The Speaker is a regular man, but with an abnormal connection to the Traveler that lets them kind of get dreams from it. The Light is a paracausal force (basically energy that doesn’t really obey the laws of reality) generated by the Traveler. It’s used for energy, power, Guardian healing, etc. It basically has infinite potential and some people have gone pretty crazy with it. Osiris can generate copies of himself. Kabr punched a hole through time and space to make a relic that could kill Atheon, the immortal embodiment of time itself. We can teleport short distances with it or conjure storms and vortexes of destructive power, make physical manifestations/projections of objects and weapons, etc. We still don’t know the possibilities of a Ghost choosing a new Guardian because of Bungie deliberately avoiding it and throwing out confusing/contradicting lore. Each Ghost has an ideal match for a Guardian (though they can choose to revive any unrevived person who has the Light) and once they revive their Guardian they are bound together. And yes, there are still cats and you can even see some in the Tower.

Welcome to the community! 1. We don't know exactly how the light works but essentially it's a paracausal power within the galaxy that can create countless things. The Light is also the name of an entity often referred to as the Gardner, but that's a story for another day 2. When a Ghost revives their Guardian for the first time they are bound to that Guardian and no one else. The bond between a Guardian and it's Ghost is the topic of much interest 3. The traveler doesn't choose it's speaker, rather every once and awhile a human is born that can "communicate" with the traveler through dreams and thoughts (and are often a magnet for random ghost's). I recommend reading the constellations lore book for further information 4. No actually, they're regular people however there's nothing preventing a Guardian from being a speaker 5. Technically? The light can do a lot of stuff, its essentially space magic that can do almost whatever you want it to 6. Yes, many. You can find one in the tower near Hawthorne

Yes there are live cats in destiny. As for the ghosts reviving other guardians its a bit unclear. If you read the lore for the last word we can see the shin malphur was chosen by jaren ward's ghost, so yes I guess?
