Autos need a buff to damage as well as stability (rant time).

When I say a damage buff, I'm only talking about pve. 450s do tickle damage and the rest kind of take too long to kill anything unless you are way over their light level. Their damage is pathetic despite needing to be absolutely on point just to kill the same enemies as pulses and handcannons, something I think is significantly harder to do when you don't have a near god roll. Their damage, paired with their outrageous recoil makes using them a pain in the ass. I have a few good autos with rolls suitable enough for PvP, but actually obtaining one is incredibly tedious. I think it's stupid that, most other weapon types don't even need you to watch for rolls for them to be comfortably usable...but autos don't get that kind of treatment. If you were to farm a misfit, ether doctor, gnawing hunger, or age-old bond, chances are that you will get them with garbage rolls, ultimately leading to a dismantle. When I got a gnawing hunger with extended barrel, Zen moment, and tactical mag, I was excited to use it...only to see that it's the worst auto i have ever laid my titans fat hands on. With 3 perks to improve general stability, it shook more than hardlight does and a counterbalance mod ACTUALLY did nothing. But the funny thing is, is that if you got another roll for ad clear, it gets even worse. Subsistence, kill clip, flared magwell, and polygonal rifling. Sounds like a solid roll for just killing stuff right? On a handcannon or pulse rifle, that doesn't sound half bad right? Well...you can't even use it. I seriously think that I've seen less spread on shotguns. I will actually post a clip of this piece of garbage in action if you don't believe me. Like, I'd rather use hardlight while firing from the hip. (I'm overexxagerating, but I'm telling you it's terrible). This example I used is just one of many absolutely ridiculous issues autos are forced to deal with. Because for whatever reason, shooting straight in a game that demands precision just isn't allowed for autos. And even if you are precise, you do absolutely nothing the other weapon types can't do, because most other primary weapons can one trigger pull kill trash mobs, and in an autos case it takes that whole trigger pull just to kill a couple at a time per magazine. Their design is so stupid that it makes sense on why next to nobody uses them. It's not because getting a good one is hard, it's that there's next to no good ones to begin with. And of the good ones, they do the LOWEST damage I've ever seen a weapon do. Like, breakneck struggles just to get its damn perk active without flushing a quarter of its magazine down the drain. They can't be used for anything but strikes and even then they still suck. Pc players might not understand how I can talk shit about autos, but it's legitimately terrible without an all god roll. I've got a ether doctor with a stability masterwork, ricochet rounds, and dynamic sway reduction, as well as a counterbalance mod, and there are still terrible rolled 450 rpm pulses that shoot better than this garbage. Like, at this point it's not even funny anymore. Because they are "easy to use" they deserve to shoot like shit? What type of stupid moronic thinking is this? This ridiculous bias against them that bungie seems to have is getting old and is growing tiresome and it HAS TO CHANGE. Because its really getting boring using nothing but handcannons and pulses in pve.

  • Most weapons in this game need a recoil fix.

  • Found the only video I had of the Continental. Sadly I didn't get footage of it getting any kills.

    • All autos need a recoil decrease, IMO. They are point a squeeze (easy mode) so the damage output is fine but keeping on target is very hard and needs a bit of love. SMGs need to have a slight range decrease and autos need a slight range increase to keep them apart because they are essentially the same thing.

      • Since Forsaken launched, I basically haven't used any auto rifles or scout rifles. I tried. But you're right, compared to a good pulse or hand cannon, they just don't compare. I'm not sure the actual DPS difference, but they certainly feel weak and like you're at a disadvantage using them. This is weird because my positive outlook auto in year 1 was so strong in PVE and my mannanan (sp?) Scout was a beast, even in raids. I used them in the Forsaken early campaign and pretty much immediately vaulted them once I got a Go Figure.. lol. I even put the time in to get Oxygen SR3 and Breakneck, played with them a little, felt "meh" to me, even for pinnacle weapons. Just don't feel like they have the stopping power or damage of a good hand cannon or pulse. We should be careful though, Bungie might read this and nerf the good weapon archetypes instead of buffing the weak ones 😭😭😭

I am an auto geek, have been since suros. Slight damage buff, yes....it's called rampage. An auto without it is useless in pve. Less recoil (more stability), not a good idea. Stability is what makes for a good (can't even say great nowadays) pvp auto. You can get one to drop however, but it should not be the norm. Get to the forge, it is possible if rng Jesus is listening. Ringing Nail Rampage Stability masterwork. Counterbalance mod. In crucible it is an excellent support weapon and in pve with rampage active it is useable combined with rally barricade for constant damage. A multiplier for hits without a miss would be my recommendation for pve. Pvp we good IMO, but I wouldn't kick a buff out of bed for sure. Let's shoot for .007 this time.lol

Haven't touched them since they use to dominate early D2. Only AR I still used afterwards was Orimund's Anvil, loved that thing. I'll use it again if they bring it forward, but other than that, for the most part, yeah ARs suck. I always dismantle them and only keep ones that have a nice setup of perks in hopes ARs will get buffed one day.

          • they need a buff in pvp as well because honestly if you use an auto against a 180 hand cannon or a pulse which is the meta right now your most likely going to lose.

            • I'm not sure a damage buff is necessary, but I do think all AR's need a stability increase and an ammo increase across the board. I got a God Roll Halfdan about a month ago that I thought would finally allow me to enjoy AR's in the crucible again. Man was I wrong. So hard to keep on target, especially in a game packed with Hunters that can just insta dodge or Mexican bean jump while 3 tapping you in the face with a handcannon. I've never played on PC, but my understanding is that the recoil on weapons is greatly reduced there to the point of another Meta compared to consoles. AR's getting their stability increased and maybe getting a 20% bump in ammo isn't going to completely rework the Meta, but I think it would increase the amount of weapons capable of being competitive in PvP.

              • Questions Can they buff something in pve and not have it effect PvP? Would people be ok if they started locking certain guns out of pvp? So it can be OP in pve, and not ruin pvp?

                      • I've got a Tigerspite with Outlaw/Killclip and RL MW, it shreads enemies. I've just got the Sweet Business catalyst so I've been using that, it shreds. Breakneck shreds. I suppose if you get a good roll on Hazard it'll do work. Stability buff isn't needed at all, it's down to a combination or recoil reducing perks and skill. I don't even think damage is the issue for me it's stagger. Enemies just ignore bullets fired by ARs so it's quite hard to actually nail an enemy down with it. SMGs fire so fast they cause flinch effortlessly but ARs dont. The high RoF ones do nothing and the low RoF ones don't stagger enemies to kill them quickly enough, it usually leads to a full clip going into one enemy which completely defeats the point of them haha

                        • Out of curiosity, did something happen to AR's in D2? I remember quite vividly there were a few that were used a great deal in the beginning, to great success. Then they just fell off a cliff. Why? Were changes made to AR's or enough to other weapons where AR's were no longer capable of hanging? The 400's in particular were really nice weapons.

                                • They need an enhanced head seeker proc intrinsically, and then they would be a bit more rewarding. Being a simple, forgiving weapon doesnt mean that an expert shouldnt be able to pick it up and make you wish you had one, too.
