Why did I bother to GIT GUD in the Crucible if you're going to remove Skill Based Matchmaking

EDIT: After a few other posts and some helpful replies, I understand I did not actually GIT GUD, I was just benefiting from how the SBMM was putting me into matches. RIP the days when I was 'good' at Crucible. Turns out I wasn't and it was an SBMM illusion. That said, Crucible is now not fun for me I'm really on the fence about whether I want to put in the time to actually GIT GUD, or if I even can if I'm actually this outclassed. ORIGINAL POST: I put a lot of work in to git gud in the Crucible. You removed Skill Based Matchmaking and now it feels exactly the same as 5 years ago. Doesn't matter what I do, I just get ganked every 10 seconds. • To my understanding skill based matchmaking is ment to git gut. You climb the ladder and go against tougher opponent when you keep improving. Why is it that people say that cbmm is where the real gitting gut is? All people do is stomp on the lower end, while in sbmm was against "your level" of skill and higher. Can someone explain?

            • With CBMM you can actually improve not just get the illusion of improvement. I’ll mention my experience because it differs from yours. I was a 1.2ish D1 player. D2 I was a 1.6ish KD, however I was playing controller and wanted to learn MK. (This would be my first FPS on MK). This happened in season of the worthy with SBMM matching me against my controller performance. I was getting destroy sub 1.0 KD every single game, finally got to a point were I was at 1.0 most games but I was still incredibly frustrated because I didn’t feel like I was making improvements past that. Flash forward to this season I am dropping above 2.0 regularly. In my case SBMM gave me the impression I was a bot on MK when I am not actually playing that bad. Still need a lot if work though but I can get better in CBMM not in SBMM.

                • I need to Git Gud also but the current match making is such a fiasco. Yesterday in I.B. I started a match that was 3v6 and directly went to 2v6 until about the last minute. Not sure how I can git gud like that. Here is that match. https://www.bungie.net/en/Profile/GameHistory/254/9854502/The_Inquisitor54?character=2305843009285394095 I have not seen a reduction in que times or lag. Right now there are many 4-6 stack teams running and I swear the game picks the person using their phone as a hotspot.

Turns out I wasn't and it was an SBMM illusion.
Literally the same thing happens when Crucible goes from CBMM to SBMM for all the good players. They suddenly get lumped together and their KDs all drop and they need to 'sweat' to compete and their skill was all just a CBMM illusion. It goes both ways.

If you want your pinnacle play elimination or comp they are SBMM. If enough of us quit playing, Bungie will take notice, and maybe make a change. What we need is a choice of either SBMM or CBMM. If you want SBMM back boycott crucible. Tell your friends to spead the word.

Really? I got a 1.2 KD and i dont really notice much of a difference. I think i only ran into a couple of games out of about 40 played were i got stomped in IB, but other than that, i dont notice any different between SBMM and CBMM. My last 25 games, pretty sure all solo, i'm 13 and 12 and basically 1.2 kd. Lifetime W/L is 51% so i'm telling the truth.

                            • This post highlights exactly why most casual players wanted to keep SBMM. They thought they were improving, but instead they were getting matched with worse players. I am by no means good at crucible, but I'm absolutely enjoying CBMM much more. I see posts of people complaining they get mercied every match, but the only time I ever get mercied is when I have 3+ players with a 0.6 KA/D max, I suspect these are the players who thought they were getting good at crucible in SBMM.

New Iron Banner quest - it’s only 25 kills with two weapon types. Top tier - done in two matches Middle tier - done in 5 to 7 Low Tier - Anything up to 20 (possibly more) especially as bounties and quests fail to track randomly So 20 minutes versus 200 and that’s before factoring in mercies, losses, etc Yeah, CBMM and Crucible quests are now equally fair in terms of time commitment. I’m just glad I did my Revoker quest last season when my sniping at least had a chance of working, as opposed to those that appear to snipe mid snipe before they appear from behind cover - not that network manipulation occurs.

So first off, you don't have a 1.5 K/D. You have a 0.94 in QP and a 0.65 in survival. The difference between the two is huge. A 1.5 K/D player has refined their movement, aim, and decision making a lot more. https://www.destinykd.com/d2/xb/CanalianPhil Second, SBMM puts you in brackets where your skill essentially becomes the average (or close to it) in the match. So you thought you were improving, but in reality, you were put into an artificial environment where the top of the bell curve was shifted to place you at the apex (mean), rather than you being placed on a curve generated from the skill of the entire population. Strict (very important word there) SBMM literally provides a false sense of skill by doing this. That's just how it is. What does this mean? This means that in your skill bracket, you don't have to improve your aim, movement, awareness, tactics, etc. in order to consistently perform well within that bracket. And since you didn't have to improve due to the lack of any driving force or even an examples of better players in your matches, you likely didn't improve, even if you think you did. A driving force is required for improvement. This can be overcoming a challenge (a better player) or desire, and SBMM provides neither. No need to improve if you're all of a sudden the average or better, and there aren't gonna be 2.5 K/D players in the lobby of a 0.94.
SBMM with more loose criteria is different. A 0.9 player may still be able to match a 1.2 or 1.3 if the criteria is loose enough. This would create a larger skill gap within matches and provide a much better frame of reference for determining one's own skill. Overcoming players who are slightly better than you is a driving force for improvement. Strict SBMM doesn't do this.
Third, in relation to my second point, CBMM places you along the curve exactly where you should be in relation to the rest of the population. As a 0.94, there are several thousand players who are better than you and CBMM will show that. It will not shift the mean in your favor. Long story short, SBMM in D2 was very strict and made you think you improved, but you did not. Your stats show that. Sorry.

                                      • Yup! I suspect it's for the streamers and Trials of Osiris. Easier for streamers to stream without tech issues, and they'll dominate more being connected well to people who are worse at the game. And maybe, MAYBE they think that the problems in Trials of Osiris will be solved by prioritizing connection, or maybe just enough that people will shut up for a little while. Meanwhile the rest of us are going to enjoy being in the game and getting trounced by better connections and the lack of a bracket. We're gonna REALLY enjoy the fact that it doesn't matter how well we do, it's about hoping that the people who are on and match with you are terrible. Especially because the console versions really didn't struggle so much with connection issues, but now that we have to make Trials work on PC and lag/ping are such an issue there, the rest of us must suffer. Thanks for looking after the little guy, Bungie. Not even just the casuals, but everyone else who wanted to enjoy the game.

I'm actually of a similar kd with a 1.53. Some lobbies with large fireteams are difficult to beat no matter the matchmaking. I've lost every iron banner game that was vs a six man fireteam, they use a good tactic of all sticking together. Other times I go into a solo lobby and their might be a player who's better then me. I try my best, sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. You need a since of humility and recognize some people are better. All you can do is try and say that you gave it your all! I some games I'll do good and others not so good. I feel bad for some opponents. These opponents have a long way to go and I'm just more talented at the game then them. So much that I feel like they don't learn anything other then they are not on my level, its not fair to them. I understand, I still have those games at times. They should be able to forge their skill the same way I did, with facing opponents at their level or slighty better. That way they can retain and slowly learn as you need to slowly build memories of what to do when faced with a certain scenario. Overall I'm conficted on cbmm vs sbmm. I like the randomness of cbmm but I don't like the experience of 3 players carrying the rest of their teams. Idk those are just my 2 cents.
