Is Warlock Mobility the worst in the game? (And, is it deserved?)

I never played the original Destiny (no console), but I have put in a fair amount of time - I have a 299 Warlock (two of them, if you wanna get technical) and I was holding my third character slot to see if I thought 3 Warlocks would be necessary for gear farming... Decided to make my third slot a Hunter. I had had some problems with mobility (we had to specifically leave the middle/bottom rows of orbs in gauntlet for me because there are some gates where if you jump through the top one it spits you right out over a pit and you essentially have no other option but to glide slowly to your death). But I kept thinking to myself "there's no way it's as bad as everyone is complaining about..." My friends warned me over and over "once you try Hunter you aren't going to want to play your Warlock anymore" and I didn't get it - yeah, Warlock glide is awful, but it can't be THAT bad, right? But it absolutely is. The amount of freedom to halt momentum/change directions/gain vertical momentum that Hunters have is ABSURD compared to the super slow glide of Warlocks. I tried out Blink but you can't affect your momentum at all - you just blink the direction that you're going, not to mention that it's gated to Voidwalker (who I personally think is one of the worst subclasses for grouped content, especially the raid). Is there a single good reason that this should be the case? I feel like having a singular class whose mobility is inferior in every way is... questionable. I mean yeah, Hunters definitely seem more agile than Titans, but Titans have Lift so they can AT LEAST gain some vertical height from their movement ability... not so with Warlocks. It really struck me playing through the Arcology part of the story how much better the mobility options are for Hunter than they are for Warlock. The fact that you can die just because you didn't hit space soon enough and lost some/all of your vertical momentum is... silly to me. Now, I understand that Warlocks bring a lot of utility (empowering rift + arc soul is great) to group content, but... Is there a single reason they can't just have Lift instead of this glide? Even speccing all of my gear to mobility I still end up feeling much, MUCH slower than other classes. I shouldn't be forced to use Mida just to have a passable amount of mobility, and I can't seem to find a way to fix the issue other than that. So tl;dr: Do you think Warlocks have the worst mobility in the game? Do you think they deserve it if they do? And lastly, do you think Warlock's utility in group content is worth taking them over another class, even with their inferior mobility?

  • Yeah its definitely practice, I main a Warlock in D1 and 2 with a hunter for comparison. I've perfected the glide. I always run burst glide and it comes down to knowing how to use it. You have to immidiately double tap to get up places or go lenghts and as you fall , feel free to drop fast and do little booster stops to catch yourself. The other mabuever is to jump and as you descend boost to push forward, But the glide has been nerfed in D2

    • You need to practice with the warlock glide. It has better control then lift if used right. It’s all about timing when you cancel you float.

      • I feel like most complaints on the warlock jump are just user error. I had a hunter in D1 and it in no way made me appreciate my warlock less. I’ve never had a problem with the jump. I can clear great distances effortlessly. As far as the directional change mid-jump...I’m pretty sure of which direction I need to go when I commit to a jump, as most are, so this seems unnecessary. Again, sounds like user error and a poor excuse that a majority use to shift blame from what’s essentially a lack of skill.

        • Yes but more of a problem is that the mobility class aka hunters have a micro difference from either other class even though it is and I quote, the mobility class.

        • Using a Titan with Lion Rampant and Catapult Lift literally turns the Gauntlet easy mode. Just sayin'.

        • Blink for Voidwalker and Burst Glide strafing for the rest of the Warlock classes. I would say Titans are the slowest ever since titan skating was gutted.

          • I haven't played a Hunter on D2 yet, but warlock mobility was dreadful in D1. I deleted two warlocks in it, largely due to the mobility, and infrequently played the third (who was allowed to exist because, you know, STORMCALLER).

You missed the glory days of movement. In Destiny 1, glide was substantially faster than sprinting. If it was implemented in D2 right now, it would be faster than any jump besides blink. You could use Focused Burst and "surf" around in the air as a warlock. And although glide was still the slowest jump out of the three in D1, it was by no means debilitatingly sluggish. Plus, in exchange for the slower movement, warlocks had a superior melee that had longer range than Titans or hunters. Now, glide slows you down when you activate it. It's incredibly annoying. Warlocks also lost their longer melee, which wasn't replaced by any other advantages of the sort. By the way, though, voidwalker is a great subclass for the raid if you're soloing an area. Devour works wonders when you're taking heavy fire from a bunch of weak enemies.

Warlocks are the single fastest class in the game with the right equipment. On the topic of glide. Git gud, I play warlock and never die from failed jumps.

          • I guess warlock´s slow glide is made for dawnblade only and now we are here... Jumping with Warlocks is often a suicide mission. It´s so easy to drop dead 20 meters deep. Can´t count how often i had to take an "accident" death message or how often i was unable to reach a certain point in short time. Warlocks have to run a lot to find the only position to climb up or to reach a cliff with lots of failures. Very nice is the attitude to be bounced back from obstacles if your Warlock is one shitty millimeter/inch missing. Warlock mobilty gives me the chance to shout some mad and loud curses.. :D Hunter and even Titan have no problems at all. Both are able to take every shortcut, especially Hunter.

I don't think any class deserves poor mobility. Its a fundamental component to any good game, you spend most of your time moving and jumping that it should be off the table. Should some subclasses have "enhanced mobility", yes but not by making another class intentionally worse. Think of it like Double Jump versus Strafe Jump. I am sure Warlocks would be happy with double jump with Hunters having a variation that allowed them to strafe. Versus having to deal with a glide all the time....

                • What the -blam!-? The only I jump I couldn't use in D1 is the Hunter jump. I mean I main a Warlock so it should make some sort of sense... but... Dude either everyone I was with sucked ass at jumping or I had complete mastery of apparently the worst jump in the game.

                  • I don't have many issues with 1 mobility other than the stupid physics bouncing me off of things completely in the opposite direction I'm trying to go, but that would still happen regardless of my mobility. I make it through the gauntlet every single time. What I am pissed about is the ridiculous recovery time they added to blink. I can't even fire my weapon until I land. It's suicide in PvP. You're just a sitting duck. Can't use it offensively anymore. I also completely disagree with your opinion on the usefulness of voidwalker. It's a fire and forget nuke which is exactly what you want on stationary targets, and all of the bosses in the raid are stationary targets.

                    • Its really just the Warlock jump that is painful. Its so frustratingly crap after staring a Hunter, even though im only level 11 on my latest Hunter I won't be running back to my Warlock anytime soon.

                        • If you use the ever verse set you can get a maxed out mobility of 10. And I main a warlock and using the strafe jump( I think that’s what it is I can check) I feel I go much faster
