Ninja I want clarification on Bans

Hi Game Slayer here, So I’m unusually off grid, And I like to see what happens here time to time. But, I’m quite bothered on a little subject on names. Specifically “Banned names” and how easy it is to get banned by mention said name. And no, I am not talking about specific people so I shouldn’t be violating this rule, but wanting to understand it. So I’ll use examples. Say we have two users, we’ll keep this simple. “Table” And “Chair” And one day Chair got banned for violating CoC. But we still use the term Chair in terms with other posts. Like Post of Table vs Chair: which is best to sit on? Or About Chair Or How to build a Chair And the given posts’ Author get banned. Why? Was it because of name and shame like with hackers in the Destiny forums? Was it possibly now on a list of banned words that no one is allowed to say? And if so, anyone who says the word they get the hammer? Wouldn’t that create more of a pain if this happen with Chair? Would I not be allow or say their name, even if I didn’t know they got banned. Would I be banned for using Chair in a sentence? If feel we should be put in the loop with this. Not with who and why someone got banned. But how little rules get changed from result of a ban. So users don’t get banned from mentioning a name because they were not informed of this change. Like I don’t know who to talk to about this. And your frequency ask questions will not cut it. I want to hear it from you or someone above you. I want to understand so we can all understand. If that’s not to hard to ask for. Thank you for your time, Game Slayer

  • The Ninjas work at the discretion of Bungie, and my team implemented this banned word system to remove certain discussions and toxicity from our forums. The Ninjas can't comment on any thread or message involving the system because they don't know anything about it. We won't be releasing these words to the public, so I encourage everyone to be mindful of the words they use and think if it's appropriate for our website or not. As for your example, if the banned user is named "chair," and then a thread is created about them specifically, the Ninjas have been told to remove those threads since it's not appropriate to create threads about other players. Context is the king, of course, so the way the word is used is situational. As an example, if "chair" got banned, but then someone else created a thread shortly thereafter saying that, "chairs are bad," I'd be inclined to remove the thread since the context appears to be talking about the player.
