I’ve gotten rid of all expectations, and moved on

I am used to posting here and debating over useless nonsense that will never effect the actual game, I’ve been guilty of dying on hills for a game that isn’t built for me, I’ve made my points against the direction of this game and how it addresses world building, character arcs, etc. All of this and much more has led me to the conclusion after playing since year 1 Destiny 1’s launch that I don’t have to support the parts of the game I don’t enjoy. Maybe I’ll see another pinnacle I like, but I’m not playing Crucible again to earn it the hard way when I can just do a cheese lobby. I’m not gonna grind random drops from vendors for gear anymore since tokens rule most of this game’s entire economy. I’ll be back after watching reviews from DLC drops that revolve around the STORY because that’s all I really care about in Destiny. I’ll pay for content I want and not filler like Shadowkeep or Beyond Light that are both clearly leading to an eventual conclusion. My mind can be changed but I’m no longer pre ordering or giving Bungie another chance blindly time after time like the consumer has been doing since TTK dropped. Enough is enough, and I encourage you all to look at it the same way. Stop trying to make this game into what it’ll never be and just support the content you want and enjoy. This game will never be an Esport but crucible has always been a mess throughout the entire series, it’ll never be a constant cinematic experience because we are in the midst of a seasonal model. Maybe this series will find its identity and level out one day, but for now it’s just trying to please everyone. Their are other games out their to keep me busy, games with the story focus I’m looking for. So if your like me, it’s okay to go find what you are looking for somewhere else instead of trying to turn apples into oranges.

  • I've stop playing Destiny just after the Mars DLC. Then yesterday both Forsaken and Shadowkeep appeared on Gamepass. I fired up Destiny again with joy, without any expectations. I even deleted both my hunter and warlock, keeping only my titan as a playable character. No more expectations, no more grinding for 3 characters. I'm just here for fun. And it's free.

  • Ooh I remember you! You know you can just move on and play other games, right? Destiny isn’t simultaneously the worst and only game in the world.

    • As with anything in life, if you're not having fun, you should move on. I myself still enjoy it, but I'm taking a month break to play other games and to bring back the freshness. I understand why folks hate the game, and some of it is valid but a big problem is until they vault content, bungie won't be able to fix bugs, or add content and or new features very quickly, if at all. Folks forget that. It sucks, but it's the way it is. I really do believe the game will improve, and hopefully Beyond Light will be a great step forward. So far, it looks like it is, but we won't know until not only when its here, but after months go by after, where we will be able to see how much more flexible and speedy programming the game will hopefully be.

      • Isn’t that what everyone does anyways? I mean just playing the parts of destiny you enjoy?. I pvp and raid and pretty much everything else in the game I just do to get gear for them activities. Because of those reason I always see value in destiny’s DLC I find they offer a lot of replay value. I guess if you only like the story your views would be completely different to mine. With that being said only having the one raid this year did mean I found myself without content to do for a long period. Because of that I took a long break and played other games and recently returned with a refreshed view on the game. I think taking breaks from Destiny is key to enjoying it long term, I joined too many party’s and players just constantly moaning about the game, and just think to myself why are they even playing 🤷🏻‍♂️.

      • No one said you had to preorder. Preorders literally do not matter. Its Winter season that matters for purchases. If Bungie are greedy as the forums take, as long as they get your money it doesn’t matter when you get it?

You're not alone. I have been playing since D1 Beta on Xbox 360. I'm NOT giving Bungle any more money for shoddy, weak, minimal content and poorly developed DLC anymore. Until they at least address the infrastructure of this game - mainly the Halo Era 2008ish Peer to Peer network model that even Indie developers don't use anymore, let alone every AAA in existence that moved to Regional Dedicated Host Servers - their insistence that the game is some how "Competitive" is a complete and utter fairy tale.

