How can I get souls fast to level up? I farm forever it seems but one upgrade takes 7000+ souls, should I be using souls for something other than leveling up?

  • As someone said below, giant lord. With covetous silver serpent ring and a couple armor pieces you can net 400,000 per kill.

  • Kill the armor merchant in mejula and wear his armor and leveling will go sooooo fast.

  • Does the armor merchant sell any armor after Alva armor? And are there any other downsides to killing him?

  • Well he does sell more armor with time but you can resurrect him afterwards with some souls so there is no real downside to killing him. This goes with all npcs in scholar pf the first sin and once an npc dies there will be nothing there but travel a few times through the bonfire or do some questing stuff and a grave stone will appear where that npc once was.

  • His armor does give you more souls per kill but I don't recommend killing him early on. After you buy enough souls worth of stuff(I just usually but both armor sets he has and bonfire and buy until he has stock) of items he will start selling boss armor. Not sure but I think if you do kill him his tombstone may appear and you might be able to revive him after some time for souls. To get souls faster just help people with boss fights or farm the Giant Lord with any gear that gives you more souls.

  • It costs me 300,000 to level up lol. There are some well worn farming spots later in the game. In the interest of saving you time, I'd advise you look up "Giant Lord farming" on YouTube, and not worry too much about grinding levels until you get there. At NG+8 (7?) I was getting almost 500,000 a kill. I've got a foolproof way to beat him now, it's just putting in time.

  • Alright, I'll look that up. It would be nice if the enemies didn't permanently die after a few times. Thank you.

  • In Majula, to the right of the sewer where you go to get to Heides tower of flame there is a footpath leading up the hill and around back. At the end of the path is an altar for a covenant called the Covenant of Champions. You can join it from the beginning of the game. Among other things it makes enemy spawning infinite. It does however make the enemies a bit tougher, the upside being that you get more souls for killing them. I went through the game and only farmed each area until the enemies stopped spawning and I ended the game somewhere around 180. At that level I was more than a match for anything the game threw at me (although I'm told the dlcs are harder, I haven't had the pleasure yet). Don't be in too big of a hurry to level up because there are enemies that basically disregard how many stats and toys that you have and will -blam!- you up whether you are level 5 or 500. Learn how to fight well, then all your extra levels will just make sure you can take down your enemies faster.

  • Oh, I didn't know it made spawning infinite, I thought it just made them more difficult. So the game gets harder after each NG+, does it stop at ten? It seems like it would be pretty ridiculous. Also can I leave a covenant for free from the talking cat in Majula, and does it remove the effects of the covenant? Sorry I'm new to all this.

  • I was new a month ago too. It's lots to take in. Yeah I have one bonfire past 7 right now and if you walked in there not knowing what to expect you'd be dead lol, it gets crazy. You CAN swap from cov to cov, but I believe that a penalty can be imposed on you whereby the players from a former cov or a dark spirit will come and try to off you. The priest at the Brightstone Cove Tseldora can absolve you of sin so it's not a big deal, just watch out for it. You can check sin on your character sheet (you might want to fact check the weight of sin, and how to get it, it's never been an issue for me so IDK). All this being said though, people have speed run this game at incredibly low levels so it's more about how you play than what you own. Things that seem tough now will be a walk in the park once you understand that every enemy calls for a slightly different strat. (Top though, most tough enemies are a sucker for a two handed longsword heavy stab, with good stamina you can -blam!- them up REAL good with it. Heide knights and Dragon keepers are pie with this move)

  • FYI the cat in Majula can let you out of your current covenant without a sin penalty.

  • I wasn't sure about that. It seems pointless to even impose a sin penalty if you can just have it absolved for free by an NPC placed in such a highly traveled area of the game, but there you have it I guess...

  • If you want to help get lots of souls, I suggest doing some jolly co-operation by placing your summoning sign down by boss entrances. You get lots of souls and if you are in the sunlight covenant, you can get sunlight medals.

  • Well I recommend finding a weapon you like and start upgrading it . You really don't need to upgrade your armor because as you stated your pretty much gonna replace it anyway. Don't know where your're at in the game but best way to get souls, fight bosses/help others with bosses- true story

  • I like the halberd, I'm not the greatest with it though. I'm using the fire longsword or the heide knight one when the other breaks. I'm not very far in the game... I'm level 70 and I need to go through the huntsmans copse and kill the skeleton lords.

  • No halberd man. DS 1 I was a super fan of the halberds but in ds2 they butchered it moveset and damage. My halberd at 8+ does the same damage as my 1+ craftsman hammer. Those stat #s are bs. The energy consumed just for one enemy is bad. I eventually have up on the halberd because of my craftsman hammer. Same damage except way better on the armored enemies.... Less energy consumed, stuns, and faster attack rate. Go with santieres spear. Much better range and more damage even though stats wise 8+Hal better (halberd stats broken).

You have to hit the enemy with the axe end of the halberd to get 2-3 times the damage. The highest hitting halberd would be the mastodon halberd on a quality build, though dark weapon builds are always more powerful (you're a fgt if u use one).

  • No the first chop does meager damage it's the follow up stab that does double the damage... Still not worth the stamina to execute. At like 40 stamina I will have to use all stamina to kill a turtle but with craftsman hammer it takes 3 hits.. Much faster and only half the energy (yes I am aware of hammers>halberd against armor however even flesh units damage is still the same Yhea I made a dark build recently. You can call it whatever but for someone like me who tanked DS... It's a completely new thing to roll and actually have to run back at times. Plus, chime hammer seems to do well in the sunken city dlc (in there now first time). My trusty craftsman hammer isn't doing well and same for hexes but that hammer 2 hit ko. I'm glad I went in there as a hexer because of those ghost knights... Don't take any phys damage but I can use hexes. Without it I would have never gone as far as I have (haven't finished and yea I know hot the bodies to weaken them but I couldn't find bodies at times)

  • You gotta get titanite shards and souls to level up your weapons and armor, and I highly advise leveling up your equipment and making it a priority to do so

  • I should level up my armor.... But I just replace it afterwards, it seems like a waste in the beginning of the game.
