Nothing is earned in this game it's all RNG. If they had some kind of solo quest that was very difficult and you were guaranteed that reward for the work and skill you put in then I would say you earned it.

Still not really. Sure, you get strange coins. Those are useless in themselves. It's what you buy with them that is useful. And how do you buy things with them? You go to xur. And his stock is RNG. Every single exotic in this game is attained in some way that is connected to RNG.

Yes the exotic bounties I would say are earned although it's still rng to get the bounty in the first place which kind of sucks. I wish you could just pick them up at level 20 but they were harder.

You get most of them for competing weekly strikes, which does require some amount of skill.

I agree. I love when people say "I earned this/that from the nightfall/raid". Really? I did the same raid raid and nightfall and didn't get one. I must not have earned it for doing the same work. It's flawed logic.
