Good afternoon. My name is Alexander, English is not my native language, I am from a poor country, and we are taught to understand the written text as a priority, and not to make sentences correctly. So sorry for such a text and you can laugh =) I really like Tower Defense games and really liked Onslaught's PvE activity. I know that the Bungie development team is improving this mode, they have a lot of their own thoughts and plans for its development, but I would like to write what would be interesting for me to see in it and maybe it will also be interesting for other players. 1. More freedom of choice for the players. I will write about this in more detail below and this concerns the freedom of choice of players where to place protective devices, whether they want to participate in tests during the passage of the wave, and in general everything related to the formula "player actions X negative consequences = expected reward".
If the game is inconvenient, does not accept something new, or does not allow people to self-actualize, then people will run away to where they will be welcome and where they will get opportunities for development. This is a negative scenario, but almost all games face it. This is not a problem that needs to be solved with prohibitions, it is a challenge that needs to be accepted and worked to fix it.
2. Changes in the accrual of Scrap and the methods of obtaining it. I think it would be more interesting and more variable to divide Scrap into two indicators: a fixed value and a floating value . Fixed value - the total number that you earned for all previous waves, you see it on the screen and it cannot decrease, Floating value - it turns out for one current wave and may vary from various factors. At this point, I wanted to show that the player will know how and for what he will receive the Scrap, he will clearly see the difference and decide for himself whether to participate in the Challenge (more on this below) and how much it will be justified. 3. Challenge during the passage of waves. In addition to fighting monsters during the wave, there are now small events like capturing a point, consistently knocking down three crystals and others, but I am sure that this idea can and should be improved many times. It is necessary to create more interesting, meaningful Challenges that would influence the gameplay during the wave, the behavior of the players, their choice, interaction with each other or opponents... and for this, give a % increase to the production ONLY during this wave of Scrap.
For example, the wave is over and when the timer runs for 20 seconds, 3 selection points appear on the left side of the screen where the wave number and current Scrap are written: Sweeper Bot Decoy is blocked +25% Scrap, the Special Weapon slot is blocked +25% Scrap, the range of Attack Turrets is reduced +15% Scrap. You can come up with at least a hundred such Challenges, randomly give them three pieces and let the players decide for themselves what to choose this time. The player will see what difficulties he may face and what rewards await him. Yes, I understand that such fundamental introductions for only one wave will require a lot of effort from the development team, but this will greatly increase interest, replayability and create a bunch of funny moments for videos on Twitch and YouTube.
4. Players must decide for themselves where to install protective devices. The freedom to choose where and which protective devices to place is very significant. It allows different players and groups to adjust to their playing style and current tasks. I think it is not necessary to explain in detail how important this is and how much the variability of protection, and therefore interest, greatly diversifies. This can be implemented as a hexagonal network on the floor and one of the devices can be located in each cell.
I almost always play for Warlock's support in Cenotaph Mask and teammates often run far ahead to mobs' locations because it's fun, but some of the enemies get to the base and it was great to be able to decide where to install Sweeper Bot Decoy. Now the mode is like how a parent who loves you cooked dinner. Yes, it is delicious, made from good products and it is familiar... but you don't have a choice to change anything about it, so you can't really enjoy it.
5. The choice of the installation location of protective devices should have consequences. If players are given a choice of where to install protective devices, then there should be consequences of their placement. For all devices, the closer to the Advanced Defense Unit (ADU), the more expensive the initial placement and subsequent upgrades should be. This is the last line of defense. If you can't stop the opponents before they get to the base, pay!
You can immediately see how the choice appears: place the protection directly next to (ADA) and not worry that it will not be broken, or install it further away, where the cost will be cheaper and there will be more risks. Different teams of players with different battle strategies will adjust the defense more comfortably to their needs. The difference can be conditional: unchanged, +5 and +10% for the initial installation and subsequent improvements. It doesn't seem like a lot, but there are a lot of these devices in all 50 waves.
To sum up, it would be great to see a mode with extensive customization options for protection, have a wide range of choices for different current situations, see the pros and risks of your choice, think and build defense tactics, and also see next to you not bored random players, but people -blam!- like this mode.
