Bungie just isn’t being honest with us.

Obviously there has been a lot of talk about sun setting and whether is will be good or bad for the game and I wanted to add my two cents. Personally, I’m not sure where I stand; the idea of adding variety to the weapon pool is a great concept, but making guns (and armor) that took tens upon hundreds of hours to get a perfect roll suddenly obsolete seems wrong. In spite of all of this I’m really worried about Bungie’s lack of honesty in all of this. They made it sound like your gear would still be usable in “most activities” (very specific of them I know). At first this statement made me feel good as I thought it was cool that I could still use my old gear, but then I actually thought about it. I sat down yesterday and thought up a list of all of the activities you WILL NOT be able to use your old gear in, and it’s kind of sad: -Nightfall Obviously you can play the easy ones but the ones that give good loot will be impossible. -Trials of Osiris -Iron Banner If you have ever played these activities with or against people even 50 light under you it is seriously comical to watch them try to win gunfights. -Gambit This one is minor, but light does make a difference in your ability to kill enemies, so why not use a gun that consistently kills faster? Old weapons will be obsolete very fast. -Most new content I’m not sure how much content will be added, but the more that is, the less you will be able to use your gear. New content has consistently had light recommendations on them (even things like Seraph Towers) and your gear will be irrelevant here. -New Raids/Dungeons Yes this fits with the last category but it is a crucial part of the game. In my opinion this is the most exciting thing Destiny 2 has to offer but all expansions that add raids or dungeons will definitely require you to ditch your old gear. So what will I be able to play? Control? The strikes playlist? Wow Bungie, I’m so excited to use my old gear in these revolutionary playlists! And you might say “oh just do the old content and everything will be viable” but why? Where is the incentive now? If I know I will get worse gear, I will avoid that activity, there is no reason to play it. A couple friends and I wanted to to Leviathans for the first time since launch and nobody else wants to play since the gear has been phased out and the “fun” is not enough to outweigh hours spent on useless gear. In all seriousness, the sun setting system might not be awful, but with how they proposed it I’m worried that they seriously believed that what was left was truly “most” of the game which would mean they have made grave calculations about how old gear would function. Please stop suffocating your game Bungie, we just want to have fun and not have countless hours spent seen wasted by lazy and poorly thought out changes. Note: Please correct me if anything I said was wrong or I missed any activities. I want to make sure this is an accurate and complete post (unlike Bungie apparently shoutout Felwinter quest lol). Thanks! EDIT: Here is the exact quote from TWAB “Reaching the player Power Cap is beneficial, but not strictly required, for most activities in Destiny. You can continue to equip and use all gear in these activities.”

As a gambit player, and one who recently went against ll 1000s as a 960 just to see the difference, using throttled gear will be a death sentence and a wet noodle slap when being invaded/invading. You will NOT be able to use old throttled gear in gambit without taking a HUGE hit on your survivability and damage output during invasions. Its one of the reasons why i quit.

    • Here’s everything you can do with sunset weapons: Quickplay Comp Heroic strikes Low level Nightfalls Old nightfalls Old raids Old dungeons Old secret missions Old campaign missions New campaign missions Old patrol areas The new patrol area (once your high enough lvl) Forges Reckoning Menagerie And old events like Blind Well and Escalation Protocol Will they be usable in the majority of new content? No and that’s the point of sunsetting. However we have to remember that new content is not the majority of the game. Is it the most active? Definitely but a majority? I don’t think it is. I think it’s like a 70/30 split. You can use sunset weapons in about 70% or the total game.

      •
They made it sound like your gear would still be usable in “most activities”
When did they do that?

        • If sunsetting goes ahead the reckoning armor that has abilities made specifically for gambit prime will be a handicap in gambit prime.

          • Now list all the activities you can use your old gear in. And let's compare the 2 lists
