This game lacks exciting drop moments...

Everything is a quest. Destiny 1 was full of these moments of getting an exotic to drop and not even know if it was good or trash. Not knowing when you are going to get a great weapon creates this FUN experience of actually getting HAPPY when you get something cool to drop. Every exotic is a quest know. Oh yeah I am working to get the thorn. Yeah I already know I am going to get it I just nees to do these quest steps and I will have it. Also. Quest steps are tedious the majority of them. Community steps are just not fun at all. Because of this problem of everything being a quest, the LOOTER SHOOTER experience is being damaged because no player can feel LUCKY or in a way special for getting an exotic to drop. Finally. You have most of the player base complaining they have nothing to do. Well that is because you just gave them an X amount of quests. They tackle those in a week and there you go game over for those players. They got what they wanted. The solution to that is. Just encourage players to play whatever they want, whatever activity of the game they like by telling them "the exotic weapon you want can drop anywhere just keep playing". If you do that when that player actually gets his exotic weapon to finally drop trust me IT WILL BE FUN. And it is not going to be a never ending grind anyway. You already have a lot of bad luck protection. So yeah all players will have all the weapons which I think in an MMO is not necesarily the case but that is a topic for another post. Thanks.

    • Imo, this is because the game is oversaturated with basic damage budding perks. At this point, we know that if a gun is going to be worth using, it is going to have some sort of kill clip, rampage, outlaw, feeding frenzy, etc. and we’ve been seeing these rolls for literally years to the point where they yield no excitement. We need these perks to get nerfed. Then we need new perks, powerful and interesting ones, perks that are preferably rare, so the excitement lasts longer. Perks that can only be obtained through raids, flawless, gm nightfalls, dungeons etc. Also new exotics. No, not world drops - exotics that only drop in specific activities: raids, dungeons, flawless trials, etc. to this day the most exciting moments in destiny are when raid exotics drop and there aren’t enough of those moments.

      • Free exotics don’t feel exotic to me Yeah remember the day I got my first random drop in D1 (zhalo supercell, which I still like better then riskrunner) and it was incredible, seeing it drop from a vandal in a strike, going to the cryptarch and having no idea what exotics were even out there and then getting a arc primary that felt incredible to play with, that was the time, closest I’ve gotten to that in D2 is when got my 1000 voices drop, also when I got my jotunn drop after a ton of tries

          • Heck, remember how hard it was to get a Legendary in D1?? I remember it took me a good few months to finally get my first one, and when I did, it was the greatest thing ever! The Secret Handshake shotgun! Was my baby for awhile. Also, Legendary guns used to actually be worth their scratch. Now? Most of them function pretty much the same and are handed out to you at every turn. You'll have every Legendary within a couple months of playing this game, but in D1, I don't think I even got every Legendary.

          • Even though this game isn’t fun anymore, Funny story: Remember that Centurion Oryx took right after you landed on the Dreadnaught, then the Centurion and the taken Ogre tried to stop you from killing the King? Heh... didn't work. So the Centurion's bond brothers are pretty angry they lost their commander. They're leading a team to blow up the Dreadnaught's core. Core goes... most of the system goes with it. You're going to make sure that doesn't happen.

          • Agreed. Games like this need both random drops and directed grinds/farms. I agree Bungie has strayed too far toward weapon bounties and directed grinds, and the game is out of balance right now.

For me, when I get a god rolled legendary drop it is more a relief that the grind is over than excitement for the new weapon. Honestly the most exciting legendary drop I can remember was the last week of Opulence, I was desperately scrambling to get a god rolled sole survivor or long shadow for the day 1 raid and couldn’t get it. The night before the last day of the season I soloed a 100k nightfall for the milestone and my reward was the perk for perk perfect long shadow - Short scope, appended, triple tap, field prep, reload MW. I was very excited. Before that it was snapshot supremacy. It was the week I had gotten not forgotten in the second season it was available back when getting legend was incredibly difficult and taxing so I was already happy about that, but I needed a sniper to use it with and I was 24 last wish clears without a snapshot supremacy. On clear 25 I got it from the chest before morgeth and honestly, I jumped up and ran around my basement. Using supremacy pre nerf not forgotten in crucible was the #1 most enjoyable period of time in 5 years of this game for me. Those two stories sound good but other than that it sucks. When I FINALLY got a full bore, ricochet (back when ricochet was broken) range MW spare rations after days on end of grinding reckoning I wasn’t even that excited even though it was the best gun in the game, I was just so glad that I never had to go into reckoning ever again. When I finally got the curated twilight oath after A YEAR of mind numbing dreaming city milestones every week I wasn’t excited I was relieved to never fly to the dreaming city again. Same story when I got mindbenders, dire promise, curated emperors courtesy. The game is so brutally RNG heavy now and god roll weapons take so long to get that the happiness of getting the weapon you’ve wanted is outweighed by the desire to not have to grind anymore. Chasing a specific roll of a specific weapon in a large loot pool, or in an activity with a small chance to reward a legendary and even still that legendary being in a loot pool, is not fun. Say that I can’t handle loot based games but it is just unrewarding and frustrating to have to grind things like reckoning all day, getting one drop every 7 or 8 runs and then getting one spare rations every 2 or 3 drops. It just makes me not want to play.

