so here's my "why i left" answer bungie wanted

before i start, i would like to say that i have been playing since d1 day 1. now obviously it isnt the same game anymore and there is no more fun to be had. and just because iv been playing for a long time dont mean that my opinions are the only thing that matters. i think i figured out why i wont be playing anymore there is no story. the lore is great, but i didn't buy a video game to read now did i? and what little story there is, its stretched out into ridiculous 1 mission a week now (if any at all.) the main dlc's had most of the story but all they ever do is introduce cool ideas, and leave them there never to touch it again, to a completely different universe, with a different big bady, that is barely connected if at all, and here lately, the only connection they have i cant remember because it was so boring. it misses the mark in every box.switching to seasons was one of the biggest downfalls. free to play, while great for most MMO's, it wont work here. everybody knows destiny is the most popular when new dlc's drop. but nobody cares anymore, since your seasonal model is so baren and un-interesting. not to mention all new light players are immediately confused on what the hell is going on. f2p came out half baked. plain and simple. pvp has always been a gimmick to me. nothing against the best of the best, but how can you take the game into a "competitive" scene if its still peer to peer? not to mention thanks to f2p there are cheaters in every single lobby. AND IM NOT EVEN GOOD! i freaking suck! pve has suffered a lot. whats the point? the new best thing is just the same old things reskinned... nothing new. any builds you can come up with is just straight up over kill for all the enemies, or just freaking dumb. boss stomp still is a thing. constant nerfs to everything to the point i dont even care anymore. no new strikes since shadowkeep and it had what? 2? in an entire year? cool! where is the difficulty option we had in d1 for literally everything? i miss being able to choose how hard a story mission is, or maybe a hardmode patrol area? loot. its all the same, sure sunsetting is coming and people defend it, but the reality is, nothing will make me care about a reskin of a reskin, of a gun i once had, then had nerfed, sunset, then forced to regrind. nothing new or interesting just more of the same. overall, this game cant deliver what i wanted it to be. its happy being mediocre. and thats ok, but when a dev team thinks i want to play destiny 2 on my phone using stadia... i know its been to long since they actually played a game, only ever make them. in between mtx's and marketing. bugs/glitches, lack of foresight, and no singular direction for them game has truly killed the game for me. if any of these changes are addressed and fixed. i might hop in, but i will never buy the seasons, il just use the f2p version, that honestly i feel most people do. and its hurting bungie, and bad. anyways, maybe some of you guys can relate, and im sure people will call this -blam!- and moaning. but im not gonna answer bungies stupid questionnaire on why i left, since theres too much to be said. i hope everything works out for you guys. but i play games for fun, not as a job, i know shocker. peace out!

    • I deeply miss the mystery of D1, and they just keep solving more and more of the lore. Which in my opinion has ruined not only D2 but D1 as well.

    • Well said. Unfortunately no matter how often and how many people voice their opinions. Bumgie just doesn’t give 2 shits. The fun has gone. In D1 I had FUN!

    • LMAO been D1 day one on Xbox and switched to PS4 before d2. They won't be sending me a letter though. I've been banned on this stupid ass forum so many times I lost count. Best part is I'm deleting the App and the game off my console. They can shove both up their collective asses. To the asshole power tripping moderator who obviously is a punk -blam!-. -blam!- YoU now ban me again I won't know

    • I agree with you on all the points made. D1 Was Better. I will grind out Thorn, Redrix's Broadsword, Randy's Throwing Knife, and Lunas Howl. Once I do that and finish Unbroken then I will get all my characters to at least 1000. When my goals are met Im going back to Destiny 1 and doing Crotas End til I complete Necrochasm. Once Im done with playing I might sit back and watch all new DLC's on youtube just to see where the story goes. The game is dying. Thanks F2P, New Guys, and Sunset, Those actually all go hand in hand those last three.

    • Next season is the last chance Bungie is going to get from me. The summer content has to be masterful for me to purchase the new DLC. Imo this is the worst point in all of Destiny's history. Even in times when content is dry such as Season of the Drifter I always had something to do in Destiny. Now I load up the game, stare at my director and think about what I am going to do. I then realize there is nothing to do and I load up a different game. (Usually D1 lol)

    • I remember on reset, that evening the guys would all hop on and we’d run our nightfalls to get the badass blue flames and a chance at an exotic, then run VoG, Crotas End, then take on Oryx. There was something special about getting stuff back then and you enjoyed every moment of it. Droughts happened but it kept you engaged even in those. Spring updates were meaningful, opening faction engrams, vendor resets, gunsmith tasks, and just an overall pride in the product. It feels just hollow now. It used to be a favorite way to unwind after a long day, but now it isn’t even enticing.

      • Yeah, sadly this is exactly how i feel. So many years invested in this game but completely unmotivated now, especially since the announcement of sunsetting. The only reason i jump back on now is for new story (but we know how little that is) and a couple of my mates started playing. But they both said, on different occasion, that if it wasn’t for me they would be lost.

