The Taken King.... More like The Taken Kontent

Never have I played a game that removed content and put it all behind a paywall. This is a new low in the video game industry, and Activision and Bungie should be ashamed of themselves. I can no longer play the only things I enjoyed in the game, as they were all taken away. I was thinking about buying TTK, but couldn't afford it just yet. So, I figured I would just do weeklies, play control, do some higher level strike playlists, and maybe some Iron Banner when it drops. Well, can't do any of that now. As a result of this under-handed business tactic, I will not be purchasing TTK, as I cannot support developers who treat their customers this way. Now, before your even mention the EULA, know that there are consumer protection laws for some people, that prevent anyone from agreeing to an unfair contract, even if they previously accepted this agreement. And, I believe they are in violation of these LAWS, which the EULA is not. *EDIT: for those interested, I have filed formal complaints with the BBB, as well as the Washington State Attorney General's Office Consumer Protection Division. I guess we will see just how far Bungie is legally allowed to take things, and if they are legally in the wrong. As consumers, it is our right to complain of injustices, regardless of EULA's. Anyone refuting this fact is nothing short of ignorant. Now we will see what the law has to say. *Edit: it's amazing how toxic this community is. It seems there is no camaraderie in this community, and people just resort to personal attacks at the first sign of someone having a different opinion, or a genuine issue with the product. Bungie, in my opinion, made a shitty decision, and showed they don't care for anyone who does not purchase TTK, and all the fanboy's can't see past their blind love for the game. So I pose a question to everyone. Ignoring the EULA, what do you think of the way Bungie has handled this expansion roll-out with regards to those that have not purchased it? Put yourselves in their shoes, and give an honest answer. *Edit: For those that care, the BBB complaint has been processed, and Activision has until October 02, 2015 to respond. Apparently hundreds of people have filed complaints against Activision for various games, with amicable resolutions. There is hope. *Edit: just to clear a misunderstanding. I own the game and the first 2 expansions. I paid over $100 for all that just like everyone else. I don't want anything for free. I just want what I have always had... What everyone always had. *Edit: So, Activision responded to my complaint, and had the following to say:
I understand your frustrations, I have dealt with other cases similar to yours. Unfortunately we are not in a situation to provide refunds or compensation. Unfortunately the only thing I am capable of doing for you is to pass along any feedback you might have. I do not know if this policy will change in the future. If there was more I could do, I would do it with no questions asked. For now if you have any more feedback please feel free to update this case along with your Gamertag/PSN ID. Thank you for your time and have a good day.
They assume that all I want is money. I just want the features back. I already responded to them, and the BBB case. It seems Activision really doesn't care to solve the issue... big surprise there. *Edit: For those that have not seen this. If Bungie is forced to do this, does that not mean their EULA was in violation of these customer's rights? They are forced to right a wrong, and have been given a reasonable window in which to address it. And yes, they are providing storage upgrades. https://www.destinythegame.com/size-requirements *Edit: To all those following this, I have just received a response back from the Attorney General's Office Consumer Protection Division of Washington State. They have reviewed my complaint, and deemed it appropriate to move forward. Note, this is a law office deeming this a valid complaint regarding the Consumer Protection Act. So, if they see this as a valid complaint, what right does anyone else have to label this otherwise? They know the law better than you. *Edit: This may be my final edit. For those interested, it appears you can get a refund on your purchase by sending your disc into Activision, and requesting a refund. As per Bungie's EULA, if you do not agree with the terms therein, you are entitled to a refund. So, any guardians out there that don't agree with what happened, and would like a refund, just send your disc to Activision and request one. One final note, should you do this, Bungie will apparently delete your characters and Destiny account from their servers; you have been warned.

  • It's like a subscription game, if you don't have the latest DLC what your playing is essentially a demo version. When paying for destiny you paid for up the next DLC, then you get a basic version.

  • Filed a complaint? Get a life bruh!!! Lol. Wow if video Games mean that much to you, you have a problem. Besides there is a good reason you cannot do weeklys or nightfalls...
your character light lvl isn't high enough
You are capped at 170 light. You literally cannot damage a 240 light lvl enemy. What's the point in doing an activity that you cannot succeed at. Its like doing vault of glass at lvl 20. And no you shouldn't be allowed to lvl up because it takes the new weapons and armor to do so and you haven't purchased them. You can still do strikes, crucible, VOG, CE, PoE, and the vanilla story. If you don't like it, don't play. But to file a complaint makes you look like the biggest loser.

