If I can't earn heir apparent, what happens to it?
I have played little to no destiny 2, been playing Yakuza 0 (Great game totally reccomend)
If I don't earn the LMG, what happens to it?

I imagine it will be the same as thunderlord and arbalest. You will probably be able to get it from xur next season.
