"Zavala — A waste of time, as always. I won't confiscate the Red Death engrams, I won't roll back the SUROS Crucible firmware to its “original” (preposterously inflated) state. And I won't conduct any more “forensic inquiries” like this!" - From the MIDA Multi-Tool's Lore Tab in D2.
Red Death as its own, independent weapon is still 100% canon within Destiny's universe and wasn't retconned by the introduction of Crimson in D2. So this begs the question: when, if ever, will Red Death return, especially if engrams of it are still out in the wild? Perhaps Crimson is just a diet sister-weapon to Red Death, akin to The First Curse and The Last Word? There is also the issue of the Red Spectres, which were the prototypes of Red Death.
I think an exotic quest like Presage (I'm not saying every exotic in the game will receive the level of detail and design that Dead Man's Tale received, but it would be amazing if it did) would make for an incredible return for this iconic exotic. My only concern is how Bungie would differentiate Crimson and Red Death's exotic perks since the two are nearly identical in function.

We already got the Crimson so I doubt we’ll get it.

Edited by Emurinus: 4/15/2021 12:11:56 PMNot when, if. Crimson is effectively the successor to Red Death much like how Whisper is to Black Hammer/Spindle and Riskrunner to Zhallo. If we brought back Red Death then it'd have to be reworked, perhaps overhauled entirely, or else it would become redundant.
-
If it returns, it won't be the original version. Crimson already exists.
-
It's perks would have to change, it's identical to crimson as of now. I think health steal and overload rounds could be cool, but hear me out on this one: It's other perk extends the duration of overload rounds (for PvE) and increased the revive timer on defeated opponents (for PvP) In the lore, the red death made it more taxing for ghosts to rez their guardians
-
It sucks. It used to be the best pulse in destiny. After they nerfed it , it became the worst.
-
It has returned. It’s called crimson. I think crimson is actually better since it auto reloads on headshot kills
-
It wont. We already have Crimson.
-
Isn’t Crimson very similar to red death in terms perks?
-
Edited by Obscure Meme: 4/14/2021 3:41:03 PMThe sights on that thing were one of my favourite parts about it - I believe some guns like Stars in Shadow and Ye olde’ broadsword still have them. I can’t remember the name of it though.
-
When d3 drops, but this time its going to be a 3 round burst smg.
-
Crimson :'(
-
When me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.
-
Never. Crimson is the same except it's a hand cannon instead of a pulse rifle. I prefer Red Death from D1 but that's like that. Red Death has 0 chance to come back since Crimson exist.
-
I'm still sitting here waiting for the exotic version of Khvostov and No Land Beyond to return
-
"Mom, can we have Red Death?" "We have Red Death at home." Red Death at home:
Bootleg Hand Rifl- I mean Crimson...
-
People seem to forget reworks are a thing. If I had to bet any money (and I’m the biggest cheapskate on the planet) I’d say every exotic weapon and armor piece will return. Some reworked and some not. Just look at hawkmoon. The iMpOsSiBlE became possible.
-
We had 3 Thunderlords of each light element once, can we not use "too similar" as an excuse not for it.
-
With Crimson in the game probably never sorry. I'd rather have red death over Crimson but alas bungie really likes hand cannons.
-
My all time favorite pvp gun, because it’s the gun I used in may 2015 to go flawless the first ever weekend of trials.
-
I i had to choose a single exotic from D1 to return, that would be Red Death for sure. I my would be so cool if it could return and be associated with a legendary shotgun with pikes.
-
I feel like it really says something about the range of handcannons it we're saying that there wouldn't be enough difference between crimson and red. I see little too no reason why we shouldn't have both, one built for range in red and one built for mid to short range in crimson. They could potentially hand each a catalyst that auto reloads party y of the magazine when killing enemies with specific ranges. Ex: when killing an enemy within 20 meters partially reloads crimson, when killing an enemy outside of 20 meters partially reloads red.
-
if they did bring it back they should change the perks from its original to differentiate it from crimson. maybe something like: dealing damage to an enemy returns a small portion of health to you, the further away an enemy is the more health is returned. reloading while critically wounded grants bonus weapon damage for the entire mag.

I'd like OG Red death. It used to be a member of the slowest rate of fire. Unflinching and high cal rounds.
-
Red death and crimson are both so different, sure they have the same exotic perk but the way they handled and even their ttk are completely different. Red death was a slow fire pulse back in D1 so it was able to 2 burst, crimson needs 3 burst to get kills. Red death had unflinching which meant the gun negated any form of flinch or at least reduced it like crazy, crimson takes in a whole ton of flinch which is one of the reasons it sucks. The only thing crimson has over red death is being able to move faster when aiming down sights which is still garbage considering ttk is more important than movement. I feel red death needs to come back, if players or bungie are so anal about crimson having the same exotic perk then crimson should simply be overhauled to something else.
-
I really hope the Red Death comes back and replaces Crimson or something like that. It makes no sense to take a fan favorite exotic and turn it into a lame off-brand version of itself It's like if they had brought back Hawkmoon in the form of a sidearm 🤢🤢🤢
