Trials of the Nine is the ugly stepsister of Trials of Osiris

To start, 4v4 PvP across the board is nothing short of an atrocity, especially in the context of Trials of Osiris (ToO). ToO as a 3v3 game mode was a smooth strategic game of push and counter push, rotation and counter rotation. With the addition of a player to each respective team, the game is awkward and chaotic much like the 4v4 mode of another game, Rocket League, which is adequately named “Mayhem”. In addition, the hallmark of Trials of Osiris was that it was the purest form of “my guns against your guns” in a highly competitive arena. However, by making the continuation of ToO, Trials of the Nine, an objective based format, the original nature of the experience which promised glory to the truest shot was tainted. Furthermore, one of my favorite parts of ToO was the intensity surrounding each match created by the realization that your efforts would be fruitless in the event of a loss. However, with implementation of an “everyone gets something” system, the competitive arena which Trials of Osiris was intended to be became a watered down event where everyone gets participation trophies at the end. A simple fix to this issue can be found in yet another game, World of Warcraft, which is arguably one of the best games at keeping ALL of its players, competitive and leisurely alike, happy.( **cough cough** Blizzard send someone downstairs to Bungie and show them how to make a video game) In World of Warcraft raids, there a multiple tiers consisting of LFR (a dumbed down matchmaking version of the raid), Normal, Heroic, and Mythic. This set up allows for casual players to still get the experience of playing and even get gear from the LFR and normal version of the raid while those who wish to truly test their skills enter the heroic and mythic versions which reward gear that is simply cooler looking to display their achievements. A parallel system could easily be implemented into a casual and ranked system for PvP in Destiny 2 and clearly has a direct translation to how the raid system could/should be as well. In conclusion, Trials of Osiris should have never been changed as it was the sole gem of D1 PvP, and the current perverse version of it in D2, Trials of the Nine, should either be rolled back or altered to more closely closely resemble ToO. **I realize some people may not agree with my opinion but no need to get ugly (like Trials of the Nine)

  • I agree. The lighthouse was locked behind a 9 (or 7 if you like) win card. If you wasn’t good enough to run flawless you got no adept weapons or flawless armour, you couldn’t even get to the lighthouse. Now you can win 7 games with 3 losses and pick up at least 5 pieces of gear plus whatever you get from the clan rewards. There’s far too many participation trophy’s in this game. It’s because it was too hard for most people, they moaned constantly on the forums and blamed others or the game for theirs skill level. Bungie probably felt like that had no choice. Every day of every week there was complaints about carries, account recoveries or how hard it was for casuals.
