My friend is being threatened and harassed by a Ddoser and his friends

Hi, to start off, I want to say that I don't plan on name dropping, posting videos or links to images. I don't want to start a witch-hunt, I just want to bring awareness to this outrageous situation. I try to keep my complaining to a minimal because I love Bungie and I love Destiny as I have over 899+ hours in it. Unfortunately, my experience is being degraded by a certain set of guardians who have been threatening my friend as of a few weeks ago. My friend is one of the many PVP players in the community and he’s awfully good at it. He helps other guardians reach whichever rank they need to for whatever reason (for free mind you, so he’s not one of those). A few weeks back we were in a party with a few friends and the person he was going to help in comp. We played for a bit together then they left for comp. We thought he would come back but at the end of the night, he’s long gone. The next morning, I receive a message from my friend on insta saying how he was ddosed. It was the usual story; my friend did good in this comp game when he joined off a party invite and was booted off-line. I know that normally when you’re dossed there is always a reason even if it is for a stupid one. To be completely transparent, I do know that it was my friend’s fault for joining off the party invite. I do not agree with the trash talking that I know he was doing but I can’t excuse the fact that these guardians see that it’s okay to threaten, stalk and harass another person to keep them from playing Destiny. At this point, you all are probably asking why not report him to Microsoft? What about Bungie, they have a report feature! I did all of that since my friend could not. • I included an Imgur album of this guardian very clearly threatening my friend in the Bungie report although it was from discord instead of directly from Xbox. • I could not report him directly since he did not have a Bungie.net account but I did fill out a contact forum. • He could not report that game that he was dropped from and I couldn’t find the game they played in since the guardian who is threatening my friend has made everything private since then. • I even contacted live Xbox support and told them the situation and then reported him through my account while my friend’s router was broken. I believe that nothing warrants another person seizing control over someone else’s internet and holding it hostage which is what this specific guardian did. At the end, my friend’s router was fried and he had to get a new one. Point being, I took all the necessary steps when my friend could not and I don’t know what else to do. This person is still online and has even taken the liberty of sending his own friends or as I like to call them, ‘goons’ after my friend putting not only him at risk but the people he plays with including me and our mutual friends if we even so much as have a party that we’re all in set to ‘joinable’ by accident. Same goes with the fire team as well. I know that this community is amazing and that we’ve encountered only a bad few out of the bunch. I only want for my friends and I to be able play without feeling like we’re being hunted for god-sake. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I doubt that anything will get done but I just wanted to get the story out instead of feeling helpless as usual with these situations.

  • It is a shame it is so hard to track these idgets down. What they are doing is actually a federal crime... but getting the info to your ISP/FCC to report them properly is the problem. Best thing he/she can do is contact the ISP about it. Going forward, can try turning on the router's DoS protection. It will likely only protect about 10% or so of the bandwidth and will still kill gameplay from the lag, but it may keep things from going completely offline.

    • You are on console you could try a ticket with Xbox to see if there is anything they can do about it.

    •
• I included an Imgur album of this guardian very clearly threatening my friend in the Bungie report although it was from discord instead of directly from Xbox.
Unfortunately, Bungie cannot enforce anything based on the platform messages. That would need to be reported to Microsoft. Your friend should also contact their ISP to rotate their IP address as that may solve part of their issue with being able to connect.
