Why am I getting matchmade against Flawless players in Trials?

I'm not good, played my first games of Trials in D2 yesterday. My teammates were also playing for the first time. We get consistently put against extremely tryhard sweats who one-shot us in mere seconds after the round starting and t-bag so excessively you'd think their controller might break. Why? This isn't fun for us, and it's not really fun for them either. [b]EDIT:[/b] I'm not complaining that this activity is hard - I'm not stupid. I take issue with the lobbies I get being ridiculously unbalanced. When I say ”I’m not good”, I’m comparing myself to my opponents whose banners have 500 flawless runs while I’m just getting into Trials. Telling me to ”git gud” or ”stop playing you don’t deserve Trials” isn’t helpful and I’m really sorry for you. I’m not a new player in any way shape or form, I’m not going in with random gear expecting to go flawless on first try. Sometimes I end up playing against people with 2500+ elo, sometimes I get a person running two primaries. Overall, the quality of matches has gone way up. Haven't seen a single cheater either. Reward structure is, well, rewarding, and encourages playing after going flawless. Very happy with the mode. [b]EDIT 4:[/b] The 3rd weekend took 7 hours of nonstop grind to go flawless. Combination of labs and the map being Wormhaven definetly encourages camping and toxicity. Oh, and starting to see cheaters again! There's the gamemode I know! The matchmaking also felt awful with little care of matching tickets or skill, making for very unbalanced and ridiculous lobbies. I'm hoping these experiments will lead to healthy choises on Bungie's part. [b]EDIT 5:[/b] Since this post still seems to resonate with people, I thought I'd recap the current state of Trials. The problem with this gamemode is that it is hostile in it's design and pushes people away. While I've improved enough to have a positive Trials KD and have sherpa'd a few friends to the lighthouse, the mode itself has gone back to it's miserable state. The games are never balanced. Either my team is put against people on a 15 loss streak, just trying to get 7 wins in total so they can stop playing, or we match people on a 20+ winstreak and they reset after wins, tbag after every kill and send very pleasant and lovely messages for encouragement. No wonder this gamemode is bleeding players.

  • It’s like you don’t understand that there are different types of people playing. Some days you get all sweats out of dumb luck, some days you get a lot of cheaters. You’re complaining about the randomness in a game that children play and then crying when they act like children and tbag you. It’s much better than sbbm.

      I agree, i tried to play trials in the last 2 weeks and every match i play against a flawless team, now the thing is: my allies ARE NOT flawless,witch makes matches incredibly hard to win against.

        • Looks like most of my issues were addresses in yesterday’s stream and blog post! Better matchmaking as win trading is outlawed, matchmaking in general to fill population, and drop rework to stop people from farming by resetting their ticket. Like I said in the OP, I’m not expecting trials to be easy - but these changes add up to a less toxic, much healthier state for the gamemode <3

            I agree. I was just playing Trials last night with my friends and LITERALLY every other match we would get put up against a flawless team. It's just ridiculous. They have already proven they are they best of the best in the Destiny PvP community, so why does someone like myself who is only decent at Destiny PvP get constantly matched up against flawless players? It's not fun in any way shape or form. Yeah lets just go get my **** pushed in for the next 45 minutes to an hour for a shitty gun like the Rocket launcher that LITERALLY drops with the same rolls and stats as the seasonal rocket launcher(Code Duello). Thats not fun. Put Flawless players in their own pool. I have come up against enough teams that have gone flawless that they can have their own trials pool and they will be fine. Matchmaking will not be slow, I don't think flawless players realize just how much of a detriment/plague they are to the game for casual or even semi-serious players, I also think they dont realize just how many of them there are. Im not asking for a handout, im asking for a chance at winning. because as it stands right now, i CANNOT get more than 1 win without getting put up against a flawless team who utterly destroys me and makes me hate the game.

            • The only current incentive for any player outside of tryhards is to literally stave off the sunset level of 1 weapon for 1 season. Not really much of a draw. So you're left playing against the people.who think stomping in crucible gives their lives meaning. Enjoy.

            • Bacause those are the only players left playing that mode. For regulair ore just above it's just not posible to go flawless anymore so after being stomped out 10 times in a row people just stop playing the game mode. It should be like D1, put flawless players in a separate pool. That would bring trials back to life.