        • Seasonal content model "time locking" is a joke, I understand there maybe some technical difficulties with keeping certain content permanently in the game, but if this franchise wants to compete it needs a massive overhaul for its next title. MMOs have plenty of content packs and DLCs (both free and paid) that are not time locked and can be accessed WHENEVER you want, no matter if you're just starting out as a newbie or if you're a returning player, so long as you own the relevant pass or the DLC expansion, you can play it. What I'm trying to say is, that content does not expire and its yours...to keep, FOREVER! You don't miss any of the previous story content or rewards and you don't suffer from FOMO. A good example of why this is bad, I left D2 between Forsaken and just before the first season of content dropped (think it was the season of the drifter or whatever). When I finally decided to jump back into D2 a few months ago after almost 1 year away, it left me confused and frustrated! Where is all the story content from the previous seasons? Who is the drifter? What happened in the Black Armory? Who is Siviks? How did Saint 14 return? How do I access the Sundial? What are the corridors of time? Why is the Almighty crashing down upon us? I'll never know because I missed those seasons and all the related story quests, armor, weapons.... Etc because it was time locked. I had absolutely no idea what was going on! I had to look it up on Google or YouTube! Imagine how all this would look to a new player? Or, worse, a returning player? They're going to be bored and confused AF! I then logged out and jumped onto ESO, an MMORPG after about a year of not playing that too. I have the paid "eso+" membership which means all the content is "free" and available no matter where I am in the game, I quite easily caught up with the story from their previous year long storyline expansions and was satisfied to know I could take my time playing through it and had even more content and side quests to dig into further in. The only time locked content that I missed out on was all cosmetic things, which is fine. Locking story content behind a seasonal model or a "battle pass" and then removing it after the season is over is a terrible idea and will only make this game's life span even shorter! Both the quantity and quality of the content needs to be improved and not time locked.

          • Sunsetting is simply forced regrinding of existing gear recolored and rewrapped. New content is removing old content then having you grind for it again. No thanks...

            • Gotta agree with most of this. Came back after a long break a few weeks ago, burned through most of the stuff I'd want to do already, and the pinnacle rewards only 1 light level at a time is so annoying and duplicates so frequent (5/6 of them I've done this week have been duplicates), it isn't even worth the time to finish. Add sunsetting to that? No thanks.

I'm with you. I feel the lack of campaign is the main issue. Bungie is not moving the story forward in a direction. There are lores but how many get all lores, reads and remembers them? Sell the lore as a e-book, but this is an action game. The end-game is just plain grinding, grinding, grinding of reskinned events. Horde event after horde event. The sunsetting is a lame excuse. It is Bungies way of selling the same things again to the players, forcing re-grind. It will be the same stuff we previously had, with some different textures on the 3D models. It is not new content, it is just more or less a cosmetic change that will not do any good to the game nor the players. It will however - irritate the large playerbase even more. I wish Destiny would have more content, more story, more exploration, more in-game videos of the main characters. I enjoyed the exploration, looking around the corner, feeling a progression in rewards as well as story, it felt I got better, and I got rewarded for it. But everything is now forced on mods, horde modes, killing other guardians, and time limit events. I think the spirit of the game left long ago, the Seasonal model was just the last long nail in the coffin. We are just stomping on the same grounds, doing the same things in the game every season. I do not feel rewarded doing the same horde mode activity day in and day out, the enemies awaiting in the same place every day. All there is, is chasing a higher number. How fun is that when you've done it 1000000 times? I respect those who feel different about the game, there are players chasing the best roll, the best mod combinations, having fun with long-time friends doing Raids etc. I'm a casual player, though, and for me it is not much left in the game that I used to enjoy, and I played D1 from Day 1.

            • I left because I got tired of having to do the same thing every week for a few light levels. I used to play every Friday and Saturday nights but I got tired of getting prime engrams for 1 light level over what I already had equipped. I loved Destiny, I just got tired of spending all of my the trying to get to max light.

XxGodofch33s3xX you make some valid points and i agree that eververse should be removed from this game. But Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

So. Spent an hour or so on Mars yesterday and today, two Escalation Protocols to Level 7, one to Level 3 or 4 before everyone else left, one Strike, both Lost Sectors, and my % completion for this week's Flashpoint IS STILL AT ZERO. Even if it were still fun, Bungie, playing your dysfunctional and unsupported crap is not particularly rewarding, and being killed by melee enemies THAT DON'T EVEN SHOW UP ON MY RADAR WHILE THEY DISMANTLE ME is a teeny weeny bit frustrating. I did, however, learn that three Thralls that are invisible on radar can take me from full health to dead in less than two seconds even though that's not mathematically possible, so thanks for that. Edit: Just now logged on, and without doing a damn thing my Flashpoint progress has advanced to 5%. Thanks so much, Bungie. At this rate, I should finish this week's Flashpoint by June 23rd.

              • My 2 biggest issues with the game is 1. Lack of campaign and story content 2. The end game is devoid of inspiration and aspiration (oh look a harder nightfall with shielded enemies I need a mod for!!! Let's call it maestro mega elite epic nightfall!) There are a lot of other issues too that add up. Like the slow decline of the power fantasy, terrible or out right useless upgrade and infusion economies, a terrible grind for reward loop, a terrible lazy meta.... I really ignore a lot of the non content content seasonal stuff and still enjoy gambit and crucible...the play..theres really no reason to grind except the joy of braining an opposing guardian with a weapon no one expects from the vault or invading and wiping teams. That's all I have left.

              • Are you my clone? I feel the same exact way, as does our entire clans. Nobody can even bring themselves back to get the lie quest or exotic now. People have just quit it cold turkey. I knew that if I ever got to this point, I would be gone for a long time. Yesterday I took D2 off my PC and will probably remove it from the PS4 soon. I just can't bring myself to even bother with it anymore. The fun factor is so far gone that its unreal.

              • Agreed. I also cannot help but feel Bungie has kicked Destiny to the curb, left to just string us along with as little content as possible to fund Matter. Not a lot of talk about that, but if I’m Bungie I’m thinking I’ve screwed up Destiny to a point of no return, but there’s enough of the community that are suckers to keep giving us money regardless of the garbage we feed them. I like to think most of us have common sense and realize it’s time to stop giving Bungie money, have an immediate impact, do not pre-order or purchase the new season until it’s reviewed and proves it deserves our money. They will he forced to take action. Bungie has become COMPLACENT and LAZY, let them know that, stop giving them money.
