Destiny 2

Discuss all things Destiny 2.

I understand the idea that Sunsetting as a concept is plausible. I think more need to understand that such a concept is impossible to implement into Destiny with success. ESPECIALLY in this current state.

It falls down to an issue of principle. What good is more time or selective retiring when in the context of Destiny it is ultimately just an invalidation of investment (time and resource) on gear? The benefits are basically nonexistent, especially with the "idea" of a rotating meta being a complete farce. It's always the same top things in the sandbox, just different names on the guns. Variety is only reduced. The thought process was to pull out the OP top dogs such that those that hug only the best of the best (and maybe also complain about nothing being worth getting cause it isn't better) finally change gear. Now you rig the player base to be within the 20% of the original viable gear pool. Being meta aligned stopped being a choice. Stopping Power Creep was just an outright lie and there was no logical way to use sunsetting as a counter to power creep. If you are sunsetting to prevent power creep, you cannot then go and make outright better and better weapons (like more Recluse level "shit" as the one post brought up), cause that's power creep. You also cannot continue to make variable sidegrades or worse weapons (the present) because you then make the whole operation completely pointless. It even makes the game feel less alive. The power system (while obviously an arbitrary game mechanic for the sake of "game") is seemingly supposed to feel like an actual "thing" in cannon (such with power enabled PvP), but then Crow can waltz up and save Osiris's sunsetted Pulse Rifle with a sunset Sword, Drifter can run about Europa with Trust no problem. I doubt Zavala is ever letting go of Origin Story, let alone getting himself is own gun. Ikora probably never dropping whatever that shotgun is and picking up Invective again (if it is even out there still). Saint would die trying to go ham with his custom arsenal come next season. All of these people's armor and clothing matter none in their strength. Maybe even Crota's Daughter would be "stronger" than him. I know this may seem nitpicky, but if the idea is supposed to be that we are "growing", cycling gear as dictated by a calendar isn't it and that mechanic needs to stay strictly arbitrary. (Why even have the power grind anymore is a whole other subject). I honestly feel like there's literally a hole to any reason sunsetting should be applied to Destiny and some problems are really up to the "troubled" players to fix for themselves, not Bungie dragging everyone else by the neck with them. This failed for a reason 6 years ago, and it wasn't even as bad. How could this ever have a better outcome?
