I Think it's Time to Start IP Banning Cheaters
I've been seeing an absolute ton of "Thank You" messages lately for reporting cheaters. But nothing annoys me more than to see that [insert cheater name here, hi ToS] keeps appearing on the game, with the same emblems, on the same Guardian class, doing the EXACT SAME CHEAT (Solar Grenade nuke). You know why? Because he's making new accounts for free and it takes at least 2 business days to actually ban someone instead of detecting Solar Grenades bigger than the sun and banning them instantly.
Bans need to start being permanent, and an IP ban would do it. BUT...
Now, I know people love using their VPNs and such to manage their privacy. I'm not even sure if the ToS for this game allows VPNs, but I think it shouldn't as that will continue to allow these cheaters to get away with it forever.
IP bans need to happen. It's clear that the current system isn't working.

Just drop the name and shame policy Let people call out and post videos of cheaters and greifers so the community will punish and isolate them

Bungie doesn’t have to depend on other players reporting and then operations taking care of it. Recognising basic cheating patters should be a core part of anti-cheat software. Player starts with heavy when he/she shouldn’t - suspend for review, not consuming ammo or not taking damage or using skills not part of standard repertoire, ditto. I had someone matterspark and kill on touch, reported and then saw the same player next week even though some streamers posted it on YouTube as well. Obviously even banning cheaters isn’t high on Bungie’s agenda, preventing them from coming back is another level.

2 Replies[quote]and an IP ban would do it.[/quote] Things like CGNAT and Dynamic IPs would mean you're hitting people that weren't doing anything to be banned as well. It's a fast way to get people to refund issuing them with a ban because someone else miles away from them did something on the same broadband provider as them and due to that provider using CGNAT they got a perma ban as well.
