State of the Crucible (not good)

Removing SBBM is one of the absolute dumbest things I've ever heard of. Among the reasons listed is, "Provide more places where the outcome of the match isn't as important as enjoying the experience." Let's talk about that one. First, answer this question: how many people enjoy losing? How many people enjoy getting sweated out of a match by 2 people who just crush everyone else in the match? How many people enjoy turning a corner and dying immediately 10 times in a row? 20 times? Every 15 seconds for an entire crucible match? This is the experience of the bottom half of Destiny players. So, here's what's going to happen. Everyone who's already pissed off at the Crucible will stop playing, leaving only the sweaty top ranked players. Game over, Crucible. Nobody, and the Crowd means nobody, wants to play in an environment where they are constantly getting rocked. And since removing SBBM, that's what's happened in the Crucible. Want to fix the Crucible? Same problems as the rest of Destiny -- speed it up, get rid of auto-assisted aim (which doesn't help, but only yanks your aim way off), and put people together who genuinely stand a chance at doing a decent job. It's really very simple. After that, it's an "incentives" question, but that's for a different topic.

  • Maybe for like the bottom 500 players in the world because crucible just saw a massive spike in pvp this past week. Don’t you think maybe its possibly just you not enjoying the game? Just because a few of you don’t enjoy it doesn’t mean everyone else hates it too. Its clear cbmm is far better and its way more fun to face players of different levels, some are even improving because of it. Terrible players cant improve by playing against other terrible players, a terrible player however can learn so much in just a few games simply watching better players like the weapons they use, the way they play the game, the way they position themselves etc. anyone refusing to accept that fact is just a salty and delusional player that hates better players.

Op- oh man you are my hero- I just logged in to create a post about this. I’ve played many mmos and this just doesn’t work.- funny how they said ‘they are listening’ ....to whom? Not a good move......choices. That had many. Just make that choice- when you see that it’s a bad match- opt out. If that’s what they want to see on their matches..then be it.

    • Speak for yourself. I and a lot of my friends and clan mates are casual, average players and love the change to matchmaking. I suppose if you’re like bottom 20% it might be rough but if you just put in a little time to even become average (which anyone can do if they just play and learn smart positioning) then you should have a positive experience if you like to play pvp.

      • Matchmaking is ridiculous. What it should do is this. Select a pool of players with good connection to one another. From that pool, create the match of 12 players with a similar level of skill. For some reason it doesn't seem to bother doing that last step. Previously, it didn't bother doing the 1st step. I don't understand why it has to be one or the other and not a combination of both.

        • i started playing destiny halfway through season of dawn were i only played pve, last season was pretty bland so i decided ok im gonna play lots of pvp this season, over the course of a month i saw some pretty reasonable improvement, my lobbys always seemed really balanced last season, i was fighting hard for the wins, didnt always win but every game i could work on something new, positioning, or a player that was better then me i could work on tackling that player and doing better against them in the next few games, control was a great space for me to just practice my shot. This season the players im bumping into are smashing me so hard and fast that its not fun, i dont feel compelled to try and improve cos the skill gap is literally enormous. CBMM is fine, im ok with it but how the lobbys are balanced once 12 players are curated for a match seems to be very lopsided right now. i think ill try to keep improveing but i have been avoiding the playlists in favour of playing in privates with better players.

        • Been seeing a metric ass ton of Jotuun and Bastion. People whined on Erentil for months but somehow not a peep on these guns? Then we got Effigy and WitherHoard turning PvP into literal gimmick mayhem. 🧐

        • Everything your sayibg here is true. In all of destiny history bungie has only ever done 1 or the other. Either its all connection or all sbmm. But both situations end the same just from different directions. They should do a 50/50 mix instead of one or the other.

        • The pace for a quickplay is not fun. It's getting steamrolled or steamrolling the team. Either way your playing every match like your pants are on fire. I'm kinds over debating about. I'm still enjoying it but that intensity I have to play at makes it less fun than i was having a few weeks back.

            • Funny thing is according to Destiny Tracker, your stats are in the top 30% or better compared to the rest of the players. The fact that you're doing so much worse now goes to show how much you were pampered by the SBMM. You did relatively well without getting any good at pvp. I feel that CBMM is a more honest system. PVP is not supposed to be all inclusive, you're supposed to do better if you're good, and worse if you're not. If you want to face only the players of your skill level, you have Survival still offering SBMM. This is exactly the same as it was for good players in the past, every single match was a sweatfest unless they played classic mix, which was the only CBMM playlist. At least with CBMM overall connection quality is far better than it ever was with SBMM. In the past a good player not only had to sit through long que times, and have to face nothing but top players, but they also had to deal with terrible connections because the only players of their level were scattered around the world. Now you're connecting to players close to you majority of the time (fireteams break the system, as they did with SBMM), so there's less of an impact from conneciton quality.
Among the reasons listed is, "Provide more places where the outcome of the match isn't as important as enjoying the experience."
Exactly, casual modes in other words - where there shouldnt be 149-150 wins each game and instead should focus on the enjoyment of just playing.
Let's talk about that one. First, answer this question: how many people enjoy losing? Unless you're inferring every low tier players always matches vs high tier players....because only high tiers would be able to kill players "every 15 seconds"
This is the experience of the bottom half of Destiny players.
Who play pvp significantly less then the top half, so should pvp cater to its upper half that grind pvp or its lower half that barely touch the modes?
So, here's what's going to happen. Everyone who's already pissed off at the Crucible will stop playing, leaving only the sweaty top ranked players. Game over, Crucible.
Except pvp numbers are up again as they always are during cbmm time periods vs sbmm time periods. Which means not only have we NOT lost players...we've gained, anyone that drops d2 because of the 1/20 game chance they have to match high %ers are easily countered by the massive increase we got. Not to mention low tier players come and go daily to begin with.
Nobody, and the Crowd means nobody, wants to play in an environment where they are constantly getting rocked. And since removing SBBM, that's what's happened in the Crucible.
Nope, the only ones that "constantly get rocked" are the bottom of the barrel that get "rocked" by average players who they'll play the most often with or against. Those that play 4 matches a week for the pinnacle then dip, hardly the ones pvp should cater towards.

                • The only problem with every theory/complaint I hear on here is this assumption casuals/below average are the majority. The actual majority, average players, will notice little to no difference on average depending on which end of the average skill range they belong to and will stick around just as they always have. Above average players will also stick around and more than likely they will invest more hours than usual. The only people cbmm will push away will be the low-skill or low time investment players that largely only go into crucible for pinnacles or quest requirements. So in short they didn't fix crucible (stacks are still a very real issue), but they sure did improve it for the actual majority that collectively clocks the most hours in the mode. Population numbers have been shooting up as of late confirming this as well, but people on here will still deny that because it contradicts their opinion.

improve upon your own gameplay. too many players asking bungie to put sbmm instead of trying to actually improve. you guys also lie about playing top players constantly when we can literally look at every match you play.

                        • Yeah, rolling back SBMM was stupid. Not because it didn't need a change or at least some tweaking. But because they seem to have went back to the same matchmaking as before. Why is that stupid? Simple... if the matchmaking was fine before SBMM they wouldn't have changed it. There have always been balancing issues with the matchmaking, going back to a system that was admittedly severely flawed isn't an improvement. Numbers skyrocketed because people were curious how the change would play out, and will likely quickly diminish back to pre-change levels (my personal opinion. Only time will tell if I'm correct or not).
