I’ve been having a heated debate with one of my friends if physics is a math subject or a science subject. He thinks that since you do math in it, it’s a math subject. But I said that math classes are based around certain types of math (i.e. Calculus is based around calculus and so on). Although it does involve math, I believe that Physics is a science subject because it uses math to predict and test ideas about how physical phenomena behave. But once you tell him that it involves math, he just says “so then it’s a math class”

Math just really teaches you how. Science, and by extent, physics is an application of why you learn math.
-
-
It's both
-
Either way it’s cancer
-
You do math in Physical Science, Chemistry, etc. and I’m pretty damn sure those aren’t math subjects.
-
Honestly, it's not science to me unless something physically cool happens. Math is not cool.
-
That’s like saying “Is Poetry a literature subject or an English subject” Math is the language of Science.
-
math and science are like the UK and US. They're allies right now but in the past they've had a few ego wars.
-
Depends on the type of math. Arguably, all physics is math, but not all math is physics.
-
Physics is applied mathematics.
-
It's both, but most schools/colleges categorize it as a science course. The physics classes at my college are all held in the science wing on campus.
-
It's neither. It's physics
-
It's science that requires math to function.
-
I’d say math is mostly theory, science is more about applying the theory.
Was that off?
-
It's a core science. There's math everywhere, your friend isn't to bright 😅

Obligatory: /:•ma_%|$th¥\€*{€em\€|*~!ati_¥~!{+~!|cs A word used ///////// to describe something only intellectuals who are not yourself do in their spare time.

Science and Math are both a form of measurement.
-
Physics is science. Math is just the tool used to study physics. It’s like studying Shakespeare. Words and grammar are the tools used to study Shakespeare.
-
Edited by kellygreen45: 11/6/2019 1:00:42 PMIt’s a science subject. But the foundation of science is math. Edit: The foundation of music is also math....but that doesn't stop it from being an art form. So your friend is just expressing a personal bias based on his love for the subject.
-
It is a science, but science is just math. Except for biology, that's mostly filler content for the people who don't like math
-
Physics is a mathematical science
-
-
Everyone here knows that mathematics is an integral part to nearly every (valid) science, yes?
-
Both.
