Is this an acceptable network connection?

I got a "persistently unstable network connection" warning in game a few days ago. I have 1000Mb Down / 100Mb up cable Internet, and am using a LAN cable to my PS5, and using a Netgear XR500 gaming router which has anti-bufferbloat. When I sit in the tower and watch my connection bar in the roster, it goes up and down in quality in real time, and when I look in the geo view in the router admin console, I see people from all over the world in my instance (I'm in Ireland). I only have this problem on PS5, not on PC, but I understand the network architecture is different with Steam, it is through a VPN or something like that. After putting a post on a community support site for my ISP, I did a broadband test (URL is in the post). Based on some feedback I got, there is upstream network congestion during the busy times of day, as everyone is working from home at the moment. If I am banned for this connection, then Bungie may as well ban anyone in Ireland or any other non-US country that is on a PS5, as I have the best possible Internet that you can get in Ireland, and am using a dedicated gaming router with QoS and anti buffer bloat.

  • Part of the issue is on Sony and part of the issue is on Bungie. Your on a PS5, while they say that your able to play intergeneration the fact is your not. It is trying to match you with others playing on a PS5. Given the reports of how difficult that is you can understand why you getting matched with people all over the world an getting warnings. Your connection isn't gonna matter. It's something on Sony/Bungie side an until they figure it out and fix it anytime you do matchmade activities you run the risk of being banned. It's unfortunate but something isn't working properly within the coding of the console/game that allows you to play with just anyone while doing any matchmade activity.

During peak hours, the ping goes through the roof, which means high jitter (which impacts Destiny 2 severely). That leads me to believe that your ISP doesn't have a backbone strong enough to support all the connection loads efficiently (they maybe oversold their connections?).

      • You are still potentially at risk unfortunately. Im based in Dublin and have a very similar set up to you and recently received a restriction of my own - I’m on Ps5 too. My connection stats wouldn’t be considered poor by any means: Ping - 15ms Jitter - 2.9ms Zero packet loss 400/20 upload download Wired connection What’s worse is that it is genuinely difficult to raise a restriction with Bungie - they have absolutely no customer support. Hopefully the low number of Ps5 players doesn’t force you into lobbies with people in especially far away countries because Bungie will restrict you if you cannot maintain a stable connection with someone living in rural Australia.

        • To better enable those who can help you would you mind providing the following. Please be 100% honest with your answers. Who is your ISP? Wi-Fi or wire? Laptop or desktop, Console? What are your ups and down speeds? Test here Are you using a hotspot connection? What is your ping? What is your packet loss? How many people use your connection? How many items are connected like computers, consoles, tablets, phones, TVs, and household appliances, etc?
