Skill is not just about positioning, but also strategy. It’s about knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your loadout, as well as your enemies’ loadouts. It’s about making best use of the many tools available.
It’s also about reaction speed and quick decision making — Destiny is a fast paced game with lots of things happening that you have to account for.
The aim assist might be generous, but there are many ways to make yourself hard to hit and plenty of players who don’t land their shots.
Skill is an important part of Destiny PvP. Anyone who doesn’t believe that should watch a low skill player vs a high skill player — it’s night and day!

I assumed you were talking about matchmaking, but your point appears to hinge on the idea that skill is not an important part of the game. That’s the bit I was responding to.