              • It’s because the trials player base is so low, they should’ve thrown trials in the content vault hardly anyone would’ve missed it instead of deleting 5 raids lmao

                The problem with Trials right now is that Bungie has done a HORRIBLE job of tending to the flock. What I mean is, there is very little incentive for even a group of above average crucible players to partake in trials. For instance, my group and I tried over the weekend and had to sweat our balls off just to get to five wins. What was our reward? - Basically nothing. No pinnacle drop, no weapon I plan on ever using, no armor piece I'll ever actually use. As such, there's a good chance that an above average group like me doesn't even try next week. What you're left with is ONLY the super sweaty try hards. Making it even more difficult and less enjoyable to play trials. In order to revive trials to be more accessible and fun for the general population, Bungie needs to: -Revert matchmaking to the original Trials matchmaking in D1. e.g. you are randomly matchmade, regardless of the amount of wins on your ticket (I actually don't know for sure if this is still the way they are doing it) -Provide at least one bounty that is grind-able for Pinnacle drops. e.g. 100 precision kills by your fireteam rewards a pinnacle drop. -Provide pinnacle drops at 3 and 5 wins -Change the flawless requirement altogether. If you get to 7 wins, regardless if you have a loss, you get the "flawless" drop. Keep the flawless requirement for the title only. My group and I regularly went flawless in D1. We really don't even try in D2. I feel like we are representative of a huge amount of players out there. Bungie should be disappointed by that, and be doing something to correct it. Stop actively trying to make trials an exclusive sweat fest. Make trials fun again.

                    Cause it is still feasible for Flawless try hards to keep farming cards with low wins after they went flawless already for the week. They can farm people struggling to get a couple wins and Bungie won't address this by more realistic reward systems. If you want tokens, best is to keep doing 1, 2, 3 wins and resetting your card. Why get to 5, 6, or 7 wins and go against other try hards and risk losing. Losing isn't the best way to get tokens, so they have no motives to get far on a card. Also the matchmaking is worthless. I seen friends with all negative K.D.s go into Trials and somehow match up against people with like 2.2, 2.9, and a 4.0 kd, and somehow the game thought to stick them with 0.9 k.d.s or lower on their team against this.

                  • Brother I've been playing every weekend since sotw, I've got over 9000 kills in trials , 690 wins and only 4 flawless tickets (3 from first season and 1 from last season ) I'm a crucible person and I can't go flawless . I'm tired of playing against the top 5% in trials every time. Bungie needs to increase rewards for players to increase the population. Drop enhancement prisms , cores , upgrade mods etc just for participating . until the population of trials players increases , this mode will remain a mode for the top 5% .

                    • Because trails matchmaking is stupid. Sweaty players are the biggest complainers in the community, and if they don't get to stomp worse players regularly they -blam!- and moan till bungie changes things.

                    • a cap is not necessary, just another pool for those, who already got flawless that week. By this, every one who got to the lighthouse is only matched against others who did in that week for their further attempts. That would make it easier for "non-Pros" to reach the lighthouse even once per week, as they are not matched against 3 flawless streamers in 9 of 10 matches, even when their card is empty....

                    • I used to make serious attempts at Flawless with all 3 characters in D1, and with some success. I have yet to come close in D2. Huge difference. I feel D1 Trials is on par with D2 comp.

                    • I’ve saying this for ages,bungie need to change the matchmaking system from connection based to skill based like survival so more layers can get their flawless but nope,trials only for sweat and streamer

                    • To make Trials fair it should be one run to the lighthouse per character but Bungie will never do that because all the streamers would be whining . This is how streamers make money . If there was a cap on each character then there would be a lot more people playing trying to get there.

                      Maybe a Skill Rank (SR) is needed. Only difference to a trials SR and a Glory rank is that Trials doesn't reset but has a decay over time. Higher skilled players will most certainly gain a Higher SR over lower and mid tier skilled players and will ultimately fight against other higher skilled players matching the their SR. And the lower players will have the same experience, their Skill Rank will match them towards players with equal skill level. This SR has two variables, though. - An [b]Individuals[/b] SR and a [b]Team[/b] SR. - The Teams Skill Ranking will be accumulated by each individual in the team - So the first member has an SR of (20) the second (15) and the third (13) The Teams SR becomes (48) - So their team will be matching other Fire teams from say (35 - 55) Team SR. Now what about Loot, it's hardly fair that lower skilled players will have a higher chance of reach the Lighthouse more consistently than higher leveled players due to the more technical and skilled based play involved. So my solution is to up the stakes. - Beginners to trials SR will have lower standards of Loot but their SR has gone up, so next few flawless attempts won't be so easy considering they are now intermediate players. - Intermediate/Mid tier players will have more loot as you could imagine. - Higher skilled players will have the best standards of Loot drops as well as more of it, multiple weapons/armour. The decay. - Yes, there probably are better ways to implement this but this is my take so far. - with the use of a decay to SR, it will thin out the players who regularly play for wins and flawless attempts as opposed to players in it for the sake of playing for mediocre loot. - a decay will occur every non-active week if trials.
