Thoughts From a Vet: How Destiny is Deteriorating

Hey all. I don't want this to be a toxic post, I want it to raise awareness because this forum already has so many people complaining. I want bungie to take a look at this and say "wow this guy has some insight, so maybe he knows what he's talking about." Then they could do something to change the state of their game. I have a bit of credibility since I have over 1,500 hours playing the game, so I am a bit familiar with it. That said, you can see how much I care about this game. I want it to thrive because I enjoy the community it brings, and its overall joy factor. Lets begin. Casual PvP: First and foremost I classify myself as a PvP enthusiast. I believe it is what makes Destiny so unique. You can take the weapons that you earn from the other aspect of the game (PvE) and use them to dominate the crucible. Or, you can take a different route, and go in with a silly loadout that you think is fun and just mess around. Thats why destiny is so fun. It doesn't limit you to one loadout. Sure, you may do worse with the other loadout, but at least you gave it a try. It is apparent to me that while using the joke loadout, you would get stomped by those going full tryhard in classic mix, which is just supposed to be an easy going game mode. Thats the bad thing. People going in and stomping others who just want to have fun. I acknowledge that the most casual players would have a rough time in PvP. I do not know the remedy to this. Some are just meant to play PvE, or just do not care enough about PvP to spend time getting good at it. This said, we do have to talk about competitive PvP, for those who do enjoy playing, but match up against the best of the best players. Trials. Trials of Osiris: Wow. This gamemode is quickly deteriorating much to my sadness, because I was one of the players who kept grinding hour after hour to go flawless back in D1. The feeling of elation I experienced when i reached the lighthouse was like no other. When we won our flawless game, I screamed so loud my mother thought I was getting attacked. Now, after so long of it being gone, some do not care about its return. It doesn't help that the incentive to play it is so small. Every Youtuber has pretty much summarized why its bad and how it hurts the more casual players (the tokens). Right now it is a terrible system overall with no real reason of going flawless besides getting an emblem. This means you attempted to cater towards casual players being able to get as much rewards as the seasoned players, but by implementing the tokens, you have caused the better players to just stomp the lower players because you can just farm tokens at low wins. It hurts going up against a top 1% player on your first match. Reverting back to the D1 system completely would be a bandage for this problem while you try to remedy it further (fixing the special ammo economy, look at Grenader Jakes video if you're curious). Speaking about special ammo, we need to buff primaries. Special weapons dominate too much without too many things to counter them too easily. D1 had a pretty good thing going with how quickly they were able to kill since the special weapons could 1 shot. You can't challenge a lane without fear of getting domed immediately by a sniper, or just walk into the open without fear of a fusion rifle (yes they are still VERY good), or get too close without getting one shot by an antaeous wards titan with a shotgun. Its a problem. I got tired of writing and I will probably add to this a PvE section soon, but in the meantime lets hear your guys thoughts. I don't know if this is exactly what I envisioned I would make but hey, lets see.

  • Not trying to be toxic, but Bungie has this game well thought out in advance, and any meaningful changes to feedback being reviewed right now, will probably not be implemented for a while. I think that's where the toxicity comes from. People don't know how to wait. No offense to Bungie, but people are right though, this season is lame. Too similar to last season, only with less interesting weapons, and a high level PvP activity that alienates a large portion of the playerbase instead of the Sundial.
