the truth. He would change many things. “Send him in.” Heath bows respectfully and exist the room. A few moments later, Faeradûn, dressed in simple brown robes enters gracefully and stands in front of my desk, hands clasped behind his back. “Good evening, Commander.” “Good evening,” I reply with some surprise. I did not expect him to be polite. I’m not sure what I expected at all. “Heath tells me you contain some great secret. Is it true?” “Is it true that the Nine are essentially behind the events of Europa?” Faeradûn cocks his head to one side. “I will let you be the judge of that, Commander. I have wandered in my time as a Wizard, from ruler to ruler, ship to ship, army to army. First Oryx, then Xivu Arath, then the Witch Queen.” He shivers. “I will not speak her name. But I have found refuge, and within that refuge, secrets. It is these secrets that brings me before you.” “Heath has made me aware of your past, Faeradûn.” “Then you know that even now she is searching for me. Watching through the eyes of those around us. I am confident that even now she sees me.” I sit straighter and reach for my pistol. “Do we have you to thank for that?” “I am no spy, Commander.” I chuckle slightly. “You wouldn’t believe how many times that has been said to me.” “I do. I see it in your mind.” “For a new Guardian, you are awfully presumptuous. You’ll find that around here presumption is cause for surveillance.” “Then I will be wary. I am ready to give you the information, Commander.” “Is this conversation a test, Faeradûn?” The former Wizard removes his helmet and smiles; not unkindly, but not friendly either. “Every conversation is a test. Whether you like it or not.” He held his palm up in front of him, and the symbol of Savathûn blazed in green fire. He spoke, and my eyes were opened. -From one Guardian to Another
