Wear your band merch

The only excuses not to wear it are if it doesn’t fit you anymore or you don’t like it or otherwise find it embarrassing (looking at you Cradle of Filth fans nervously standing in front of the wardrobe when your overly Christian in-laws come to visit) It’s not made to be gathering dust while you hope it becomes a collectors item in a decade or two's time, it’s made to be WORN, sweated through, ripped, misshapen, loved. - Context - Supreme (popular luxury clothing brand) just dropped a colab with the band Melvins and after purchasing a few items (the only supreme items I ever intend to own by the way) I happened to watch a YouTuber deriding it as trash simply because they didn’t know the band and therefore had no idea of its resale value but assumed it to be low. Like, I know that’s the deal with Supreme, but imagine anybody saying that about any other band merch. You don’t buy band merch for the resale value, just how can you miss the point that badly? I happily paid £150 for a bright orange hoodie and will gladly see its resale value go to £5 if I can get it dirty, stained, ripped, worn, etc. I bought a t-shirt for £300 the other year from a different band and I have the same attitude towards it. I mean I don’t wear it to bed or anything and I CARE when it gets dirty, but that’s because it is precious to me as a nice thing, not as an 'investment'.

 • I only ever had one piece of band merch - a Bullet For My Valentine tee-shirt that I wore back in high school. When the sleeves became tattered from wear and tear, I converted it into a tank top. I used that tank top until it had about as many holes as swiss cheese. Wear your band merch, people.
