Sam Harris - Islamophobe?
What do you guys think of the article? I'm curious. I've yet to form an opinion properly as I haven't read much of Harris' work, but some of you might have.

1 ReplyThe article made some very valid points, but one thing I disagreed with strongly was the implication that Islam is not uniquely more dangerous than Christianity or Judaism in international politics.

I don't know. But I like how Hitchens shat on all religions equally--including, as is often seen as taboo by American hippies and academic circles--the far eastern religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism.

4 RepliesThere is a HUGE difference between irrational bigotry against a group of people, and justified criticism, disgust, or fear. Nobody would suggest that an aversion to unstable individuals is 'insaneophobia.' Certainly not all people who practice Islam to some degree are to be mistrusted or avoided, but that doesn't change the fact that the religion itself and it's doctrines [i]are[/i] dangerous, ignorant, and/or unethical.

6 RepliesEveryone knows Hitchens shat on ALL religions equally. IDK about Harris though. But there is a very, very serious threat with Islam and International Relations, particularly when it relates to Nuclear Weapons, deterrence, and Mutually Assured Destruction.

2 Replies'Islamophobe'? As in, somebody who fears or hates the influence of Islam? Yes, I'm quite sure Sam Harris would be described by that. I'm not sure why anybody would find it surprising that somebody so closely associated with new atheism would fear or hate religious influence.

What's the question? The accusation is something Sam Harris embraces, correct?

I don't like the author's attempt to implicate new atheism with Harris' view (I've never heard Dawkins or Hitchens advocate racial profiling), but other than that I agree with the article.
