I rarely post here and was just checking in because of repeated weasel errors on PS4.
Anyway, I see a bunch of people repeating the line that PvP numbers are at record highs for this last Iron Banner. I’m here to tell you that isn’t true. In fact the numbers were lower than in the first Iron Banner of Warmind, I’m sure probably others have been even higher, that was just the first one I checked, thread here:

Basically, Crucible tryhards who are desperate to keep matchmaking changes because it gives them easier games are willing to make up any old bullshit to argue in its favour.
I think says a lot, like they know that probably most people will hate this and they’re trying to negate that with a totally made up “fact”. The posts I saw this morning were people basically apologising for their opinion like “I know this was the most popular Iron Banner ever but I found it totally unenjoyable”.
Edit: crucible population yesterday was back around 350k and 11% of active players, but yes definitely everyone loves crucible now because CBMM, that’s just facts and logic.

Nobody said record numbers. Just a surge in population. Which is true.

Edited by TheCyo: 7/8/2020 11:03:06 AMSome facts for our PvP Overlords they do not like to hear: a) Only margin groups had connection issues in SBMM. Average players are the biggest pool of players, so they never had lag/queue time issues because of SBMM b) High end players are now dipping into this big pool of average players with CBMM and now have the same connection quality/queue times average players always had c) High end players clearly now have a better Crucible experience than before d) Average players have it worse, as their connection/queue times did not get better, but they have suddenly statistical outliers in their Lobbies that make more frags than the rest of their team combined e) As high end players are a minority (Bell Curves anyone?) and they are the only ones benefiting from CBMM, I wonder, where are all the new players in Crucible coming from? Or why should average players, who did not benefit in anyway from the new CBMM, now flock in greater numbers into Crucible? Maybe first IB in season and actually 2 new weapons after a very long time? These are all just simple facts.

We only Listen to truths not facts . I’m Joe Biden and I’m telling you....wait , I’m not Joe Biden or am I ? What are we talking about again ?

Even if iron banner had 50 million players, 95% of them still thought it was dogshit. Impress me when Bungie makes 0 changes and there's still that many players next time.
-
To be honest i dont mind either way. I didn’t typically match with sweatlords in SBMM. The only difference I’ve really noticed in my matches is time it takes to find a match. Ill be brutally honest. SBMM is great when I can actually find a friggin match. At the tail end of last season I couldn’t count how many times I would wait 10 minutes just to play a 3v4 in a 6s mode. My only gripe with CBMM is that it seems like people still teleport around with their Mcdonalds wifi. But hey who cares. It’ll change back. Bungie does this all the time.
-
Crucible tryhards are the worst, thats why they put IB and mayhem in the same week the last time, mayhem is the ONLY fun thing about crucible so they decided to throw it up at the same time as IB to pad their numbers. Thats what the voices say when i take my tinfoil hat off so its probably mostly true. Sweaty crucibabies are definitely the worst thou.

Got my basic two weapons bounty done and bailed out of this abomination we used to love in Destiny...Iron Banner. They better bring weapons of Morning Star or Clever Dragon caliber or this regular Joe Shomo won’t ever touch IB. Losing SBMM stinks so Bungie no more recycled BS weapons or Joe Shomos are not coming due to CBMM. Entice us to be cannon fodder.
-
It was people that had fun last season when there was sbmm. They went in this season. Saw how bad it was and bailed. If anything, those numbers represented the playerbase’s hope. Then it was murdered. Now, back down to the basement cbmm belongs

It was still fun to play :)

Edited by Mr Fats: 7/8/2020 8:52:47 PMI will be honest, normally I jump on IB and then come to the forums to see if I am the only one not enjoying it... But this time, I actually enjoyed it, games were fun, even when playing against full party teams I didnt feel I was getting destroyed and even if I was loosing by a lot or getting mercy i kind of enjoy the game. but most importantly, I dont remember a single game being laggy, maybe 1 player was laggy but thats about it. And I think thats one of the reason why I enjoyed it so much more. This have been the only PvP I have played since the changes, so I can't really say how this is working on normal crucible but I did like it. now this is my experienced, I have not really played much PvP in the last few weeks/month and I am not a hardcore PvP player but it was nice, came across very good players and tried to learn from them as much as I could, good to come up against them, helped me realize how much I still need to learn. This is my opinion, you would have yours and it will probably be different, and thats ok

