Turns out the Bungie CoC is actually pretty good, it's the Ninjas who ruin it for everybody by making up their own rules

So the Bungie code of conduct is actually pretty short and doesn't mention a lot of rules. The only things listed as forbidden are: 1. Personal attacks, harassment, or violations of privacy. 2. Disrespect for any reason: race, creed, gender, orientation, or disability. 3. Depiction or description of gory violence or explicit sexuality. 4. Breaking the law, plotting, or describing illegal activities. 5. Spoiling games with hacks, cheats, or unreleased story details. 6. Distributing unauthorized, copyrighted, or trademarked material. 7. Soliciting, plagiarism, phishing, or impersonating other users. These rules are simple, easy to follow, and a good standard to judge by. The only issue is that the Ninjas DO NOT use these rules when moderating the forums. For some rules, they just willingly misinterpret them, and for some they just make up entirely new rules. For example, a personal attack is explained on the CoC explanation page as "any negative statement or insult about the character, traits, nature, qualities, or abilities of another user". Taking this statement literally, ANY negative comment of ANY kind towards ANY person is grounds for a ban. Even something as simple as "you don't know what you're talking about", "you aren't doing a good job", or "your idea is stupid" is enough to get you banned based on the Ninja's interpretation of the CoC. This extended Ninja explanation is also where the "no name and shame" rule comes from. It's considered "harassment" to call out blatant cheaters even if you don't interact with the cheater in question in any way, which is a prerequisite to actually harass a person. The Ninjas go on to say that it's irrelevant what the person you're calling out is doing, it's YOU who's the problem for calling attention to any person, not the person you're calling out. It's also worth noting that the famous "Threads about other locked threads will also be locked" rule not only doesn't appear anywhere in the CoC, it isn't once mentioned in the extended Ninja explanation either, because threads about other locked threads DON'T BREAK ANY RULES. Ninjas just made that rule up out of thin air so they have an excuse to lock threads that call them out for not following their own rules (kind of like this one). One final thing. This thread will probably end up getting me banned by the ninjas again or at least just locked (probably by Spawn), so I'm interested to see what rule they cite for a ban. But I bet won't be made public, and I suspect the "rule" they say I broke will just be "violating the CoC" because they can't find a real rule to get rid of me with but need an excuse to ban me. You all have a voice, don't let the ninjas silence you. They can't ban everybody.
Taking this statement literally, ANY negative comment of ANY kind towards ANY person is grounds for a ban.
We taking the Code of Conduct very seriously (we encourage everyone to do the same), and yes, being negative towards others (or groups of others) will get your privilege's removed. If you're on the fence of posting something because you're not sure if it violates the Code of Conduct or not, my recommendation is to not post it, as outlined in the Code of Conduct.
This extended Ninja explanation is also where the "no name and shame" rule comes from. It's considered "harassment" to call out blatant cheaters even if you don't interact with the cheater in question in any way, which is a prerequisite to actually harass a person
There doesn't have to be a form of "interaction" directly (in game or otherwise) to quality for harassment on bungie.net. Simply sharing and targeting individuals is enough to get yourself removed, as this will create "dogpiling" where no one has actually interacted with the individuals, but everyone is contributing to harassing the individual(s). All forms of harassment is strictly prohibited here, as this has always been the case. Calling out individuals that may or may not be violating the terms of service is just drawing attention to a situation where no one has the tools to prove otherwise. For specifics of "cheating", which seems to be the common trend these days, you nor I have tools to prove guilty or innocent, that's all on Bungie and why we encourage simply reporting them and moving on, let Bungie handle it. I highly encourage you to read through their own thread regarding cheating (seriously, look through it) and a couple other threads here and here for Naming/Shaming specifically. The forums are not a battleground for players to define cheating and/or make accusations against specific individuals.
because threads about other locked threads DON'T BREAK ANY RULES
Oh, but they do. We lock threads for a variety of reasons, but I would like to mention and assure you that, no, we do not "make up" our own rules here. We follow the policies set forth from our hosts (Bungie). Specifically on locked threads, threads about locked threads generally violate two things : 1. Harassment on who/the situation the thread is in regards to. 2. Privacy and Disruption. Individuals that receive violations may, at any time, contact a Forum Ninja for more information regarding their own violation. Continuing to create these threads not only can cause harassment or privacy issues, but also disrupts the flow of conversation, all of which are against the Code of Conduct. If you want even more specifics right from the Code of Conduct and Terms of Use itself (the long version), here are a couple statements you should make sure to read :

This Code of Conduct ("CoC") and the Bungie.net Terms of Use ("ToU") apply to all parts of the Bungie.net website, including private groups and private messages. As the owner of Bungie.net, Bungie has the right to remove you and/or any content you post from this website for any reason or no reason, in its own discretion. The Bungie.net moderating team may occasionally update the CoC or other guidelines, so we advise that you periodically review the CoC and pinned threads to stay up to date.
https://www.bungie.net/en/Groups/Post?groupId=121&postId=162456429&sort=0&page=0&path=0&showBanned=0
Bungie reserves the right to moderate this website and everything on it. You are here to contribute to the conversation, not to derail it. Any attempts to interfere with the discussion here will be removed. These guidelines require your best judgment, so please play nice. If you're not sure if the stuff you're about to share is appropriate for Bungie.net, don’t post it. That'll help you stay clear of the Banhammer's blast radius.
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/Legal/CodeOfConduct
Bungie has no obligation to monitor the Communication Services. However, Bungie reserves the right to review materials posted to a Communication Service and to remove any materials in its sole discretion. Bungie reserves the right to terminate your access to any or all of the Communication Services at any time without notice for any reason whatsoever.
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/Legal/Terms
USE OF COMMUNICATION SERVICES The Bungie Services may contain bulletin board services, chat areas, news groups, forums, communities, personal web pages, calendars, and/or other message or communication facilities designed to enable you to communicate with the public at large or with a group (collectively, "Communication Services"), you agree to use the Communication Services only to post, send and receive messages and material that are proper and related to the particular Communication Service. By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree that when using a Communication Service, you will not: Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others.
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/Legal/Terms

One final thing. This thread will probably end up getting me banned by the ninjas again or at least just locked (probably by Spawn)
We absolutely encourage healthy debate if you disagree on different topics, however, threads that result in disrespect, harassment, defaming or otherwise, will quickly find themselves removed. Lastly, if you do believe that a moderator is out of line or violating the Code of Conduct themselves, you're more than welcome to message Duardo, Cozmo, or dmg04.
