Except for 16m+ players Destiny never was free. If you played since D1 it's cost over £450 and that's before eververse. Using the £10 for a season pass argument doesn't wash either, Forsakens annual pass cost £30 for 3 seasons that dropped 2 raids, several pve activities and exotics ect. Previous Annual passes were roughly £15 per dlc content drop. The problem is Bungie feel that releasing content at a steady release makes up for lack of quality. This FOMO attitude was never going to work, using temporary seasons to progress the narrative of a PvE story driven game was the worst decision Bungie made and that's saying alot. Bungie should have cut back the rate in which it was going to drop content, twice a year would have been suffice, as long as the quality was good. The live team could still have created seasonal events to liven things up a little, Vex offensive, Sundial, Seraph bunkers could easily have been fun events that didn't impact the wider Destiny narrative and keeping players engaged. Whilst allowing the core team to concentrate of proper story driven dlc release every 6 months.

 • They couldn't pump out that kind of content every 6 months though. Or at least that's what they said

 •
Or at least that's what they said
Yet again more misinformation from Bungie. Yet their employees are bemoaning about even more stringent deadlines ect nowadays and how everything has to be signed off by LS. I get they struggle to push out content every 3/4 months, their engine is archaic and belongs in a museum. With D1 yr1 it was easier, same with D2 yr1 because they already had the content there from pre D1 and D2 launch. Now hear me out on how I think D2 year 3 should've been implemented. Shadowkeep on its own as was. During the first 6 months the live team could've launched the vex offensive public events building upto the next DLC which would've launched at what was the beginning of this season in March. This dlc should've had the story missions relating to the Undying Mind (which would've been a strike) and last seasons stories that led to the rescuing of Saint-14 (could have modified his final mission into a strike) and restoration of the Lighthouse which would still have given Bungie the platform to launch Trials. The current Seraph towers could have been implemented as public events midway through the season leading to the next dlc which should've been focused on reconnecting the bunkers to defend against the Almighty and whatever the next seasons dlc will be about. This would've done several things, given Bungie more time to develop content and safely test it for bugs, allowed their live team to create ongoing events periodically. Give players the opportunity to come back and replay content that drives forward the ongoing narrative of the Destiny journey, whenever they choose, especially and most importantly cut down on the FOMO and bounty grind burnout.

 • You’re forgetting that with every new season comes a whole lot of new Eververse content... Bungie can’t say no to replenishing the eververse every 3 months on top of newer limited content once an seasonal event comes along.... on top of the whole “it’s free so stop complaining” bs, remember when people were like “Activision is to blame”...... To think Destiny’s downfall is literally Bungie doing it all on their own.... sad times