              • There is a good mix of quests and RNG exotic weapons in the game. I enjoyed the Whisper, Wishender, Xenophage, Outbreak etc. exotic quests, and I enjoy the rng factor of getting some others and armour as a drop. However, what I would like to see is specific strikes to farm for exotic weapons and ones you can only get from crucible. For instance: Exotic armour or weapons that excell in Crucible should be RNG drops at the end of matches, aside from quest exotics. The same goes for exotic weapons and armour that excell at PvE but have them as targeted drops through specific strikes or planet events. All in all, I enjoy some of the quests, but the extremely grindy ones like Sleeper Simulant should be changed.

                • HECK NO. get those RANDOM DROPS OUT OF MY LIFE. I remember I played so much D1, and I didn’t even get Gjallarhorn until freaking rise of iron when the quest came out. And then Xur decided to give me Y1 Gjallarhorn from an engram the next day. And now, in D2, the only random drops are raid exotics, of which I STILL don’t have because RNG hates me or something. I prefer quests, which are challenging but actually give me a reason to do them, giving me an exotic, rather than a .01% CHANCE at an exotic.

                  • The current system we have with quests to obtain exotics is a direct result of feedback from this community in D1, everyone complained about the RNG involved in getting exotics and rightly so. Bungie decided to create a way you could deliberately earn exotics and that is how we got these quests.

                  • I1 Panter I1 you make some valid points and i agree that eververse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

                    • It took me 4 months and 79 Riven Chests to get 1KV. And it took me 150 loot drops to get crota Sparrow And it took me 33 forges to get Jötunn before it was a quest Yet I agree with you that quests are a big part of the game not having those Moments anymore. You know exactly what you'll get when doing such quests.

Bungie need a mix of both: D1's frustrations came from some people being so unlucky as to never have a powerful Exotic drop for them, while others kept getting multiples of the same one. PseudoRNG drops can be fun, but not when some people end up never getting something just because of bad PRNG. Quests take the PRNG out of the equation so anyone can get said loot if they do the quest, but Bungie could mix it up by also making random drops for those Exotics (or powerful/great Legendaries) drop from just playing other parts of the game, rather than having them all locked behind quests. The two systems should complement one another, rather than being one or the other, so that eventually everyone will be able to get all the good loot in the game, whether it's by just playing the game normally or completing a quest to get it. Maybe for certain Exotics/items that never seem to drop, the longer you go without getting said item, the more likely you will be to get a special quest to go earn that item that won't drop for you, rather than it simply being a quest everyone gets from the get-go. That way, there's still a certain PRNG element to drops, but if you're really unlucky with not ever getting certain drops, you'd have an alternate path to getting said drop which, while still PRNG, can still be earned through a random quest if you're really having a lot of trouble acquiring it. I think for a while they had something like that for Exotics in D1, but I never understood why they got rid of it: it made the Exotic feel special to get a quest geared personally to you to earn it, especially for an Exotic that you spent months hoping to have drop but never did. Also, locking things to specific quests/activities can help incentivize playing underplayed activities, but if the activities themselves aren't fun to play, no amount of loot incentive is going to make people want to grind for them, and will only cause frustration for players who simply can't stand that particular activity. Having multiple paths to getting certain items would help, but fundamentally, Bungie need to make underplayed activities more fun to play, not just lock certain loot behind it.

I think what might help this specific situation related to raids would be to add a function that grants a curated roll of a weapon first, then after you get it; drops after that are random rolls. So that way you still get the feeling of having desirable loot from these high end encounters, while also having a reason to do them again next week.

Probably because most things in the game don't have an identity anymore. Gjallarhorn had an identity Fatebringer did as well Luna's Howl, NF, and every Pinnacle/ritual gun have one. You know what is distinct about these weapons? They were static. Imagine if Fatebringer had randomrolls, how long would it have been until people decided its godroll was firefly/outlaw, now consider its low droprate, and what if it had many other perk options that just weren't as appealing. Would Fatebringer be exciting to get right then and there? No, probably not. It would probably just be another garbage Fatebringer. Here lies what led me to support Bungie's choice of static weapons before D2 launched, of course, they botched it. When a name is associated with a roll, that's when the weapon gains an identity. It's why Felwinter's Lie is the poster child of Sniper Shotguns, it was the first. Then Matador and Party Crasher came about and most likely thought them as reincarnations of the Lie (since it was "sunsetted"). People madly chased these two and reforged them like crazy, they needed the range, they wanted Felwinter's Lie back. I think this detachment from Weapon and perks is what killed drop hype. There is no reason to ever be excited at the mere sight of a gun dropping when it's stats are random and likely trash or not what you're after. Static Rolls could have been the solution to this, but as Bungie would have it, they depreciated loot quality tremendously and did not make enough weapons to retain the weapon drop RNG that would make RR not feel gone. A simpler way to look at it is that Destiny's loot (gun) problem might only be solved by static rolls, and an absolute shit ton of weapons, I'm talking borderlands 3 level. You know, it's "millions" of guns? Such millions that lots appear as variations of a single archetype. This would require Bungie to really be able to put out instead of having a slot machine built into each gun. On the bright side though, Should another Fatebringer come to light and everyone wants it, you'll know when you get it and will be excited to see.
