Steam is single-handedly gonna lay the law down for what the people deserve and put it to these greedy gaming corporations!!! Let’s hope its pricing is better than all the competition(it probably will be).

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see Steam shakeup the console space, I'd be even happier to see SteamOS shake up the PC space, but don't count your chickens before they're hatched. We still haven't seen benchmarks; if the new Steam box plays console games better than the consoles do, we'll be in for a wild ride.

Consoles are only cheaper than a PC because manufacturers sell them at a loss expecting people to buy games from their store, and there's a quote from Valve in the LTT video stating that they expected to price it as a PC, not a console.

Edited by Cultmeister: 11/14/2025 10:45:23 AMGiven how competitive the steam deck is I’m sure the steam machine is gonna be good price-wise, but the crux will be what it’s actually competing with. Because I’d be surprised if it’s going after the high-spec PC market, but then would it really be going after the likes of PS6 or whatever the next Xbox is? So maybe the idea is a lower-budget gaming laptop or mini-PC, which would make more sense. As a gaming laptop owner I would happily swap it for a steam machine if it was similar spec-wise. At least when the deck was released it was pretty much the only thing in its category unless you count the Switch. But it really does depend on the price.
