The problem with Warlock Solar Supers

Look as a Warlock main I love the neutral game of Solar Warlock, they have some of the most enjoyable neutral gameplay out of all the classes I have played, however they have a big problem with their supers in my opinion. The problem, is that you only have one of two supers to choose from, Well of Radiance or Dawnblade and both have their problems. With Dawnblade it's simple, the super is so stupidly weak, slow and squishy to use in PVE, you have a death wish if you use Dawnblade in anything above entry level content. All of Warlock's roaming supers have this problem tbh, they're all terrible in PVE for anything other than add clear, which even then, our guns and neutral abilities easily take care of, at a lower cost. They just do not have much use in the current sandbox with how slow and lacklustre their damage output is, which further explains Well's dominance, which I'm about to get to. The other Solar super, Well of Radiance ah this notorious super, everyone at this point, is aware of how absolutely busted and dominating this ability is, even after previous season's nerfs. The constant unnecessary nerfs to other supers have made this ability an absolute monster, an ability so must have so demanded, that if you aren't running it in anything with a modicum of difficulty in group and raid teams, you are considered to be throwing and making things harder for yourself for no reason. Every single warlock is forced to being a well slave, a boring and uninspired play style, that makes you hate the class you're supposed love. Everyone that has been playing warlock as their main for a while, hates being forced to always pick this super, we have been playing Well for years now and we're sick of it. So what you have in the end is one super that is extremely potent but braindead and boring to play and another that's more active and fun to play but weak and unviable. There is no super that is both powerful and fun to play and that is my point, that is what is so disappointing. Final shape doesn't seem to be changing or fixing this issue either, the nerfs to well aren't going to change a thing, because what we need is not nerfs, but buffs to other supers. Well wouldn't be sticking out like a sore thumb if every other super wasn't so bad in comparison. The same goes for the new super and prismatic, it's not going to change these issues. Prismatic is seemingly only really going to mostly impact our neutral game, which has never been a problem. The new Solar super seemingly has the same problem as Well too. It's yet another boring uninspired Warlock super from Bungie, that doesn't change a damn thing about your playstyle outside ability regen and some heals, it's very boring compared to what Hunter and Titan got, it just "makes you more powerful," is a terrible and dejecting way to go about things. Supers are supposed to be different and offer unique playstyle, abilities and power you cannot get from a gun or neutral game, that is not what we got sadly. One of two things are going to happen, either the new super is going to be OP and completely outshine well as a buffing super and become the new boring mainstay meta or its going be "meh" and Well will still be the only Solar super viable in middle to endgame PVE. Bungie make supers fun and powerful again, not fun OR powerful!

My thoughts exactly. I feel a good way to "fix" Daybreak would be to, first, strip its reliance from Dawn Chorus away and add it as base. Just make Daybreak do more damage and scorch by default so that it is "ok" on its own. It is a foolish idea to believe you should "fix" something with certain options, because it then makes those options mandatory if you want to use that something, stripping away choice. I've thought alot about this. If Bungie still wants Dawn Chorus to be a big Daybreak helmet, then just rework it to something along the lines of "When you cause an ignition, you release a burst of radiant energy, granting cure and radiance to yourself and nearby allies. Causing an ignition with your super also grants restoration." Maybe keep the scorch buffs and melee regen or just remove them and make scorch a little better at base for everyone to enjoy. With these, you will no longer have to build up around making Daybreak "viable" and can actually make more interesting builds instead of just, "I use Daybreak, therefore I have to use Dawn Chorus." I don't think simply upping its damage to be as useful as well would be a good choice, since it would then become too powerful, so I suggest the idea of bringing back the old viking funeral perk from D1, it's essentially already on the seasonal artifact this season. Maybe even have it as a special debuff that stacks with other debuffs (just extra +5% when stacked)? This way, Daybreak can do decent damage as well as offer alright utility for group support. This combined with Dawn Chorus's healing, it essentially offers a nice middle ground of decent dps while also providing healing, radiance, and a weakening debuff. Sounds very nice, but not mandatory nice.

  • I thought people would use the daybreak super with Dawn chorus.

I tell all my groups upfront: I'm not running well, and they deal. I refuse to be shoehorned into a super because people want to be potatoes.
