Armor Stats & Factions Explanation

Armor Stats There are three primary stats you'll find on your armor: Intellect, Discipline, and Strength. Each has a specific effect on your abilities: Intellect: reduces the cooldown time of your Super Discipline: reduces the cooldown time of your grenade Strength: reduces the cooldown time of your melee special ability Once you reach level 20, you will begin to acquire armor that has a Light value. More Light gives you more damage and armor. Your total Light value across all your armor adds up to give you your levels beyond 20. Factions There are two basic factions (Vanguard and Crucible), and 3 advanced factions (Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, New Monarchy). Each has special gear that you can attain once you have a high enough Ranking, and sufficient Marks (which act as currency). To gain ranking in Vanguard, you can complete Vanguard bounties, Patrol missions, Strikes, Public Events, or turn in materials to a Vanguard quartermaster. All of these methods except for Patrols will also give you Vanguard Marks. It's important to note that you can only gain 100 marks per week, so try to max that out as quickly as possible. Ranks have no weekly limit, and you can even get rewards for each time you rank up with a faction. Crucible works the same way, but you gain marks and rank through Crucible mode, Crucible bounties, or by turning in materials to a Crucible quartermaster. (Note, in PVP you'll get less marks/rank if you lose a match, but still something) With the 3 advanced factions, in order to gain rank, you must wear a Titan Mark, Hunter Cloak, or Warlock Bond that corresponds to the faction. You can purchase the class item you need from the faction representative in the tower. While you equip this item, all Vanguard and Crucible ranks will only be applied to this faction. Which faction should you choose? Well, each faction's armor pieces specialize in two stats: Dead Orbit: DIS/STR (Melee and Grenades) Future War Cult: INT/DIS (Grenades and Super) New Monarchy: INT/STR (Super and Melee) Choose your faction based on your preferred play style. I recommend ranking up Vanguard and Crucible to at least 3 BEFORE choosing a faction to invest your rank into. This way you can access their Legendary armor/weapons earlier. It's important to note that the 3 advanced factions only use Crucible Marks for currency.
