Anti-Barrier Sidearm & SMG

This crap seriously makes me NOT enjoy the game. I wouldn’t mind it if I had at least one longer range option. I don’t know if you know this but in higher end content with champions, getting too close leads to you getting melted and staying away means pumping out no damage due to the abysmal damage fall off of these close-range weapons! This crap seriously takes the wind out of my sails and is one of the MANY things making this game crazy boring right now. These last two seasons can be summed up as “Season of the Nerfs” and “Season of the Bounties”. Bring back the fun!!! It’s like y’all are catering to streamers only. Some of us can give a damn about Trials, PvP in general, or the incessant use of meta weapons. I like a challenge as much as the next person but I don’t enjoy getting melted by pools of arc energy or getting stomped by Majors & Ultras because I’m forced to get close enough to smell their bad breath or be forced to use the same damn Ariana’s Vow on all three characters over and over again. That shit is BORING!!! Edit 1: Some of y’all seem to be confused. Nobody complaining is crying that it’s too hard. What we’re saying is that our loadout are too restrictive and thus boring. We don’t like being told exactly what to use and when to use it.

  • They say they’re not promoting double primary load outs but seasonal pass mods say otherwise. You can run a side arm, SMG, AR or a hand cannon. This is badly beaten dead horse at this point. They refuse to allow exotics to accept those mods which creates lack of choice for builds. I’m running a simple arc build on my warlock. I use Monte Carlo in primary to get my melee back quickly for those big orange orbs to drop. No mod in it as it’s an exotic AR and also no catalyst for masterworking so less orbs to bump anything in the build period. I’m running loaded question in special which also has no seasonal mod. I could run a shotgun or sniper but alas no mod there either so opt for reservoir burst for quick add clear. And in my heavy I’m running Stryker Sure Hand with the disruption mod. The build is simple and effective unless I’m dealing with champions. Yep just like sunsetting weapons will allow me to run patrols at one point or play quick play but not really do anything else after our light level has risen after a year. They have to rethink the way they do things. I’d run my new Warlock Felwinter Helm but that’s disabled for working to well. Yep good stuff. Off to do a 1000 new bounties.

    • What sucks most of all is when a barrier champion servitor shields the overload champions and several god tier Vandal snipers that can 2 tap you at 1017+. Or when 2 side by side overload captain champions that teleport spam and can still shoot you while they are in mid teleport. Swing a sword, gone. Spam fire while teleporting. Dead Good times.

          I only had a problem soloing the legendary seraph instance when my light level was 985 and below. After that, yes, the instance took time as you carefully take out the mobs one by one then closed in on the champion to use the sidearm/submachine gun then rushed him with a sword. That was my tactic. The hardest bit was when a servitor protected the mobs around it and had a barrier but that's still doable with the right approach. It's pointless having strong enemies that any old tactic can defeat because then, they're just not a challenge.

          • Sidearms melt. They're really good in pve and pvp. Plain and simple, I really dislike having to use certain weapons to equip barrier mods. Certain weapons don't appeal to me, and I don't find it fun to use those weapons.

              • I’m stuck with using better devils with over or unstop Eriannas vow And a sword All the other options don’t seem to have as much damage. This months choices are lacklustre to say the least.

                You mean a sidearm that has a good 20-30 feet before the dmg fall off starts is still to close to the enemy? Sounds to me like you are just to used to killing stuff with hand cannons and snipers and need to learn how to play with sidearms cuz sidearms are -blam!-ing awesome. And they give you more than enough distance to deal with champions.

                • We went from hand canon, AR, smg in season 8 which was kinda balanced in range, to scouts and pulses and bows which is rather long range but you could make it work in close range with 540 pulses To the most stupid mix of side arms and smg, both having about 20m range I'm amazed at how nobody in the team didn't think this will bring a massive advantage to pc players over console users, as I can shoot a side arm from hip from sniper range on PC

                  Put these mods in as a normal mod we can choose are load out not told what to use and how to play. Being told which weapons depending on these mods spoils are abilities to play how we want and like to play. The game is for us all and we all don’t play the same or like to. So please remove them from season and just give us the mods to use as we see fit. It’s not like we don’t need them just let us decide what guns or swords or bows let me put on what I like cheers

                  • To me, close rage weapons have been the only thing that have worked at taking those shields down... I’ll never forget my horrid time using the bow and scout anti-barrier mod.

                    • I agree. Given these CQC weapons we are forced to use team shotting and hiding behind cover much more than in previous seasons. Honestly if I want to peak shoot I’ll go play Div 2. I want to be a bad ass space guardian so allow me to use whatever I want and quit dictating what has to be used in endgame!

                        I say remove these mods or let me play with a shotgun, sniper whatever with anti barrier etc. God, I hate bungies restrictions to play a weapon I don‘t like. Why force me to play with sidearm or a smg? They have literally no clue about their own game

                          • Encounter design can be expensive, this is the lazy, low budget response to achieve the goal, player time wasted. Fun obviously isn't a priority.

                                I do agree the anti barrier mods this season are on arc types I do not like in the least. Well I like Tarrabah but I cant put an anti barrier mod in their so yea...... Could have been worse, we got Hand Cannons. I just dont like smgs(but Tarrabah), bows, and side arms. The rest of the weapon types I enjoy. I dont mind personally having to use Eriana's Vow when I have to, but if you want to engage barrier champions from a safe distance I totally agree you get pigeon holed into Eriana's Vow. Watch Bungie reads this post as "So what your saying is nerf vow? We are on it!"

                                  I solo'd the Legendary Lost Sector (Crew Quarters) x3 last night. Settled on Outbreak Perfected for range and ads, Traveller's Judgement for anti barrier and an Overloaded sword. Chaos Reach still took out the void shielded Servitors. Used the Valkyrie at the end a few times. A bit long winded but easy enough. <shrugs>

                                • With the larger barrier champs you need to use high burst damage. For example. If youre getting sprayed down by a barrier champion while trying to use an arcstrider..that's not going to work. Switch to goldie with extra damage and celestial with a shotgun. Golden gun him, pop shield with smg, shotgun till dead. Swords work very well also. I was trying to solo the legendary lost sector Crew Quarters yesterday as a dawnblade and couldnt do it. Switched to nova and made it happen relatively easy.

That shit is BORING!!![/quote] I will say it didn’t take much “testing” for me to figure out that it’s hard to find a weapon that does enough high DPS at close range to trigger the shield, so I can pour most of a clip to drop it, and then be in reload animation with a low DPS weapon at close range while the champion is in its stun animation.

                                  • I’m guessing you’re talking about grandmaster ordeal since all the others should be pretty easy to defeat for you by now. If not, I can give you some advise that works for me. I form a strategy for each combination I’ve encountered so far.