This was the worst IB I have ever played in! Matches that ended with 75 points or more between stomping team and team being obliterated. The cheating was in almost every match. How is this successful for any gaming franchise? I gave up on the 4th bounty from complete and utter burnout.
-
Pinnacles, that's all it was. Just wait until next IB when most are 1060.
-
Iron Banner was enjoyable in D1. Iron Banner in D2 is atrocious.
-
I saw tons of ppl saying it was cuz of cbmm that numbers are higher. Number were higher but it was not cuz cbmm. Lol. Whoever thinks that is a total dunce. It's because everyone wanted to get god rolls of the auto and sidearm. Literally the only reason why numbers were higher. Next IB the participation will go down a lot and then even more after that once everyone starts getting their god rolls and has already hit max LL. Cbmm is horrible. Lag is still off the charts and a good 40-50% of matches are just mercies. Plus all the cheaters are free now to aim bot the entire player base instead of just being stuck at the top.
-
I dunno about numbers but I can 100% tell you cbmm didn’t lead to instant game finding to me. I still sat there with 10/12 11/12 in quee screen for a while on ps4 with Ethernet connection.

Edited by tpblue46: 7/7/2020 3:53:00 PMNot to mention the high numbers are only due to one thing PVE players going in to get high stat armor and replacement weapons that wont be "SUNSET" for a full year. I took the time to skim through some of the 50k or so comments from Kackis latest video talking about these numbers, pretty much 90% said they were playing IB because of sensetting and once they have the armor they wont be back. I would think that come IB next month you will see record lows if Bungie doesn't make changes, like at the very least solo mathmaking.

Edited by Old-Iron-Balls: 7/9/2020 5:19:07 AMIgnore.

Edited by The Hermit IX: 7/7/2020 7:00:47 PMI’m not sure it was as busy as claimed. I sat for long periods for queues to fill up. I was also put in several matches that didn’t have full teams. I honestly had less wait to get into matches in the last IB.
-
I know. They lie a lot about lag and que times to justify the fact they just don't like playing each other.
-
ok I have no idea where the line is for considering someone a tryhard but in my case sbmm means I have to sweat all day everyday for every crucible match I ever play. And its just constant meta spam. Look I can't play that hard that often. Its literally not a possibility for me. And what I see when most people say they want sbmm is the fact that they have to fight meta spamming tryhards. with cbmm I still find myself fighting a tun of meta spamming tryhards but its not nearly as bad as it was with sbmm where I can't even catch a break in quickplay. I see what people mean when they say their tired of fighting tryhards. But i'n my case I already have to fight a tun of tryhards but with cbmm it's not all day everyday like it was with sbmm. not to mention the fact that I can actually play with my friends without them having to deal with the people I always have to fight in sbmm. Also the long load times and constant lag that came with sbmm. But thats pretty much It I don't feel like writing an entire essay so I'll end it by saying cbmm gives everyone a chance to either get sweats or non sweats equally. While sbmm makes it so that one side gets sweats and only sweats while the other does not. Ever. I don't really consider it fair to say bring sbmm back so that lower skilled players dont have to fight tryhards when even with cbmm half way decent people still have to fight them even with cbmm.
-
Doesn’t surprise me. CBMM sucks!

There's just no way this was the biggest ever. Not a single one any other time when the powerful rewards really, really MATTERED? Not one of the earlier ones when there was more hype and the weapons/armor weren't being recycled for the 8th -blam!-ing time? I don't think so. The game has been very lackluster for the last 6 months. Nothing about any of my interactions with the game and matchmaking suggests to me that this is anywhere near a high point in Destiny history. There is very little to do this season. There was previously ONE (non-year-1) kinetic 600rpm auto in the ENTIRE game (which are top tier META right now) and they added a "reprised" one to the loot pool. So boredom + people still "needing" pinnacles early in the season + (sort of) new loot = temporary participation spike. Let's see how it looks next time when everyone has faded away in a month. It was nice and easy stomping casual players, but I doubt they enjoyed it much and will be hungry for more of the same...
-
Played 3 rounds. Was given a mercy loss 3 times. Shrugged and said welp that's enough IB for me. I know I know. Get Gud. Whatever. I just don't have the energy or care to be an absolute sweat over gear that won't matter anyway. Just me.

https://www.dexerto.com/amp/destiny/destiny-2-hits-crucible-player-record-after-bungie-disables-sbmm-1387826 1. 900,000+ is higher then warminds 2. Warmind was also a season where cbmm was enabled for quickplay this drawing a ton of pvp players back. 3. You're comparing a fresh game in its first years numbers to that of a older game in its third year and yet we see how cbmm can still bring the flood of players back. Nothing you or that reditt post can say will change the fact that cbmm brought back thousands upon thousands of players and the majority clearly prefer that mm.

I only do iron banner this month just for bounty and pinnacle No more iron banner until next season
