With the air in their control, the invaders were making short work of the guard, any time they ran into a particularly tough spot they simply leveled the building that was giving them trouble. Civilians were largely ignored, which was both a good and bad thing. It was good because the invaders didn't actively target them, and bad because they didn't let the presence of civilians stop their advance.
