I made a post about this too. I agree 100%. The problem is Bungie doesn’t want to make this game competitive for some reason. I don’t get it... I really don’t get it. It would draw in so many more players. The most popular multiplayer games are in that position because they’re competitive and skillful. Why would any studio not want to bring in more players to their game?

 • They tried making it competitive before. That almost killed the game.

It didn’t fail because it was competitive, it failed because it was bad. It was less competitive then than any other time in history. That’s why MLG lost interest in the the game and 90% of PvP players and streamers left the game.

 • D2 at launch was made that way with the hopes of making Destiny a competitive game for E Sports. They did it terribly. And even then, Destiny isn’t meant to be a competitive game. It’s meant to be a game about killing evil aliens and getting loot.
D2 at launch was made that way with the hopes of making Destiny a competitive game for E Sports.
Actually, D2 vanilla was designed solely for casual players. Bungie themselves have admitted this. To see that, you don’t have to look any further than how rewards, lore, subclass trees, time investment, and everything else was dumbed down in PvE. Fixed rolls and universal cooldowns were a lazy way to balance PvP. If D2 was made to be a competitive game, it would have had at launch: - private matches - a ranked playlist - Trials with card-based MM - dedicated servers - higher tick rate - 60 FPS and FOV slider on console - advanced controller settings - frequent sandbox updates - hosted tournaments It had none of those things. The time period we’re discussing is D2’s launch. If you’re going to quote me, don’t conveniently leave the parts out that don’t support the point you’re trying to make. And even having half of these things is unacceptable.

 • Bungie themselves, said they pushed eSports. Community didn't like Bungies version/idea/vision for the competitive push. MLG lost interest, Bungie bailed on the idea, introduced 6 v 6 back, made a Go Fast update. It may have been casually friendly ( smart play ), but it was developed with the intent to make an entrance into the eSport scene. 4 v 4, team play, no LL advantage. Their foundation of a balanced, competitive shooter. Bungie failed at delivering, but to say "vanilla" D2 was solely made for casuals, would be incorrect. It's not a matter if opinions. There was even an interview about it, and how in the end "it'd totally be up to the community". I'm not making this post to call you out, or anything of that nature. No ill intent. These are facts, that easily could have been overlooked, for not being in the headlines. Besides, there was so much fuss, so many problems, everyone was pointing the fingers at everyone else.... it's very understanding why people think it was made for casuals. They made it casually friendly, but when they bailed on the "hardcore" aspect, the casual aspect stood out like a sore thumb. And yes, it was the community that shut it down. Not because the community didn't want it, but because Bungie couldn't get it right, for many reasons, but only 1 was needed : no separate sandboxes.

 • I’m not saying they didn’t want it to be eSports, obviously that’s why we got 4v4 and universal cooldowns etc. What I’m saying is Bungie trying to make the game competitive isn’t why it failed. It failed because they did an absolute dogshit job at making it competitive. The way they did it too heavily altered the core identity of Destiny PvP, and it still lacked all of the basic requirements for a competitive shooter. PvE was absolutely casualfied though.

 • Cool, I guess when ya typed "solely" I focused a bit much on that word. My interpretation of your post seems to be off. It seemed as if you were blaming casuals, for the state of D2 at launch. After that reply, it seems you're holding Bungie accountable, for their failure at introducing their vision/idea.

 • Bungie is the only party ever responsible for the game’s failures. Many people on here try to place blame on streamers, hardcore players, and PvP players, but that’s asinine.
