[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • Bungie, I have played this game since D1 Y1. I have purchased Silver multiple times and have bought every DLC you have released. I cannot explain to you how disappointed I am to see the lack of communication in regards to this subject. This should be addressed as an emergency and if the game needs to come down to fix it then bring it down. You are losing loyal customers to a fluke in your system and its embarrasing. I have enjoyed this game for many years and to see it handled so poorly is a shame. I have nearly replaced my GPU to just play this game but decided against it. You are going to continue to lose revenue and dedicated fans if you cannot get infront of this issue and face it head on. I love what you have made Bungie and it has been apart of my life through lows of breakups and extreme highs of raising a new born. The only thing I ask is that you please.....fix your shit. Sincerely, A Caring Gaurdian

    • Why would bungie post an update saying "High-end users saw big improvements" when AMD 6000 series users have seen no performance improvements? So odd reading that 29th update 🤨

    • I made a video on this. Seems like the GPU clock barely reaches half of what it's capable on my RX 6800XT. https://youtu.be/aIy2z7R3qag Also my dxdiag log. https://pastebin.com/1NJSjuVc

      • Your January 19th update is a joke. You need to acknowledge the countless AMD GPU users in this thread voicing their concerns. It really isn't hard. Take a system with a 5xxx/6xxx AMD GPU and land at the tanged spawn point. You will get comically bad fps. Debug that scenario. I have personally seen the behavior on both 5700XT and 6800XT. Get it together Bungie. This is months of pathetic behavior. My 6800XT pushes extremely high framerates on every game *except* Destiny.

      • Bungie pls. This is insane. Us players have so much money invested in your game. Get this amd gpu stuff figured out. Its as important to us as telesto bugs/exploits are to you (which you tend to fix instantly) How can you let this go on for so long, and barely mention a thing about it. Saying "we're working on it" and leaving it at that for months is unacceptable. WE PAY GOOD MONEY FOR THIS!!!!! Help me understand why apex legends or countless other completely free game developers can get it right, but all the money your massive player base constantly gives you isn't enough to encourage you to put some serious effort into this.

      • 6900XT/5800X running 1080p Game runs terrible, no huge fps improvement. AMD needs some love bungie. 90-120 FPS in pvp. Trust lands 70 fps. Doesn't matter the video quality. My 3070 would get 190-200fps on low settings in pvp. PLEASE keep optimizing for amd.

      • WHAT? High-end users saw big improvements? i.e., RX6800, RX6800XT, RX6900XT it's not high-end cards? Because there are no improvements on them. Well, i see....

        • Just to report the low FPS/low utilization problem is still there for 6900 XT with the newest AMD driver 21.2.1.

Is there a fix to this yet? I'm running a Ryzen 3900XT and a Radeon 6900XT and the performance is terrible. Running over 200fps on 1440P Ultra and then it just nose dives to literally zero frames. This is the only game where I have any issues. Is there going to be a fix or are you just going to keep acting like it's not a Bungie issue?

          • Is it possible to get the game refunded or atleast the season passes that came with beyond light. This is unacceptable from a "AAA" studio. Fps issues, lack of content and constant server errors.

Hi, I was having frame rate issues throughout the game(avg 22fps, used to be about 55fps). I switched the Nvidia shaders off and it got me 60fps in the crucible, but still gave low fps everywhere else. My system specs are below: https://pastebin.com/PVSa6j6C (basically, gtx1060 6GB, 7th-gen i7, 16GB ram)

OMG are you even testing your patches? I have an RX 6900 XT THE AMD's top tier GPU, and performance is awful, actually my rx 5500 xt is getting a better performance than the RX 6900 XT, so dont come telling us that High-end users saw a big improvement because that is a HUGE LIE!!!!!

Shameless plug of a post I made about the nvidia shader cache thing a while ago, replete with dxdiags and explanations: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/258013929 The tldr is that nvidia cards suffer from the shader cache thing quite a lot (zero examples of radeon cards for this particular problem, that I was able to source). It doesn't just "improve performance" it makes the game go from crashing on character select to "playable" (if you can stomach texture load/bleed every single time you do anything and hilariously bright everything). The issue started around the December 17th hotfix, and has not been alleviated (in fact in many cases made worse or more unstable) by any Nvidia driver or windows update since.

            • The update has helped me on a RTX 3080. The increase strongly depends on the area, but on the PvP map "The Fortress" my performance has increased by +50%.

            • Thanks for the update Bungie, but telling that on high end systems there have been improvements is misleading. On the latest AMD high end cards there have been no improvements at all even with latest game patch and AMD drivers.

            • https://pastebin.com/jbWxVLmn All locations, aside from orbit, seem to be affected by low cpu/gpu usage. changing all settings from low to high does not seem to make a difference in FPS. I'm running 1440p at 150% render resolution for now because FPS doesn't change, so at least that's nice, but running at 1440p with high fps would be ideal. Thanks for doing all you can!

            • These are my PC specs... i don't know what happened because normally my FPS would fluctuate at values 130 and up now they fluctuate at 80 and below. sometimes randomly going down to the 20s in the middle of a match. it's the worst during PvP. Display - IPS, 120Hz Graphics Card - GeForce GTX 1060, 6 GB GDDR5 Ram - 16 GB DDR4-2400, inserted Processor - Core i7-7700HQ Storage - 256 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD Here's my DxDiag results. No errors detected on anything when I ran it. https://pastebin.com/vnGeJjU7

This is impossible to play pvp with, the stutter is so bad I see people skipping frames. Here is what I have done so far : Cvars - <cvar name="low_latency_mode" value="0" /> {changed from 1 to 0} <cvar name="mouse_smoothing_mode" value="0" /> {changed from 2 to 0} in game : Changed - fullscreen to window and back to fullscreen set : all setting to low or off Reinstalled nvidia drivers. Deleted the game and reinstalled. Closed or disabled all Onscreen overlays I think I'm out of options here. PC specs : ryzen 3700x rtx2070 super.
