Arbalest, a problem on console?

The weapon isn’t cracked so to speak, stats aren’t crazy but the small amount of flinch it takes is the only reason it’s a problem, more flinch or a longer charge time. Let me hear your thoughts

  • The base flinch is fine, the artifact unflinching mod is the problem. But the bigger issue is the aim assist/hitbox, its WAY TOO FORGIVING at close/medium range.

  • It will rule trials after nov 10th until we find the new meta legendary sniper

  • Had a 44 defeat game with it yesterday. It’s only a problem if everyone uses it. But that cake is taken by auto rifles

  • It's fine. A good sniper vs a good arbalest, the sniper wins 100% of the time. It's aim assist is also overstated. It really only has high aim assist inside mid range, or around 30m. After that its accuracy drops off significantly. The biggest thing that people are actually confusing with aim assist is how it handles flinch. It is easy to maintain a target when getting shot; in part due to its zoom, but also due to the fact it has a charge time. Having a charge time allows the user to correct their shot even after it has been fired. So in short. No, it's not a problem. The problem is a lack of understanding from a large portion of the community how the gun, and linear fusions in general work; their strengths and weaknesses, etc.

Arbalest meta for Trials incoming. Why do I say that? Because people didn't snipe very often until easy options came out. Now that those are gone, what's left? Arbalest.

      • After using it trying to get Komodo, imo the aim assist and/or hit box is a little insane on console, as well as the low amount of flinch. On the other hand it is fairly easy to counter by better players, but I think just how forgiving it is makes it not fun to play against. I know I’ve hit some shots that to me seemed way off. Issue is if they nerf it, the charge time could cause it to be completely useless in PvP. As it stands right now I think it’s more annoying than over powered.

      • Stats are misleading. The hitbox is absurd. I suspect it may be a glitch, like when Queenbreaker’s had 2x the intended AA.

          • It's very strong due to its ease of use. It takes a lot for me to challenge a sniper but if there's an arbalest on the other team I can't do anything about it. It will headshot through flinch, around corners, and with it's large hitbox/aim assist a chimpanzee could have 90% accuracy. The charge time is its only real downside, however with the 30fps/low tick servers/P2P this is almost a non issue. In quickplay it's not as bad since 6v6s are chaotic by nature, but in trials it's absolutely oppressive on console. Borderline unplayable if they're on the other team with swords and drang.

          • I think if you complain about Arbalest you need to work on moving in a less obvious way. Last time I check you have to hold the trigger down for a long time.

          • It isnt a “point, you’re dead” weapon like snipers, so I’m fine with it.

I agree I started using the sniper in pvp, I just unlocked the beloved, and my lord I can’t believe how op that sniper is It only took me 2 days to unlock the revoker (even more OP) Opposing guardians will land all their shots, and I just point and shoot, and somehow it’s a head shot 😂 (boy did I get a lot of hate mail for sniping) I’m about to earn the Pvp linear FR (I forgot the name) so I’m gonna be using the arbalest a lot Can’t wait to see how OP it is

            • I just came back to the game since not playing since launch. Played all of D1 though. Loved the queensbreaker bow in D1, so was pretty excited when i got the arbalest recently. I think its fun. I'll get out played by a decent sniper more often than not. Also, i dont know what you guys are talking about with the "no flinch". I feel that thing flinches harder than a sniper rifle. I just enjoy the gun because i honestly dont see many people using it and its a bit challenging. Yes, it one shots with a hs, but so do snipers minus a charge time. I dont see how this gun can be considered "sweaty" at all.

            • They should rename it flinch proof. I'm not a great shot but the amount of times I've engaged with someone at distance, actually hit my shots (for a change) watch their health get lower, only to be sniped when they've got less than one shot left on their health....... Well it's happened a few times, I'm not good enough for this to happen too regularly. They usually get me before I've seen them

              • BurlyPanther0 you make some valid points and I agree that eververse needs to be removed from the game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

I just think the random chance(with high odds it will mind you) that just about any weapon flinch will pop your reticle into the already large head shot-hit box, is damaging to the game. People WANT power fantasy, reject that anything be tuned, in the name of said power fantasy, while either not playing the game, hating it, or playing it very little. Not everyone knows, in detail, why they don’t like something. If you ask people why they like a particular game they may mention setting, characters, story, weapons, or very general descriptions of gameplay such as, smooth gun play. I’m going to tell you exactly why the crucible is so polarizing and further more, in some circles is hated with a passion. The reason people detest the crucible is simple: Bungie’s inability to balance the feeling of having unstoppable power(space magic), and feeling completely helpless during certain engagements(in both PVP and PVE). A problem such as randomized-free headshot-flinch contributes heavily, and is a perfect example of the problem of power vs control in Destiny. The fact that being shot first and still winning the engagement, regardless of either person’s aim, goes against any rational intuitiveness about how an engagement between two players should play out. Every time it happens, you go pumping bullets into someone(with weapons intended for range combat or if the enemy is CC), and they somehow, through a hail of gun fire, blow your head off, it will feel mildly frustrating at best, enraging at worst. The “feelings” of players, while extremely important, shouldn’t be the primary qualifier of the crucible’s health in this regard, it’s whether people come back or show up. Outside of anecdotal experiences, I can’t prove that I’m right. However, during season of particular problems with balance(not whether a certain gun is op) in relation to the fundamental problem of power vs control, I see people lose interest or straight up walk away from the game. It remains to be seen if Bungie intends on changing the fact that a few weapons, all OHK are essentially heavy weapons in the primary or secondary slot. A player that exercises map control, and obtains heavy weaponry, is in someways entitled to either an easy kill, or guaranteed kill in some cases. Heavy incentivizes map control and follows the natural weapon hierarchy. In contrast, having slightly gimped versions of heavy weapons across slots, as well as predictable flinch, creates more situations where players feel completely helpless unless they use those weapons as well... compounding the core, power vs control problem. Which is what we see taking place now. This is all on top of, built in, seemingly unproblematic snowball mechanics by way of supers, OHK abilities, and linear, 2-3 lane map design.

              • Arbalest is a noobslayer weapon. Very powerful in quickplay, but loses potency in competitive environments where veterans know how to play around the charge time or simply just counter-snipe you with Revokers/Beloveds.

                • The only real issue with Arbalast is the flinch seems to go straight up, with the aim assist auto tracking to your head. They need to change the flinch pattern. That's all it really needs. If flinch went up and to the left or right a little, heads wouldn't be exploding all over Crucible.
