New Player with some thoughts!

Let me start by saying I think Destiny 2 is such a great game! I started playing in Oct 2019 so I’m very new to the scene. I come from Halo and World of Warcraft and this game to me is like the worlds are blended! I love the game types and I love the insane variety of it all. Sure there are meta weapons and whatnot but I do fine using whatever I like 🙂 My reason for this post is to bring some fresh eye observations. Not so much complaints, just observations/suggestions. Master working gear is very expensive as we all know. Being that is the case, once I master worked my set, I felt as if all other gear sets are doomed to rot in my vault. I love the appearances but I can’t justify using gear that is so much weaker than my master worked gear. I was wishing Destiny had a transmog system like WoW. Now that is coming, I’m stoked! Thank you for this upcoming feature! On the topic of appearances, I love the weapon and armor ornaments this game has. Very creative and cool ways to individualize your guardian. I do not like how they’re acquired however. Some are bright dust, some silver, some are supposedly dropping from engrams (I’m level 246 and have yet to get flex enhance replicate 😭). I am suggesting an alternative system. Exotics weapon catalysts are tied to certain achievements and then require work to fully unlock. So here’s my idea. Have exotic gear ornaments on eververse for silver but have a bright dust to silver conversion option. But ALSO, for the same Armor ornaments, tie them into the game as if they were a catalyst. For example: In order to unlock flex enhance replicate, you must get 300 melee kills against opponents while wearing Synthoceps. That sort of thing. You want money, I get that. You want us to grind, I get that. You want to limit availability to increase rarity, I get that. But I feel it is unfair to limit an item to pure RNG AND limit the time you have to try and acquire it. I’m sitting at the end of this season, lots of effort and time put in, and I may not get what I was after in the end. Again, I am not trying to complain. I am just trying to offer a solution I feel is fair if you are hearing feedback. A solution all players could utilize. Real money, in game currency, or game time and effort! I feel that encompasses everyone after in game appearances. I’m certain I’m not the first with these ideas, but here we are lol Thank you for your hard work and thank you for your time.

        • You might like it but you should play D1 and just see how much has changed. A lot of us older players just aren't happy with their sense of direction. Shadowkeep was their chance to see what they can do as a self publisher. I can say for myself that I'm not impressed and quite irritated by their lack of communication that they promised. They have made too many unexplained and or unjustified nerfs and obviously force meta shifts by purposely making some weapon types fall short. The seasonal artifact with its champion mods proves this on its own. They talk about how strong we can become and how we can build the way we want but restrict players to a certain meta for 3 months. Anything that emerges to be very effective gets nerfed without warning. Bungie also makes hidden nerfs / changes and get called out on and hardly ever comment on. The subclasses are also getting changed slowly over time as well. Dawnblade was gutted hard. Bottom tree was butchered to make the top tree effective and they haven't commented on if it's getting looked. Nightstalker tether has gotten leeched as well. Quiver has improved in strength but the other has been reduced solely because of popularity. Titans haven't been altered too much and it makes me worry that Bungie has something up their sleeves. Super regen exotics have been gutted for the most part. Diminishing returns and max super return cap? Might as well remove them because I hardly see people run them now. Skull of Dire Ahamkara has hit pretty hard because of Gambit Prime and its Reaper set. Orpheus Rig was nerfed several times because it's been the number 1 Nightstalker exotic since launch. The last one really hammered the final nail in the coffin. Phoenix Protocol was given reduced effectiveness and a super cap as well but still well off from the rest. Pretty much every reload bypass trick has been nerfed or removed by now and its a real gut puncher that they are now nerfing reload perks on guns because of, you guessed it, popularity. They didn't even bother to review the reload mods on armor before deciding to nerf them. Looking at the mod capacity power between all of the Primaries alone shows that they are priced based on popularity too. The Enhanced mods are just too expensive and the Normal versions don't seem powerful enough to even use. I could keep going but I'm just getting more and more irritated as I keep digging.