I respect your point of view. I wonder how will it finish. Besides, is a good game now, it should has been this way from the begining... not after that much money on dlcs... I dont regret buying TTK, we have not enough options right now aside destiny.

      • Most sports games. Multiplayer servers go offline around a year or so after release. Forcing you to either buy the new version or go without playing multiplayer at all. Other games servers completely shut off period. Multiplayer games like Chromehounds (was I the only one that loved that game?) was completely shut down. When you bought destiny, you purchased the right to play it. For as long as bungie and activist on decide. You don't own anything. Online only games have expansions all the time. Lock out content behind the new expansion to encourage users to buy it. Because they are a business. They sell us stuff and we buy it. You don't have to like it and you don't have to buy it. I would say you should educate yourself more about what you are buying or read the conditions set out in the licence agreement before purchasing so you know what to expect. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, just to say do some research about what you're getting into and what's been done with online games in the past. What Destiny has done is absolutely nothing new. Good luck with your fight.

I actually agree tht activision is money milking us and not only tht, they block ppl away from what they have already purchased. And to top it off, bungie rides along because its a good business which brings them tons of dollars. Seriously, I don't know what ppl are doing with destiny tht don't have ttk. There's absolutely NO point whatsoever to play the old content anymore (given the fact tht you've already played through it). Some ppl have said it well "if you wanna play destiny, start when the ttk comes out" n they're right. Because tht is the whole game. Tht is how it should have been. I don't agree with buying a game for 60 n thn 30 dlcs thn 40 another dlc. Just so tht in the end, you realize tht you basically wasted your Christmas money. Ppl tht don't have the dlc are being shamelessly left out. Sure, go play tht 3vs3 classic tht nobody plays. Want trials and iron banner? Sorry cant do tht for you. (Its funny how in classic you can come with your year 2 gear n rip ass).

              • Why can't you play control? Personally it would have been nice if non ttk people could still level although at a much slower pace like in house of wolves but I would also think that even allowing this the people not getting g the new content would dwindle pretty quickly as the repetition would ruin the game

                    • If you want to start a legal suit you have every right to try, but you will not win. The legality of Bungie's EULA is valid. People can only be protected from unfair contracts if the following are present. 1) Incompetency or illiteracy on the part of the contracted. 2) If any information is withheld from the contracted party. 3) If the contract is void due to changes in the contract that the contracted party is unaware of or not given explicit notice of such changes. 4) If there is any present or immediate danger to either party. For online EULA: 5) If the contracted party is not old enough to consent to such agreements, and cannot give legal consent. 6) If the contracted party is not given adequate notice of such agreements or a copy of said agreement is not made readily available. 7) Clear and present danger to security of the contracted party. 8) If the agreement is made while either party is in a state in which the agreement is made without their consent. 9) If the agreement is not updated and given to the contracted party to agree upon expansion of content or update in online services. The point is, is that this has already been decided through other games with similar situations like World of Warcraft and other MMOs. Expansion of content and changing of content is well within the rights of the games corporations. Besides the legality of it, they have more money and much better lawyers.

                      • So you want to be able to get to a level you won't need to be at and have access to maps you didn't pay for with weapons that would be too powerful to fight enemies that are capped at 34/35? You can still do classic crucible and they took none of the raids or PoE away. I fail to see the problem.

                          • This is what all mmo expansions do, this is nothing knew you fucking idiot. Nightfalls and heroic strikes are end game content and move with dlc and expansions. They are features of the game not just part of the original game. It moved up with TDB and HoW so why wouldn't it in TTK. You still have everything you did from y1 except those (and the daily mission). It you don't want to put up the cash for the new content you don't get to do certain things. OP is just an idiot who doesn't grasp expansions or progression. I bet you are one of those "all my y1 stuff is useless wtf bungie this is so stupid I worked so hard for my stuff!!" people. Again, not new to video games.

                              • To directly address your question, I think they handled it pretty well. They gave away the 2.0 update They let you "test run" the new crucible content They've you "test run" the new vangard playlist Then this week those of us that bought TTK have gotten an update to advance our levels further in the game, the new crucible maps, a raid, among other things You still have vangard playlist to play, crucible games to play, raids from expansions past, etc but since you didn't pay for the new content, you didn't get it...(seems simple) You got to test drive the product, for whatever reason you did not buy it. As ive said in another post; If there's no one online to play with you anymore that's not our or bungies problem.
