My amateur momentum control review

Momentum Control is super fun! I think that overall, the mode is very balanced in the sense that I feel like I could have outplayed most of my deaths if I had landed some shots. Even supers feel balanced, which is something I feel that normal crucible struggles heavily with. As a halo veteran who grew up playing SWAT, I think this game-mode even one up's SWAT. Having Destiny's unique kit system allows for classes to play differently, but still be balanced. For example, I play Hunter (which I believe everyone hates in this mode) and am able to be a devastating force in lanes with invisibility. However, even though my accuracy with a scout rifle allows me to be so strong, the fact that I have no radar and the somewhat effective invisibility buff allows for plenty of counter-play against the strategy that myself and many others have been using in this mode. Overall, I hope you make this game-mode permanent as it gives players a way to feel like their deaths are legitimate and aren't from being one shot by a melee ability or super. I praise you, Bungie, for getting this game-mode right and I look forward to playing this in the future!

  • I just enjoy it so I can farm out weapon quests. Got Revoker done in a few hours and now it's time for Mountain Top. This one is going to suck.

I'm a new player in the Destiny 2. While I managed to kill someone in regular 6v6, it always felt like I'm not good enough for PvP, and obviously not having proper gear for it. Sometimes we were winning, sometimes - losing, but I usually feel like a deadweight for my team, sure, I kill someone, but my overall efficiency is never above 1. I'm a guy, who missed the era of multiplayer shooters like Unreal Tournament or Quake (not even sure about chronological order, but you get the idea). Multiplayer for me was about Bad Company 2, BF3 and BF4, Red Orchestra 2, Rising Storm. Last two were about as fair and realistic shooting gameplay as possible, so it was obviously tactics and positioning, which mattered. BF games were trickier - while I was regular "not so bad" player with automatic weapons, I never was good enough to play with potentially one-shot-kill weapons like sniper rifles in active fashion - because to kill someone you have to hit him into the head, and that is where the problem comes. Ofc, regular 6v6 regime which is definitely rewarding handcanons and various similar hard-hitting stuff, becoming simply deadly in case of headshots, was too much punishing for me. Weapons which I found comfortable, were just "out of meta". And then, yesterday I saw a task to play 4 matches and randomly pick Momentum control, not even reading, what is it about. Ok, round is played, we lost, but I'm puzzled - never before it felt that satisfying in the process and never before I got above 20 kills (let's begin with the fact that never before I got just 20 kills). I check the description of the mode and understand the trick - increased damage (and other modifiers changed, but damage first of all). And that's it, I like that game mode. It is just ideal for me, because low TTK acts like an equaliser for me and more "prepared" in one way or another players - sure, they still would kill me with great 360 no scope headshots, but what's the difference for me with regular 6v6? And difference is that I can just spray them with swarm of bullets in return, not caring about aiming specifically for the head, and IT WORKS! Because I may kill enemy faster than he lands that only and extremely deadly shot. Listening for the stuff, happening all around me matters a lot more - if I come to multiple enemies from the rear, I have pretty good chances to kill them all before they react, not just exchange 1 for 1. I'm hunter main (let's even say, hunter only, I have no idea, how to play this game as multiple characters at all - I have one life after all, and there are only 24 hours in a day), and I go for Arcstrider-Way of the Current, because I like how it works. Know what, Whirlwhind Guard never was so satisfactory to use in regular PVP, I assume, it is what Darth Vader felt in the end of Rogue One - sure, there may be a lot enemies in that corridor, trying to kill you and they have more than enough firepower, assuming any headshot would be deadly, but there is one certain problem - they CAN'T hit you. So, where I lead all this to... I like that mode, I'd like to see it as one of permanently existing options of Crucible. It is not like someone is forcing those, who don't like it, to play it. They have plenty of game modes, that work for them, why can't we have such one for us? Sure, I understand that this mode is a heaven for sniper/scout-rifle campers, and I was understanding it the moment I joined the second game of Momentum control, that time well aware of what was I playing.
