My Argument for Why Master of Arms Should Be Buffed

I know the argument against it is "because of ease of use." Yes, it is indeed easy to proc, but I want to bring up a few points to simply question if sheer ease of use is a good enough reason for it. 1. 15% is barely anything on a primary. Why would anyone want a perk that does almost nothing? Primary weapons don't do much to tougher adds without alot of hoops to jump through. A tiny amount of damage getting a tiny increase is still not alot of damage. 15% is barely noticeable on a primary. It also offers no other benefits and still needs a hoop to jump through, albeit an easy one. There are many other good options on the gun that do an objectively better job and the amount of extra effort to get is basically negligible. 2. The perk is currently only available on the Recluse. If it were available on other guns, it would definitely warrant its current "overly balanced" power. This is the gun's signature perk, but it's simply outclassed by other, common perks that other weapons have. The Recluse with its unique, signature perk should be a desirable roll. Am I asking it to be restored to its original form? Absolutely not. That was too powerful. Am I asking it to be boosted to a higher percent? Maybe. I still don't see a buff to 20% making it much more desirable, but I suspect it would influence the numbers. I think the best option would be to examine Master of Arms, such as its flavor and what it represents. I would like to propose a new change. The perk is supposed to represent one's prowess with their arsenal, activating on a kill with any weapon they are currently wielding. So what if the bonus(es) granted depends on the type of weapon used? Like, getting a kill with a different primary grants extra range, getting a kill with a special grants extra stability and handling, a kill with a heavy grants extra accuracy and refills a part of the magazine, and then getting kills with the gun that has MoA grants the +15% and refreshes the timer on all the buffs (to a certain limit)? Of course it doesn't have to be this exact example, but just something that makes the player want to be a master of their arms.

  • Almost all the damage perks are either lame or "random" for pretty obvious and possibly justifiable reasons. Whatever happens it would be cool to have more that were truly under the players' control.

  • Honestly if they add the body shot precision scaler back (in pve exclusively) then that'd be enough. Imo that's really what made it stand out originally anyway.

    • I’d actually rather other perks be brought down in power in PvP.. But right now it is underpowered for this sandbox, I’d not mind a slight buff but it should never under any circumstances have body shots do as much damage as crits again.

    • Master of arms should be triggered after 1+2+3+4+5 kills, and they should make it work like nultikillclip being able to reproc

    • Buff idea Kill with one weapon is 15% Kill with two weapon is 25% Kill with three weapons is 40% Numbers could be adjusted of course, but it could be a mix of bait and switch and harmony.

    • As a PvE change only, yes. No additions needed in PvP.

    • Functionally, it does probably need a buff, but the difficulty comes in how it will stack up against other similar perks. I imagine that Harmony was inspired by original Master of Arms - currently, it's 20% damage up (and 15 Handling) for 7 seconds after a kill with another weapon. Same duration as MoA, but wholly reliant on other weapons whereas MoA can self-sustain, so it logically makes sense why it has a lower damage increase. Golden Tricorn is similar in that it is also 15% damage up for 7 seconds after a weapon kill, but scaling up to 50% for 10 seconds when matching abilities are thrown in. As is, MoA sits somewhere between these perks and it would be hard to see it being buffed to surpass them in one regard or another - that said, it only being available on one weapon probably helps it out. I really like the idea of reworking MoA so its effects change depending on which other weapon got a kill beforehand.

    • Just change it to. A kill with any weapon buffs recluse damage by 15% for 10 seconds. A kill with recluse buffs other weapons damage by 15% for 10 seconds. That way it does something unique.

      • I would like to see Master of Arms receive a buff of at least 25%. Bodyshot damage against adds in PVE pales in comparison to the original version’s output. Question is why release weaker versions of Pinnacle weapons? Hammerhead on the other hand gives me some hope that Blast Furnace will also be good. So at least not all the Onslaught guns are weaker versions or their predecessor’s.

      • Yeah you don’t have to go into that much detail. It should be buffed to 20% in PVE.

      • Id say tricorn and deperate measures are just as easy to proc (in PvE) and give higher buffs. Master could easily be a 25% in PvE without it reducing the potency of other damage buffs while also being a string enough buff to be a good option
