I know this horse is dead and beat already…

But -blam!- is living expensive these days. I’m out here just trying to survive and paying $1500/month just to have a place to sleep. Cant wait till I can get afford to just get a house and be done with BS apartment renting. Not to mention groceries are expensive as hell too, good thing I’m a skinny -blam!- and don’t eat that much.

  • The Housing Crisis in Canada can almost be entirely laid at the feet of the USA channel: Home and Garden Channel. Why? Shows that encourage people to buy home and relist them without any upgrading, and demand more money from the next buyer. Shows like: Love it, or List it. Flip this House. Fix it or sell it. Etc. Voting just gets you a seat at the table to allow your voice to be heard. It's the very first step towards forcing the government to listen to your suggestions. E-mailing your local government official in a polite tone more or less forces them to reply to you at some point, if they keep ignoring you send them -blam!- with your message. Then they are contractually obligated to respond to you

  • Definitely not a hot take, but still needs to be said. For some dumb reason I chose to live in one of the most expensive cities in the country and it burns all my money away so fast.

        • Houses are great and all cause you own it (well sort of, paying off a mortgage), but unless you get a new build that's made by a notshit company you'll be getting screwed with repair work. Old houses have issues that the previous owner didn't feel like fixing, or that they made worse by trying to fix, or things break while you live there, and all that costs money. If the house is over ten years old you probably expect to put in about $5k in maintenance every year on top of mortgage, insurance, and taxes. Not to dissuade people from buying, but people overlook those costs a lot. I put thousands into my last house and it still needed a few thousand more in work when I sold it. But yeah, it's rough out here. A chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell is over $5. Pizzas are around $15, burgers are pricey too. Cars still cost a lot, phones cost a ton, ain't nothing cheap anymore

        • Yeah from what I’ve heard responsibilities never go away and they actually get worse, which is really bad cause stuff is already so hard.

        • It's like a slap in the face to wake up and see a post from Insane. It's finding a long lost relative or something... But -blam!- all I hear about adulthood sounds so shitty. I'm still not ready for college and I've barely got a year left. What in hell do you adults do?

          • 35 and still bs apartment renting here. I agree it sucks. I feel like I'm throwing away money every month when I could be paying my way down on a mortgage. Homes in my area are upwards to a million smackaroos these days. Still a few years off until I can put down a decent down payment though, what with the student loans debt that I'm going to be paying off until I'm 65(at least Im finally making enough to pay my bills now)- and the looming problems of inflation. The good news is my car should be paid off in about 4-5 months, and it's a Toyota camry that should run until judgment day if I take care of it. But there's always the odd emergency. *inhales*
It's Insane
I'm making more money than I ever have, and I still feel like I'm just a profit pig for men much more wealthy and powerful than I, and my head is just above the water. I have always been one catastrophic accident or job loss away from further financial ruin. But with good choices, I'm learning to balance a budget properly at long last, and im building a cushion of money against ruin slowly while paying my bills and chipping down my debt. Point is it's the same way I felt when I was struggling to pay the flop house to keep them from throwing me out, and the way I felt sleeping in my car when eventually the bed bugs did it anyways. It's hard to see, but Tl;dr: Keep your eyes up, my dude, and don't let the world grind you down, grind back. We're all feeling it who live out here on our own! :)
