I'm against weapon retirement (current system)

This is all personal preference, so I realise this might not be possible or be a widely shared perspective across the community. The way a weapon looks to me is a determining factor if I use it or not; and for the past three years of this game, I've been curating a collection of weapons and armor that is tailored to my playstyle and my desired look. The system that we have currently (all weapons being viable) allows me to choose weapons from across all three years of this game to play with. Weapon retirement will reduce the number of weapons that are viable in content across the game. However, there are weapons whose traits already overlap amongst themselves: spare rations has the possibility to roll with traits similar to midnight coup. This leads to two things: a bloated loot pool where items naturally become obsolete, and more weapon designs are introduced while others are phased out. If you are like me, you've become attached to your weapons; more specifically, how they look. A universal weapon ornament system would allow for players to chose what weapon model they like, and apply it to any weapon of the same type (as long as the two models have matching animations). This would exclude exotics since they need to standout from all the other weapons, but this system would allow players to chose any model, common through legendary, and apply that model to their weapon. Of course, many just see this as reskinning weapons; and it is. However, the current weapon ornament system is very limited. An ornament is purchased, and then applied to a specific weapon. This system would allow you to chose any weapon model you've previously obtained and apply it to a weapon; no purchasing specific ornaments. Or if bungie needs to monetize this some way, require only 100 bright dust to change the appearance/upgrade the weapon to take universal ornaments. This system would need to come along with other substantial content. I believe this would help the weapon retirement system go more smoothly, as players can get the new loot, but make it look the way they want it to.
