"You are Forerunner!"
Forerunner is a title, not the name of a species. The Forerunners called themselves that because they knew a better successor would come after them. So Chief being a Forerunner means more will come after him to fill his role.

What is the point though. Isn't Chief special with his Geas? Why would Guilty Spark even care at all that John might be replaced? Is John being replaced supposed to have any major relevance/significance in the grand scheme of things, or is his role interchangeable between any capable Spartan?

So if it is a title, then what is the "Forerunners" actual species name? We will probably find out once the saga is over.
-
We don't know. Just an FYI, we don't know the actual species name for any of the Covenant species but the Sangheili. All the other names given to them is either human slang, or a Forerunner/Sangheili name.

Edited by Indominus: 8/20/2014 4:12:06 AMI mentioned the forerunners only, but I acknowledge you for sharing the FYI. So how did names such as Lekgolo and Unngoy for example even developed? Edit: nevermind
-
Those are Sangheili names, and then all their Latin names are Forerunner translations.
-
Yep. realized that before you posted, but I happen to not know that the scientific names is Forerunner.
-
Ah, I see. I always assumed that that was a plot point left by Bungie to imply that humans came from Forerunners (which would explain their favouritism over the Prophets).
-
That's what it was originally for. To reveal that Forerunners and humans were one and the same.
-
So then it's not really foreshadowing, no?
-
Nope. It is.
-
But if it wasn't intentional it's just a coincidence.
-
Well, with the retcon the quote has taken on a new meaning. One supported by Halo 4's Prologue.
-
What retcon?
-
The retcon of Forerunners not being human.
-
No, I meant "when did 343 retcon the whole 'Humans being forerunners' thing?"
-
It was actually Bungie who did that in the very game that was supposed to officially reveal that humans were Forerunners.
-
-
"You are Forerunner! That is, unless you read the Terminals, then you'd realize you aren't."
-
I was never really sure if it was Bungie or 343 that made humans and forerunners seperate, and the Halo 3 PT I did this weekend didn't help... Guessing there was some serious lack of communication in the story department.
-
It was Bungie.
-
Jesus. Halo 3 is just a mess, ain't it?
