Is Destiny 2 worth playing as a solo player?

Hi, so I'm thinking about coming back to this game but idk. I'm a 'solo' player, so I don't do activities such as the raid because I don't want to talk to people.. Also how much stuff can a solo player do like matchmaking wise? And can solo players still hit max power level like raid players? And one more thing is Destiny 2 time consuming? Like I'm pretty casual and have a life (no offence lol) Sorry if my post was a long read, but thanks anyway <3

  • I am a solo player. Been playing for a few months now. I didn't play Destiny for years because I am not very social. I just joined a clan last week. I wish there were more options for single players, but it is still super fun. Specifically, we need more ways to farm comparable weapons and enhancement shards (the yellow shards). It's almost impossible to fully masterwork multiple weapons as only a single player. It leaves you at a serious pvp disadvantage for a long time. It would take multiple paragraphs to comment on the crucible. That being said, the game is awesome. I hope the devs continue to invest in it. A developer that really cares what their community thinks is rare nowadays, we got real lucky with Destiny 2.

    • My thoughts on the matter are this: As a solo player myself, with a busy 50hr work week, I have to resign myself to not hitting max power. That's fine. It's a game after all. Why not just play it to have fun? There's plenty of stuff to do (feels like "too much" sometimes lol), but all you *need* to do is whatever you enjoy doing.

    • I am a solo player and it is fine but I would suggest postponing coming back at the moment as there is a lot of issues in the game right now. If you want to have a great and fun experience give them time to fix things or you may just get mad.

There's no need to get to max light if you don't want to do the tough activities. You can get to max light if you can solo nightfalls and iron banner. It will probably take all season. You can access most content with matchmaking. Only the toughest content doesn't have matchmaking

    • You can certainly hit the soft cap of 950 quite easily as a solo player. 960 will definitely take more time but it is possible.

      • Yeah, one streamer by the name of datto is out to destroy the solo experience. I hear for solo players he is the final boss of shadowkeep, comes at you with bungie employees trying to force you to abide by his rules...

I play solo, 9-5 job, and I think it’s great at the moment. I didn’t buy shadowkeep but I did fork out 1000 silver for the season pass. Grinding the 100 levels is quite fun and makes doing bounties worth it. I haven’t raided properly since leviathan and don’t think I ever will. The vex offensive is really fun, 6 player match made and requires 0 communication and has great rewards and replay ability. I still play the menagerie trying to find a god roll imperial decree. Again another match-made 6 person activity which requires 0 communication. When I’m spent I just go to the crucible. But then again the above is my experience and suits my situation. I’m 960 with the artefact buff, with a natural power of 949. No raiding.

        • This game is not for you, unless you have a goal on this game then everything you do is meaningless and it will burn you out really fast. Trust me I wouldve stopped playing destiny if I didnt think of ways of grinding for pvp builds

        • The game gets at least 100% better when playing with friends. I was a solo player in d1 and that didnt come anywhere close to the fun im having playing with my buddies in d2.

        • It's very time consuming but fun. I used to be a solo player but having a team is way more effective.

        • As long as you dont missing out on some weapons and armor you will be fine. No nf abve 950 or raid. Not sure about pinnacle gear, you may not be able to hit max light if you dont do nf 950+ or raid.

        • If there's a time to make friends in Destiny, it's now. If you plan on going in and avoding as much human interaction as possible, there's a solo que playlist for comp.

        • You can clearly enjoy Destiny as a solo player and enjoy 85% of the game. The 15% missing are raids and high difficulty nightfalls. I am a solo player now, and did not bought Shadowkeep and i really enjoy the game.

        • I play solo and I have plenty to do. If I do want to raid, I’ll hit up LFG or this app for a team. I hit 962 on my Hunter today and I’m working on my Titan. The solo survival playlist is relatively easy to get to Fabled as well for weapons like the Recluse, Revoker and Luna.

        • You can still hit 960 light without doing tha raid and stuff, you just need to farm powerful engrams in challenges

          • It's entirely your choice I was a d1 guy bought d2at launch me and 99% of my clan dumped destiny. I got the d2 complete collection for 35 bucks, because I missed destiny... Most of my raid team gone I was a single player game was fun up until endgame and no raid team. Having done all the hm raids since d1 I missed doing raids and my friends. I know the answer is make new ones but pple already have thier raid groups and no lie I think kids in destiny 2 are the most scumiest nasty selfish self apionated selfish little c%unts that think there somthing special in a video game that means absolutely nothing in the real world. Destiny. 2 is just a dress your barbie and do the same crap you've done 500 times before money grab. It hasn't moved forward in nearly 6 funking years dude

            • I’d say so, yeah. But the real loot is the friends you make along the way.

              • Leveling much easier than year 1, 750 nightfall has matchmaking, there is a solo competitive crucible playlist. The game can become very time consuming, especially if you try to get a specific thing. Destiny 2's solo experience is probably the best it's ever been but I still consider Destiny 1's solo experience superior.

              • 1. For MM you can do the 920 and 750 nightfall, PvP, gambit, Strikes, Forges, Reckoning, and Menagerie 2. The way power works now is your gear score can go to 950, then pinnacle activities such as 100k nightfall, iron banner, and raids can get you to max 960, however every season now you get an artifact and by each time you level this artifact you gain one light level, so your light level can be high regardless of what you do, so don't worry about level to much. 3. It can be if you want everything and 3 characters all max and all that then you you are going to have to no life it, but if that is most definitely not required. I hope some of this helps.

              • Comp playlists are fantastic and have solo options now. Usually I was always hesitant to jump in as solo but JUST having that solo option helps me feel better about it. And many activities have Matchmaking now. I'd say give it a try and if you ever LFG there are MANY fantastic Guardians that I've added as a friend and play with to this day. I live in New Mexico and I play with people even from the UK from time to time as I met them through game and they're actually competent. Best I can say is it's definitely worth a try if you'd like. Many variables along the way will affect the outcome on how you feel on it though.

Depends. Are you still a solo player if you will use Lfg to group up temporarily without a mic? Because you can do basically everything if you are willing to team up temporarily. Raids are the only thing mics are “necessary” for at the current moment.
