The meta!

TL:DR exercise better judgement when making new weapons and exotics or changing the meta. Consider the lessons to be learned in the new iteration of the universe and the Guardians it will produce. When we enter a new meta and you make the choice to raise one thing while simultaneously lowering other things that preformed well previously, it shakes up the game. A good thing, admittedly your intention. To prevent the game from becoming stale. I have found after an absurd number of hours and using many different archetypes of weapons, that each one has their own lesson. Lessons concerning how you should move about and impact the universe of Destiny. Considerations on the many variables of what it means to see or hear that weapon in the hands of an enemy Guardians. I understand the importance of providing the entire population access to the ability to excel in this world. Even if quickly, cheaply. Having a "life" and responsibilities means there are fewer hours in the day to hone one's craft and truly master the swath of weaponry presented every few months. [Keep them coming!] I recall one of the ViDocs where a dev was ecstatic at the idea of pulse rifles returning with a soon to be implemented buff. I rolled my eyes at the premise thinking, "as if I don't already see the safe players clinging to their bygones and vigilance wings." But smiled at the idea of another getting a chance to use their favorite weapon type. I got very excited at the idea of Trials returning. I listened as the Devs said they worked so hard not to f*ck this up. That they made sandbox changes to ensure a fun state of PvP upon its arrival. I had foolishly assumed we had found the closest to a balanced state we could achieve in this wild universe. A universe where you're grossly overpowered for the thrill of it, with it reined back by a series of checks and balances. Infatuated with my own ideas. Some might argue that we have. I love feeling strong in Destiny. I despise the story suggesting that we slay gods and apply our newly acquired powers only to feel like I'm chasing a carrot on a treadmill. My pursuit for Not Forgotten in the final season of Competitive forced me to let go of a lot of my unnecessary movement. To be aware of head level of every engagement on every map. And I was better for it. I wasn't stagnating. I often deter the clanmates that claim to want to be the best from using things I would call crutches. Unless it would undermine their fun. Worm Husk. Artifact overshield batteries. Fusions. Bastions. 600 autos. Gemini's. Dunemarchers. Old Antaeus wards. Shinobu's. Contraverse w/ old handheld . Getaway artist... These things greatly reward you for things you're already doing. Or they lack appropriate limitations and encroach upon other weapons/exotics range dominance/specialization. It is good to feel powerful, but when designed in this way, it hurts the fabric of the game. And the player. They are lazy and have not figured out how to survive without procing a healing overshield on dodge roll. It produces a strange dichotomy between players. People rewarded for mediocrity and the no life sweats frustrated with blue berries that don't know how to play the game. We are producing conditions that aren't conducive to an environment where veterans would want to teach or engage. You aren't awarded any worthwhile accolades for doing a Guided game. Or carries. Not outside the Title and Kindness of your heart. Initially when you chose to buff 600 autos I said, "Auto rifles have always been the worst metas in Destiny." I have friends and clanmates that at first rejoiced. Autos haven't been touched in forever, but they weren't just being adjusted. They were replacing the very weapons people whined about for the same ttk. The only difference was, those weapon types had greater restrictions on them already in place due to their nature. Shorter ranges. Limited ammo. Recoil pattern. Auto rifles out of every weapon type in this game have the least lessons to teach. They don't require you to master movement or break line of sight. You rarely have to gauge your range due to map design. You are within range, worry not. Getting body shots isn't a problem because it is an easy move back to the head with little repercussion. They are already flinched. You have 40+ bullets, you can continually fire at entryways with the 2 other guardians also running Gnawing. I can see how you might have thought this would keep the people not well versed in gun play populating survival and Trials. They get big numbers in 6s standing outside of cover in the middle of a lane, spraying into an enemies spawn and think, "I belong in Trials." Most players are unconcerned with the objectives. And so they need no theories or tactics. They run from radar ping to radar ping. They don't recognize the spawns. How to trap. When to flip. When to anchor. How to put pressure on the radar without exposing themselves to attack. That they should volley their Supers and not use them at once. They don't need to because they are content getting to 25 kills in Clash. You're taking away Countdown, the best game type in the game that would help them grow, but that's for another discussion. It has become increasingly difficult to keep my best clanmates playing who tire of dying to a firing wall of .5 Gnawing/Summoners or alternatively breaking 40+ kills spraying the very same thing back. The game bores them. The tracking. The aim assisted creations being introduced with each season. I don't mind Autos being buffed, but show better judgement on the weapons you choose to be the quickest to a kill. What lessons does the definitive choice teach? Do you have to slide shot? Change verticality. AIM?! Or just hold a trigger. Did your one depression of a melee button just arc through every person within 60 ft?! Yes it did. Show better judgement at conception going forward. People might like playing with a cheap thing at first, but if they're content and never moving, they tire and stagnate. Then they spiral toward entropy and go play Fortnite and Apex.
