AFK Farming in Gambit to unlock Breackneck (+ more).

Main Topic of the Thread: over the past few gambit games i have noticed players being AFK and using various techniques to keep them from getting kicked, this is probably a result of the ridiculous requirement of completing 40 gambit matches in order to unlock breakneck, in my last game i had my whole team AFK Farming. this is obviously a problem and the fix i would implement is having to win 30 rounds (not games) in order to encourage participation and also to make it a bit more of a skill investment rather than the most tedious grind Note: this will likely become a problem with strikes, If not already whilst i'm on the internet bitching about gambit, here are some more problems: the primeval slayer buff from killing envoy's is poorly known (and is now being adressed) but not many people seem to know that killing invaders and blockers whilst the primeval is up also gives this buff revives in gambit are useful to keep your team up, however there is often not a lot of time to pick up a player before they are forcefully respawned, i would say remove the force respawn or increase time where players need to be revived but cannot respawn, also please add incentives to revive teammates such as a bounty, a buff, or letting some motes that were lost be regained if revived the HVT mechanic's are also poorly explained and HVT's are easily missed by players, highlighting the HVT with an affect similar to true sight or putting a yellow variant of the "enemies" symbol (obviously labeled HVT) where the target spawned Gambit Maps in their current state could probably be designed better. I'm not sure how, the maps feel lackluster general poor behaviour and skill of players (not fixable i know) such as; invading whilst the enemies have no motes and at other poor times, mindlessly picking up motes, etc. oh, and a question. ranking up in gambit gives point's for win's and losses, do you get more points the more rounds won or is a loss a loss and also is not getting points for losses after achieving Legend but still grinding points for reset a bug, or feature? i will probably update this thread with further complaints and possible fixes. but for now back to grinding the breakneck (BTW Bungie why no ornament?). Update: whilst the comments are mostly positive, there are a few that don't understand what this is really about, this is not complaining that the quest takes to long, it is more complaining that it is a time investment and not a skill investment, the problem with this is that it is leading to some players using cheap tactics (like putting something on the W key so they keep moving forward whilst staying in game and not getting kicked) so they don't have to be at the game and still get progress on the quest because it only requires participation, ruining the experience for people who actually are playing because they enjoy the mode in addition to the quest. • Do keep in mind that no one wants to play 40 matches of gambit just for an auto rifle that shoots like a doctrine of passing with higher impact.

    • 5 matches a day. 8 days you are done. Seriously? This is the easiest weapon ever to get. My example is for a really lazy casual.

      • I did the weekly Gambit milestone to get a line on how long it would take to do the other steps, and at a guess, I will, as a crappy Gambit player, will finish all of them in something like 12-15 matches, conservatively. (I'm not exactly burning up the multi-kills, but I'm over halfway through the challenging enemies one.) The 40 matches requirement is a bit out of tune to the rest of them. At the pace I am going, I'm going to have over a thousand challenging enemy kills by the time I hit 40 matches.1100 or so enemy kills. Even with my low multi-kill pace I'm going to hit 240 of those. It's not difficult, but 20 is far more in keeping with the numbers you need for the rest of the quest. I mean, four matches a day you get it in 10 days, but I can see why people would afk a few.

        • 4000 would be ridiculous. 40 is nothing. You can easily do them in one day without even being AFK.

I am curious how they are completing the other portions of the quest while afk? Wont they have to play a significant amount of additional games to get the auto kills (multi kills) and yellow bars?

            • So played enough matches last night to get all requirements done barring about 10 auto rifle kills. Turns out that’s about 11 matches so only 29 matches of tedium left. I did note people seem to have got smarter. There were a lot of teams who tried in round one but on losing the first match didn’t get tricked by the catch up mechanic with inevitable 3rd round loss and just threw the second match. This is a mode that the simplest change to make it less tedious would be reduce it to one round.

            •
ruining the experience for people who actually are playing because they enjoy the mode in addition to the quest.
The problem as you can see below is most people don't enjoy the mode. Bungie could fix that by making it fun. But that's not going to be a short term answer. I hate AFK players but after a few Gambit matches with 37 ahead I'm starting to think those AFK players have the right practical solution to being bribed to play an unenjoyable game mode. Either that or figure out the best way to consistently lose 37 matches in two rounds to keep the timing short. Don't worry I'll likely put together an LFG group of like minded people who just want to throw ~40 matches and get it over with. That's only going to be an issue going up against teams running the same strategy. I guess if that happens then one group will have to break from their plan and try to win.

