Black Talon Catalyst Useless
The Black Talon Exotic Calalyst as you know increases damage of the heavy attack after successfully guarding against damage.
There are 2 issues here. First is that with the change in sword mechanics guarding drains your energy which reduces your damage making it completely useless.
Second is that the catalyst has lost all sense of individuality. The new sword trait “counter attack” is identical to what the catalyst is and falls on quite a few legendary weapons.
I’m not saying to increase the damage of reversal (but if you do that’s fine), just please give it something else to give an exotic back it’s individuality instead of leaving it as it is. I used Black Talon a lot until the sword changes happened and I feel this was overlooked.

2022 Black Talon is still useless. Every caster frame with decent perks is better. Idc about less ammo cost. The sword offers no benefits at All. Wake up Bungie. Also old weapons need New perks. The perkpool for DOE or shatter es throne weapons make me sad.

1 ReplyI will say I like the current trajectory of catalysts. The last few have been awesome. Specifically looking at the two orbs instead of one from Lumina, the addition of auto loading holster for Witherhoard, the damage buff for Effigy, and of course the absolute best in the game: Trinity Ghoul.

4 RepliesSo maybe i'm ignorant here since I don't have the Catalyst. But I don't see how your statements make the Catalyst useless. The blocking issue sounds like you just want the best of both worlds without a downside. Blocking cannot be free or swords would ruin crucible. Second i'm pretty sure counter attack has always existed. I don't see how counter attack makes the Catalyst useless. Both have the same functionality sure. But do they boost the damage by the same amount? And even if they did you're capable of doing the heavy at range. That's a big benefit.

1 ReplyI seem to recall Bungie/Luke mentioning a while back that they/he doesn’t see [i]exotics[/i] as being these [i]really powerful[/i] weapons, but just stylised & cosmetically different weaponry with maybe a unique perk! Which is just typical of the way the studio/direction is going!

The catalyst allows you to do as much damage as a fully charged heavy attack for 1 ammo. Typically a fully charged heavy attack uses up 8 ammo. Not the flashiest perk around, but far from useless. Bungie should probably change the description, though, so the benefit is more obvious.

They should give it a new skill...perfect block refunds 1 ammo.

Yeah the effect doesn't work right after the changes to swords...unless of course you have stronghold equipped. Then its awesome.

Upvote. Catayst would benefit from faster launch of the ranged attack. The animation is a little long. Or landing heavy attacks charge heavy attacks that sword was so tits when you could spam the ranged attack.

I think they should change the catalyst to a flat damage buff while airborne and using the heavy attack.
