Bungie needs an entire season for improving core playlists

Destiny 2 is currently going through a huge content problem where seasonal and drip fed content are becoming a chore to do and don’t feel remotely sustainable for long periods of time. Most new activities now are hilariously easy or just public events unlike the 6 man activities like the sundial and vex offensive that felt interesting and fun. I feel like now we really need a revamp to current core activities to help with this game’s sustainability because they have felt increasingly stale since the launch of shadowkeep. Here is what I propose: Strikes: not only did the removal of a majority of good strikes make this playlist feel even more repetitive than before but there is literally no reason to play. Each strike should have a boss related loot drop that can be farmed in a simple way. I have no idea why this was removed from d1 to d2 as it made the game effectively better to get these cool and interesting drops. Strike scoring should return with a new and improved bounty system that works with the team along with fun and more extensive modifiers which will actually give a reason for players to not speedrun the currently boring playlist. We want to have fun in strikes, but now we can only farm bounties. I know adept weapons are coming but that’s for gms only, we need something for the casual playlist. Crucible: crucible has literally been unchanged since shadow keeps and needs more to make it feel fun again rather than another chore. Firstly, control does not work as a new light playlist. It requires map and game knowledge as well as the ability to work as a team, this will never apply to players trying to play the game first time. This is why clash should replace it as the main 6v6 gamemode. Secondly, Competitive needs to lose survival and be replaced with 3v3 skirmish as survival is a very flawed gamemode for both solo players and groups. Life advantage encourages extreme passive play which makes the games feel tedious and boring because you will get a kill and hide for the next few minutes. The life system is also not tied to players so if you are playing with someone who doesn’t have much care for dying, lives will be gone before you die yourself. Also 4 rounds is too much to get to, leading into 30 minute games. Finally, maps and gamemode variety is such an important catalyst for crucible success. We look forward to new and interesting maps to play on in crucible as well as the interesting gamemodes like rift that keep the crucible fresh. We have lacked this for 2 years now and needs some change. We need at least 1 or 2 NEW maps or maybe 2 or 3 reintroduced maps from d1 because the same tiny maps are getting really stale for the community. Rift should return as a core playlist along with clash, comp and elim to give a nice fun party option for players wanting to have fun with friends. Gambit: yeah this has been a problem since release to be honest. I personally have no idea how to balance this gamemode without heavily restricting heavy drops and spawns. But the weapons we have access to now just makes this mode a joke and personally I don’t know how to fix it. Hopefully people have read all of what I mentioned here as I would love to reintroduce the REAL replay ability this game has lost over the years because personally, I don’t think the seasonal content alone will work out.

      • Theosyion You make some valid points and I agree that ever verse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

      • How about the grind to level up, it's been pretty much the exact same grind for awhile and it's boring as -blam!-. Do your bounties, your playlists, etc. How about something new.

          • Personally, I think the pvp side of Gambit has been handled better than before (not perfect of course), but the PvE side of it is still horrible. Ads are still generally tanky to primary fire (blockers are fine) and thus have more reliance on special, the primeval still basically sits in one defined spot all game, and it is still easy to melt them because they have nothing to stop you from stacking buffs/debuffs on them as well as raw damage.

            • I agree completely. I’ve had times in the past few days when I’ll just sit there and stare at the director because I have no motivation to do anything. Crucible just makes me mad because some of the most top-tier options are class-specific or just unobtainable (*cough *cough Felwinters *cough *cough). Strikes are just mind-numbing. There’s no fun factor at all. It’s just running through to get to the boss so I might be able to get a xenoclast that’s half decent. I havent had fun in gambit since black armory. The BL changes have made it tolerable, but not a playlist I would stay in after I get the pinnacle. I’m prob gonna take a break for a while because it feels like there’s no reason to play currently.

Still don't understand how this could have happened, I'm practically gasping from such a shocking conclusion.

            • I think they have very Limited manpower working on this game at The moment. They are trying to fit already made content which was originally meant to Be D3. Every season is same, More or less. Dont expect anything big in The future of D2.

            • Took them 3 months to bring back 1 D1 PvP map, and a year to create 1 new strike, or 2 years to make 2, and you want a whole raft of maps in 1 season LOLOLOLOL Game needs 8-10 new strikes, 10-12 PvP mas, and 3-4 gambit maps, that would take them 3 years to make, not 3 months. I mean the can't even make 10-12 new guns ffs

                This is going to a bit vague but I did see a YouTube video where it was mentioned bungie are rehiring the dude was behind season of opulence or at the very least he had alot of input into it. So fingers crossed 🤞

                  • I gave up on Bungie because the original creators arent there no more. Every content is always the same nothing new. Reuse enemies, reskin gears, campaign reuses the same locations. Its lost cause for me

I got a [armory]Trichromatica[/armory] ghost the other day from the Inverted Spire nightfall that was clearly a reference to the boss. I'm not sure if that's a one-off thing or if something similar exists for the other strikes, but would this be a matter of making it more accessible to farm (so you don't have to wait for the nightfall to get a chance at getting it) or are the current rewards not interesting to farm for (e.g. not enough weapons / armor)? And therefore even more teamwork? I feel like control at least provides players with some amount of direction and structure by funneling them to key parts of the map. Sure, they won't know things like "on Distant Shore you should prefer controlling control points C and B over control points A and B or A and C", but they can contribute by at least keeping opposing players off of control points and pick up the overarching knowledge of the map as they go. Conversely, and this might just be due to my own inexperience with Clash over the years, but I feel like I'd be much harder pressed to communicate a general strategy for Clash on these maps to a new player outside of "I dunno, roam around and kill things I guess." I guess I'd be interested to hear what sort of experiences with Control lead you to believe that Clash would perform better.