Sometimes people invade at really dumb times because they are going for quest steps on Mal. I was invading any chance I could one night last week going for army of one. Got it done though. Definitely not proud of some of my invasions...some were even without heavy or super. mistakes were made. I'm sorry my poor teammates...

                • if you make wins a requirement, expect to see people bailing on losing matches to start the next potential win sooner.

THAT needs to be addressed. You simply cannot get to the 40 match requirement if you are getting kicked EVERY time you try and play a Gambit match. And before any asinine comments about MY internet, please keep in mind that I can currently play any other activity in the game w/out getting booted. Gambit? Naw. Bungie is just kidding. I am currently on my FOURTH “suspension” because it is MY fault that Bungie is having problems w/THEIR servers. This has honestly eclipsed the level of stupidity I though was capable. Where is the “community manager” to address this issue?

                  • I have the breakneck rifle and during my 40 games I only saw one player on my side who was AFK and that was for half a round maybe less ... The real issue I thought during all of this was Bungies so called “INCREASED” meatball boss spawn rate during full curse week... I only required the ship to complete Dregden title yet I was 34 games into the 40 before I even saw a single instance of it.. I think something is broken there

                    • I have a few issues with Gambit, but the biggest involves something you mentioned. Using strategy would fix a lot of those issues. The only way to really fix that would be a tutorial, maybe a practice arena. But to get people to use it would require some sort of reward for doing it. A lot of players don't know to look at the progress bar for both teams, and that will tell you how many motes the other team is holding, simply because they are solo players and no one has explained the way the match works. Same with killing the Envoys. Unless someone explains it, they don't know it. The result is people running around, invading at the worst time while they are carrying motes, and frustrating the ones who know how to play it. It drives me crazy when the Drifter is yelling that you have enough motes to summon the prime evil and you only need 4, but there are 3 players across the map killing adds and picking up motes.

                    • How do you "fix" the fact that people are lazy and don't want to work for things? The point is that shitty people are shitty people. Lazy people are lazy people. If you make it an investment grind.....they'll take shortcuts. If you make it a skill situation.....they'll cheat. So the only "fix" here is to evolve a better human being..... ...and that's one you'll have to take up with The Designer.

                        • Gambit's biggest flaw is a catch-22. There is no real incentive to win, but if they incentivize winning the way they do in Competitive, no one would play. We are always going to be stuck with a pretty mediocre Gambit mode. Everyone who thought this mode was going to be some kind of breakthrough in gaming was dead-ass wrong. What looked good on paper just didn't translate to practice because Bungie overlooked one crucial element -- their community of players is pretty bad. True story.

                          • The AFK players are few and far between for me. What I do encounter a lot is people leaving though.
ridiculous requirement of completing 40 gambit matches in order to unlock breakneck
This really wasn't a big deal. Does it take a little time? Sure, but this quest was easier than I would have guessed it to be. Besides, the gun is worth it. Picked it up last night and I really like it.

                          • Personally nothing that is quest related to pinnacle weapons should be gated behind games played, games won, or even resets. Since this a gambit topic, I'll say that bungie should've not used the games played but instead used steps like : Deposit 500 motes total Win 25 rounds of gambit Get xXxX amount of kills with xXxX. Those are just some examples. The way it's setup now just promotes all the ill will, cheating, cheeses, recoveries etc. Hopefully next season they put more thought into the steps taken to get these weapons.

                            • to your question about ranking up. you get more points the longer your win streak up until 4. If you keep the 4 win streak you rank up really fast. losses give you a bit I think. not sure about that since I usually never lose. up until the last rank if you loose in the last rank you don't get any points as far as I remember. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

                            • I'm loving this. I don't care one bit about gambit and nearly every player on the random teams I play with don't care. And this give the teams easy wins so everyone wins. If you give a shit about wining join a fireteam but if you're just playing to finish the bounty it's awesome.