            • A good post I suspect that there a lot players who are at the same point. I enjoy Destiny but only play what I want to play and have given up on the grind once I get to a level where it does not have a detrimental effect in gameplay. Crucible is bad but you can still have fun as long as you accept some games are going to be crap for a whole range of reasons. Good gaming to all and looking forward to the November expansion.

            • It really is saddening that the best way to go into a new Destiny expansion, is with the lowest expectations ever.

              • I just find it hilarious that a game company that does their entire job on computers, feels the need to complain, and that their excuse of late content is validated because of covid. Covid is a horribly thing sure but give me a -blam!-in break. Out of all the jobs that could be affected by covid, game developers, tech support, and anything else that is largely done on computers are the LEAST affected. You wanna know what i do for a living? I work in pest control...I HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE...Get your crap together bungo, you are ruining all the fungo

              • I'm with you, OP. I've played D1 since day 1. I avoided Crucible and raids then since I've mostly been playing solo games, but I enjoyed exploring the world and the story then. I've become better at Crucible now due to the forced play in order to finish quests. But the story have been lacking, the lore comes in texts here and there, but that delivery method does not feel immersive. I wish Bungie concentrated more on the story, video cut scenes and new story quests delivered from time to time during the season. All normal quests and character evolving should be doable in PVE and solo modes - we should not be forced, for instance, to complete a raid in order to finish an exotic quest. It could be made as Bungie have done with some quest, a choice between doing this or that. But still there are quests demanding a certain play. I understand many will disagree, but I would like to see a Crucible game where everyone is put on the scene with the same weapons and the same armour. The matches should randomize the gear and the map should take into account want weapon are being used. For instance a small map should set the players with, as an example, a shotgun, a side arm and a sword. A large map could have a sniper rifle, a pulse rifle and a rocket launcher.

              • D1 vet since alpha and beta here and I completely agree. Until something changes, I ain't giving Bungie another cent. I use to pre-order / buy day 1 / week 1 every damn expansion up to Shadowkeep but with Shadowkeep I realized how shit the expansion and it's " season pass " was ( besides season of dawn as that was the only season I actually liked due to it having Osiris and Saint-14 in it ) . Beyond Light is the first expansion in the history of this franchise that I won't be pre-ordering, I won't be buying it day 1 nor week 1, and for that matter, I won't even buy it in the first month. Maybe if I hear relatively good things about it Ill purchase it when its on sale so that I can still play with my friends and clanmates but I won't be as invested into this series as I once was. both games. I want this game to succeed but due to cheaters , cheesy builds ( not referring to mountaintop but to 100 intellect granting you PASSIVE super energy for example ), peer to peer, horrible tickrate, horrible seasonal model, not enough rewards / incentive to participate in " CORE " activities, the lack of factions ( dead orbit , new monarchy, FWC ) and much much more, I just realized its time to move on and quit being so invested into this game. Anyway, Come November 19th, it's Cyberpunk2077 time !

I was grinding MNF golf balls, taken/fallen mods and also completed exotics like divinity and anarchy. Then it occurred to me (aka light bulb moment) Either, the next DLC has nothingthat will be replacing these mods, mats and weapons. Or, I am too attached to old stuff and old ways and have a fomo Either way, vaulting and sunsetting has forced me to rethink how much time and money I want to invest in this game. The grind is there but its being driven by content vaulting and an unknown fear of bungie making things more difficult for players in the future. For example, when I was farming mods, I was thinking: Is Bungie not going to make future content to replace these mods? This thought just shows the confidence I have in this game. Anyways, I seriously doubt I'll play/pay in November at launch and by the time I join back, the LFG forum will be KWTD and MUST have x or y shi1tshow so I'll move away again as usual. This time it may be for good but I know that this is Bungie's last chance to retain me and I'm sure they don't care.

I totally agree and respect that perspective! I wish more players would come to a similar conclusion. Either you play the game as it is enjoying the parts you like, or just stop playing. Either way, it's clear that Bungie has made up their mind on where they want the game to go.