I made the effort to read this. Honestly, you are not the first (and probably not the last) player to have such a feedback. Replace October 2019 with October 2015, 2016, 2017 etc. and you will have pretty much similar complains about one big thing or another. We all have been trying to make Bungie listen but they only used to listen to top streamers or some unknown entity or did things which no one liked. Now they are listening to a new group of players which doesn't include anyone from the past. One specific reply to RNG and grinding, Bungie has, in past, given linear quests for weapons and armour which required grind and or RNG. A lot of people worked for these thing since D1 (original thorn: rng, touch of malice, sleeper, ntte, outbreak, etc.) Some NF drops back then were also good to grind (grasp). A pattern also exists in D2 (pvp and pve pinnacle wrapons). Anyways, point is that even if you do all of this, Bungie still nerfs (sunset) the weapon and you end up with same problem. The solution is not in sun setting it making new content. I always have this argument against gear retirement. A game is like a school, you move on from year to year. What you learn in maths in year 2 is still valid and you need to learn more in year 3. As you progress, the school doesn't come back to you and say 1+1 used to be 2 in year 2 but now 1+1 is 1.5 (nerf/sunset) and we are doing this to make your maths more relevant and encourage you to use quantum theory and fuzzy logic (alternate weapon) to solve your problems. That's Bungie illogical logic for me. Keep playing and 2 or 3 years later your list will just grow. It has never shrunk in the living memory of this game and the best thing Bungie has ever done to this game is to replace one problem with another so that people are distracted while reaching for the wallets...

And you dont care that all your legendary weapons save for 3 equipped across your characters you wont be able to use in any content other then quick play crucible rotators and survival? As Ive seen some confusion about sunsetting on the community hub side of steam and even had a guy try and report me for correcting him about sunsetting to the point I had provided a link to the ill-informed agent he was to the twab about it. Your armor is safe for now(its getting season 14axe according to light.gg). But dont get attached to 3 of 6 of your current load out choices my friend. They will more or less go poof not to long from now.

        • Great post!! Don't listen to all the negative players around here!! If you treat the game as a game and not a job, the game is great!! Yes, it has its flaws, but I've been playing this franchise for 5 years now and I love it!! Also, I've met a ton of awesome people!!

WestVegas you make some valid points and i agree that eververse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

            • I’m saying your wrong, but imagine if the three factions Dead Orbit, New Monarchy, and Future War Cult had unique weapons and armor. And the other venders sold weapons and armor for there respective activity. You think that would add to the game

              • Imho i like the game. It's not perfect but games rarely are. I especially love bows. Bows are something that not many games can seem to get right a lot of the time (though I would like to get better aim assist on vex crit spots for bows as they feel pretty inconsitent against vex.) Glad to see somebody who gives feedback in a polite and civil manner.

                    • Nice to read a post where someone isn't claiming that Bungie ruined their childhood...... Seriously though. Nice Idea, but the problem is that you have a community (especially here online) that is hostile to Eververse....and some are ideologically opposed to MTX of any kind. Which means Bungie tried something similar to this a couple of years ago...and it leads to a BLURRING of the lines between what is in-game loot...and what are vanity items. So it tends to INCREASE player complaints rather than reducing them. As people will tend to feel that the game "owes" them a in-game path to the item they want...that doesn't take them out of their comfort zone. So Bungie would get hit from both directions. People mad about the fact that its a microtransaction item period. Then hit from the other direction by those who are mad because the in-game path isn't something they want to do.....but they still feel entitled to the item. At just the announcement that Bungie is going to blur this line with Transmog next year, has people already loading their guns to complain, "Bungie's going to screw us over on the effort to earn these items so they can charge us money." Bungie's volunteered to step into that headache on that point. I'm not sure if its a good idea to do it on another one. Though in isolation, you're idea's a fine one.

                      • This is a prime example of FOMO. They fully intend for you to buy "item x" before it's too late and it's no longer available.

Eververse is a sticky subject, mostly for the fact that Bungie has fumbled the handling of it BADLY in the past, leaving players cynical and distrustful of it. Your idea is solid, and I’m of a similar mind. Anything in Eververse should be earnable in game, or available through very rare RNG drops. My own case in point came up a while back with the Black Peregrine. I missed the first time it was available in EV and was pretty frustrated. I’m a ship guy, I like the designs and am one of the few that cares about collecting them. It would’ve been so much more interesting instead of having the ship just be purchasable for a week in EV to also have it as a quest in game, where you learn about its history and complete activities that have some relevance to its origin or owners (this might also give Amanda a reason to exist). Yes, you can buy if you want, but you can also have a satisfying in-game experience if you’d rather have that. It’s nice to see Bungie start to add certain items back in the world if they’re thematically related, and hopefully they consider earnable options such as yours as well.

                      • Yeah, I wish there were more ways to acquire appearances for weapons and stuff. There could be some changes to the UI in regards to applying shaders and stuff along those lines to make it an easier task. Either way, I like the game too, lol.

                      • This will be a bounty grind to the bitter end, bungie are going to put the least amount of effort into this game possible.
